He could have done the Bergwijn role as wide forward or played as two with Kane or up top and Kane behind when required. There has been planty of games already he would have played . 9 in EL I think. LC and FA cup plus possibly getting g run outs in the league coming on for Harry. Plus we still have pay load fee for Vinny and his wages.
Edit: Read the lineup wrong.... I like Son going high with Bale and Stevie on the wings. Gives us pace to counter attack in all areas.

He’s had chances. If Son struggles today then maybe he will get a chance in the league too.

But Son has always delivered as a striker. Always. He was playing ahead of Kane this season anyway. Let’s trust in Son tonight and see what happens.
I’ll always trust in Son, not annoyed that he’s playing up top at all. Just think this whole Vinicius saga is completely pointless and I really don’t understand it

I am usually very positive but I don't like this team at all (which also means we probably win). Jose is making some strange decisions.

On paper it’s a better line up that what Jose put out against Liverpool with the exception of Kane being injured.

No Dier or Doherty = double celebration
2nd half wastes of space in Winks and Lamela are not playing either = more celebrations

I would personally had started Vinicius but I can see why Jose has gone with Son through the middle.

Given Aurier’s likely banishing... add Reguilon for Davies and Kane for Bale or Bergwijn and it looks a very solid and attack minded team.

Well, Mourhino went for Vinicius, and he was the only striker/AM who came in last summer.

Might have been nervous about Wilson's injury record too ?

or maybe he wanted to play more than he thought Kane would allow him - so went to barcodes
Should have shown him this

Sourness currently saying what I said on these pages a while ago ... that Bale has not seemed too bothered about being left behind on the bench.
Hopefully tonight he rediscovers what a fab player he is.

Team looks decent on paper.

Not really sure what’s going on with Vinicius but Son has always acquitted himself admirably in Kane’s absence.

Should have enough to get the points here. 💪

Won a penalty vs. Leeds.
Lovely ball over the top for Ndombele's goal for Sheff Utd
Laid off Hojbjerg for the Liverpool goal.

Of course, like you say, stats can be misleading - but people were complaining he wasn't assisting or scoring and he's now doing just that.

But like others around him, I think today is a big game for him. No Kane, so we'll need others to absolutely step up

He’s also gradually getting better with his performances.

We’ve got Moura on one hand who’s over the hill and declining and on the other we have Bergwijn who’s young, clearly talented but lacking confidence. Sooner or later Bergwijn will click back into gear.

Likewise in defence we have Dier (not playing) who’s not a natural defender, he has poor positional awareness, poor concentration and his distribution is woeful. Sanchez has a lot of very good attributes but whether it be due to a lack of confidence or struggling with our more recent style of play he’s at the moment in a poor run of form. However if you compare his attributes in comparison to Dier then Sanchez is the much better player.
