True. Rodon looks like he has the whole skill set to be a top CB but we do need a leader, 3-4 years ago we had peak-Verts. Maybe go back in for Skriniar.
Yeah Rodon looks good but he right now isn't going to take charge of that backline. He's still learning too

I'm all for bringing in a young player but if they are not a leader then you need to bring in someone else too

No it’s not complete but we had a big window, probably the best I can remember at the club, we needed a DM, CB, RB, LB, AM, ST and we got all of them excepting the CB was inexperienced and Jose wanted Skriniar. To top this off Ndombele finally settled and sorted most of his fitness out so that’s 7 players alone compared to prior. This is the backing Poch was wanting but Jose got.

We pay Jose 15m a year because he is supposed to be better than Poch, A man who can make the team a sum of its parts. Yet we play crap football and get average results. We are being blown out of the water right now by Moyes and West Ham who have a far shitter squad.

I can accept we have one obvious weakness our CB’s but there is no excuse for the attacking football when you have what we have. Ok we have some average players in reserves we need to sell, so does it everyone else bar maybe City or Liverpool. The whole thing is excuses, excuses, excuses. Levy for once properly backed a manager, it’s on Jose to deliver.

Of that big window:

- PEH: Class, great signing
- Regulion: Great signing, few injury niggles and Davies is a monumental downgrade there when he plays (which he has a lot this season)
- Doherty: pony
- Bale: On holiday
- Vinicius: Jury still out, has had good games against dross and some poor games. Hasn't shown much in the tougher tests but hasn't been given much time
- Hart: squad filler
- Rodon: Young prospect. Not Skriniar

Of those signings only PEH and Reguilon have had a real impact on the first XI.

The fact that Sanchez, Dier, Sissoko, Winks, Lucas, Lamela, Bergjwin have featured so much this season is the real issue.

We improved two first team positions and marginally improved the squad. It's a step in the right direction but not enough.

Consider also that it's Reggie's first season in a new league and he has missed quite a lot of football.
For much of the season PEH and Ndombele couldn't play in the middle together because the latter wasn't fit enough, we are only just seeing this now.

That meant the likes of Sissoko and Winks have seen far too many minutes.

Jose was backed with shrewd deals and got 7 players in for minimal outlay and that's why the results have been mixed. It's not like we went and dropped 60m on an Ndombele type like we did under Poch.

Ndombele wasn’t even ready under Poch, he is finally now after settling and sorting his fitness . Players like Vinnie if the press are to be believed was Jose’s choice. He was backed, he needs to deliver.

I agree he was backed but the job is only half done.

We couldn't resolve all our issues in one window. (It doesn't help that we did nothing in January either).

So either you continue to back Jose in the belief that he can get the right personnel that can achieve what he's aiming for or you start again and gamble on a new manager to back.

Out: Rose, Aurier, Sanchez, Winks, Vinicius (unless a better price to negotiate?)

Loanees unlikely to return: Foyth, CCV, Gazza.

(Assuming Lavinier dropped from ECL squad).

Tanganga no longer U21, Devine is Association player for ECL
Rodon included in ECL squad non-HG.
Clarke at club 2 years and is now U21 for ECL.

If all the above we can buy 2 non-HG and 1 HG for ECL squad.

Why is it so difficult for people to understand?

We have had a squad that was on the up over the last decade, largely propelled by the fortunate emergence of Harry Kane and then some great work from Poch.

We were on an upward trajectory and this culminated in a CL final.

Since we blew that the wheels have come off. That squad was shot to pieces.

We have tried to breathe new life into it with the signings of Ndombele, GLC and Reguilon and the hire of a "proven winner".

It has not been enough. Poch spoke of the painful rebuild himself, about the nice new furniture you need to put into a new house yet fans still blindly think this squad should be able to get top 4 with their eyes closed.

Wake up! You can argue that Jose isn't working or his football is shit but don't be blind to the fact that the painful rebuild is nowhere near complete.

Any new manager would do very well to get top 4 with this squad as things stand.

City, Liverpool, Chelsea, United and Leicester all have better first XI's than us right now.

Arguably we have more depth than Leicester but that is questionable since we just have a bloated squad of mediocrity.

I have said the squad needs improvement that doesn't mean that Jose is doing a good job.

