I was impressed by Mirko Ivanić at Red Star against Milan.

He ran roughshod against the Milan defence. 27 years old so not exactly a rookie but he's played EL football for a while now since he had a spell at Borisov. With how decent West Ham's two recent Czechian players have been it may be worth keeping an eye on him as a budget gamble to get some extra creativity into the team.

But Hugo Lloris isn't really the problem

If we had Man City's backline Lloris wouldn't concede anything.

As I've said on the Lloris thread people are starting to brand him as the issue when in reality he had 1 or 2 bad games and now people are nit picking on everything he does.

That CB pairing is the biggest issue its so clear for me.

We fix that and we improve so much

- We can play higher up the pitch as Jose trusts the CB
- We won't keep making mistakes and hence less goals conceded.
This. 100% this.

We don't need talented multifaceted midfielders?

Au contraire
We don't need them at the moment, the same way we don't need a world class striker when we still have Kane.

We already have Ndombele, GLC and PEH. It is what we are missing that we should be looking to fill, not duplicating what we already have.

We need a defensive leader and a midfield general. Those are our biggest needs at the moment and should be the priorities in the summer.

We need a playmaker who can dictate the tempo of the game. We don't need a box to box midfielder.

We need players in the midfield that can pass the ball and create chances. We need talent all over the field.

Barella playing with Ndombele, GLC and PEH is a massive upgrade over what we currently have.

He is too expensive yes, but we could definitely use him.

Why don't we buy haaland then, he is definitely better than vinicius? Being an upgrade over current player doesn't mean he is what we need.

You don't just pack a bunch of similar midfielders together and think they will be working miracles. There has to be a balance of roles and complement of skills. Lack of such is why madrid's Galactic I failed.

Barella is simply not what we need. Whatever he can offer, GLC can replicate. We haven't had a playmaker since Dembele and that is our biggest need in midfield.

There are better GKs but they are also more expensive. We are not going to have a huge budget and have bigger need, so we need to find the best value for money.

We also need to be buying much younger than Pope. We can't afford to be shopping for GKs that often with Levy in charge.
That's true but there's no need in bringing in a goalkeeper that's bad at this level. He's been poor all season. The club apparently pays people to scout players, would like to see some evidence of that this summer.

For same reason we won’t add Barella because we can’t afford him.

If we add Barella right now we are a much better team, he would start and improve us, there is no question we need him. But we can’t afford him.

If we could buy Haaland and fill out other needs we should 100% buy him.

Need doesn’t stop us from buying either cost does

He wasn't bad last season with Bournemouth. He is serviceable with great potential imo. Even if we upgrade later, he is still young and decent enough as a backup.

As for evidence of our scouting - don't hold you breath

We are still seeing Winks and Sissoko out there most weeks. GLC has played in fits and starts for the last 18 months. PEH has great character but is a flawed footballer. Granted I'd like a footballing 6 first, but I'd still take Barella in and Winks and Sissoko out as a massive upgrade of team/squad.

Isn't the limited budget the reason why we just don't go and buy every available quality player?

if we fill out our needs, (which includes getting a playmaker) and also get Barella, then one or two of Barella, Ndombele and GLC will not get on the pitch. We need a playmaker, we don't need Barella.

Buying Haaland, like buying Barella is not a need. We should address our needs before spending money on wants.

Getting a playmaker will keep winks and Sissoko out more than getting Barella will.

We have Ndombele and PEH. A playmaker will complement what they lack, Barella will not.

That complementary player is what we need.

Ndombele, Barella and GLC easily could all play and even if not being able rotate those 3 between two starting spots would be great. It’s what good teams have good players in reserve.

We need talent in the midfield, we needed guys who can pass the ball, we need guys who can create chances. Barella does all that. He would be amazing to add and fill a big hole in our team.

Not unexpected that you revert to your usual 'put all my favorite players on the pitch' formation.

Add that you don't seem to see the difference between a need and a want, it makes the exchange pointless.

No it’s put talented players on the pitch. I know crazy and you and your boy Jose hate the idea of players that are comfortable on the ball and can actually create goals but successful teams need them.
