It really scares me how the line coming out of the club is that they will spend 0 money (so 0 net spend) and sell to buy.
I'm not gonna rant about the wrong's of this attitude and etc.. But I'm just wondering.

What should we do if we can only buy players with the money we could sell.

Anyone got any good ideas for a transfer plan?
If we can't find buyers for the players we want to get rid of, then we may have to look at cashing in on some of the players we (fans/coaching staff/board) would prefer to keep. There is no easy answer.

Would people be more surprised if Doherty stayed or left in the summer window?

I would be more surprised if he left. I doubt we can find a ton of interest in him and I doubt Levy will cut his loses and sell him for a cut rate price.

It will probably be easier to move Aurier so then they use the excuse of needing to keep Doherty for depth or as the starter.

Unlike last year, this is not good news. I'd prefer it if we got him to sign a new contract.
£10M is not much, he has been our best RB, and I don't see any adequate RB replacements. Maybe Foyth or Tanganga as first choice RBs?

Agreed, he is now a pretty decent player bar the odd error. Not saying we can’t upgrade but we would probably have to spend some good money for that. Aurier is far from our biggest issue in the back line.

Not a big fan to be honest, I don’t see him as the same ability level as Ndombele or Lo Celso, better than Winks yes but we need defenders more.

He did look ok at Ajax but Sanchez looked incredible there, that was just a well drilled team and why having a manager with good coaching and tactics can make players look far better.
instead of always attributing everything to the manager, have you ever considered that playing in a weaker league makes players look better than they would be in a tougher league?

The ones I'd be looking at our

Dele/Winks - English premium and 25 so not bad
Sanchez - Most valuable defender of all our CB'S

Those 3 will raise more significant sums

There's a lot of other deadwood but they won't raise so much

Aurier or Doherty? Six in one hand, half-a-dozen in the other... They're both absolute, completely unmitigated car crashes at defending, and the only reason people are favoring Aurier right now is because they've seen more of Doherty lately.

Wee need money and we need to move guys out, while Aurier has improved he still is not a guy we should look at keeping around. If we can move him we should.

That doesn't mean we need to have Doherty as the full time starter, in fact we should look at moving on from him as well.

People are saying the pandemic is going to fuck the market. I don't know if it will or not. But even without the pandemic, we have been failing to move players on for years now. Is that suddenly going to change?

First question I'd have for you is why any English team should want to buy Winks. Then I'd ask you what price Levy would be likely to ask, regardless of whether we found Spanish or English suitors.

Do you really think Levy would let Dele go for £25m? He loves that kid. Unless PSG come in for him, we could have a very tricky time drumming up any interest in him, and even they would be insane to pay us more than £40m, IMO, which is what I suspect would be Levy's rock-bottom price.

Sanchez? Would you buy him? Like, pay actual money for him?

I am not talking about guys like that. Take 4-5 of your favourite Tottingham players, and ask yourself if you would be prepared to cash in on one or two of them in order to perform some badly-needed reconstructive work. That is what we may have to do.

All of this is not to take the piss out of you. I am just saying maybe we need to temper our expectations in terms of how we are going to raise some money.

A bigger problem is who to replace Aurier as first choice RB?

Lamptey has had injury problems and only experience as a RWB. Aarons is being looked at by Bayern Munich and £30M fee will be beyond our budget.
Maybe Levy will have to dip into my slightly batshit idea a few weeks ago of Lucas Vasquez on a free who is currently Real Madrid RB.

28 years old with a mediocre back ground and pretty mediocre play overall in the Premier League seems like it would be another repeat of Doherty.

If we are going for average in our RB I would at least hope they would be young enough that we could get more than a year or two out of them before needing to replace them, although with Baldock we might need to replace as soon as we buy him.
I thought he was younger.....thanks for the info