If you want to try and tell me our squad is worse than West Ham go ahead but anyone with half a brain can see how ridiculous that is,

Tell us how much better the Villa squad that is ahead of us go ahead say that with a straight face.

The idea that we are in 9th because of the squad strength is BS. We are not the 9th worst squad or close to it.

Exclusive - Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have all been hugely impressed by the recent emergence of Schalke striker Matthew Hoppe.

Thrown in at the deep end to try and save a Schalke side who are rooted to the bottom of the Bundesliga, the 19-year-old American has responded with five goals in just eight league starts, earning himself his first professional contract early in February.

Schalke found themselves with debts of close to £175m even before the COVID-19 outbreak crippled football's finances even more, and the belief across Europe is that they could be forced to hold a fire sale this summer to try and stay afloat.

There has also been murmurs of interest in fellow young stars Suat Serdar and Amine Harit, the latter of whom came close to joining Villarreal in the January transfer window.
So we'd have Hoppe and Skipp...

I feel like this guy might be a touch old for the pressing game:
:adegrin2:

If you could read you'll note I never mentioned West Ham or Villa in the list of teams that have a better squad than us.

We should be finishing above them both. Currently we are below them. I don't think we will be come the end of the season.

We were first at one stage of the season. Should Pep have been sacked because City were below Spurs at that moment in time?

Should Klopp be sacked for losing 7-2 to the aforementioned Villa?

I don't think we are the 9th worst squad - that would mean we were in 12th btw.

I think on balance we are the 6th best team/squad in the league. Of course we can overperform and get 4th or 3rd in a given season or underperform and get 7th or 8th.

Sergio Pérez Moya (born 13 October 1986 Puebla, Mexico) is a former Mexican footballer who played for Puebla of Liga MX. He is known as Cherokee.

Best I could do...

Are you comparing Klopp who has got his team to a CL final, a CL win, 2nd in the Prem, a PL win to Jose who took us to 6th last year playing god awful football and now has us in 9th playing an even more unwatchable brand of football?

No Klopp should not be fired and no he has zero relevance to Jose.

We were first very early in the season with a small sample size, 23 games into the season is a much different situation.

Man people bend over backwards trying to find new excuses for how terrible we have been under Jose rather than just looking at the obvious that he is clearly the problem.

Exactly no other manager would be given this, if Poch or Redknapp had just signed 6-7 players then proceeded to play this shit and do sod all apart from the League Cup they would be told to fuck off.

It’s all based on hoping the Jose of Porto/early Chelsea returns somehow.

It's more of a point about judging a team's league position at a moment in time and jumping to conclusions.

You try to put words in my mouth about West Ham and Villa having better squads than us because they happen to be above us right now in the table. So just pointing out your nonsense logic. Positions fluctuate over the course a season.

I have said all along, if at the end of the season we are outside top 4 or top 6 and have no trophies then Jose should go.

The fact remains, whoever is in charge of this rebuild has a lot of work on their hands.

The squad is not at the level that so many on here think it is.

Yes positions fluctuate over the course of the season but the longer the season goes on the less they do and the less amount of outliers you get.

It is also important to look at how we did last season and how we are playing. This is not a half season issue or a result of us having bad luck. Jose has us playing like a 9th place team, both this year and last.

Yes whoever comes in will have work to get us back to where we were at Poch's peak, but they will not be taking over a team with 9th place talent and the inability to play decent football like Jose has us at now.

I can see that people are suggesting and fantasizing of wholesale of changes...
Well... there is a lot to be moved on, but we cannot remove all the old guard at once either, even if they are not up to task.

I think if we manage to terminate loans of Vinicius+Bale and permanently move on Sanchez, Doherty, Sissoko and Moura/Lamela that would already be huge in terms of departures. Sure Winks will never be what most here hoped he would be. But I am still okay having him as 6th option in CM behind Hjojberg, Ndombele, Skipp, Lo Celso and Sarbitzer (or someone else of his class). Pretty much same goes for Dier and Davies as well - doubt they are gonna be starters if we want to progress, but they are homegrown utility options.

I think Winks' homegrown status is pretty much all he has going for him at this point. I don't think it's feasible to keep him here as a 6th choice option because he can go and play at a lower level and we could probably still get a decent fee.

Dier is fine to have as a 3rd/4th choice CB.
Davies 3rd choice LB/ emergency CB cover - fine.
