Manager Jose Mourinho

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I do have this weird feeling that he's gonna get till the end of the season. I think because he has the 'League Cup Final' in the bag, it still gives him a chance to 'save' the season. Not that he deserves to be the manager that wins a trophy for us.

My biggest fear is that this carries on into next season, because it will and there will be no point sacking him halfway through next season as we'll be in an even worse position, players another year older and another transfer window for Jose.

Ideally pull the plug now but if not it's gotta be at the end of season.

Crikey: confirmation bias much? Lloris has used the strongest words I’ve seen in a post-match interview for years. They are his words.

People talking about Trippier having problems with the club: everybody missed the interview where he explained it was because Poch wouldn’t confirm if he saw him in his plans the following season?

jesus. This place: we played shit...we have been for years - not months - Y-e-a-r-s...during Poch as well.
Anyone remember how everyone was livid after we lost Walker at the end of WHL and then weren’t so good? Anyone remember when Rose turned shit and we weren’t so good? When Dembele left and we weren’t so good? When Eriksen stopped playing well and we weren’t so good? When Dele’s brother got a job here and we weren’t so good? When Winksoko played in the diamond and we weren’t so good? When everyone blamed Trippier for every goal and then he left and we weren’t so good?

Christ alive. This place. It’s not one person’s fault! It’s players ageing and not buying enough quality replacements. Yes, Jose is a chequebook manager, but that team last night was the same attitude I’ve seen stinking up too many games for the past three years or so. It’s like the start of 19/20 season - remember getting slaughtered by Bayern or did that not happen now?

Let’s not rewrite history: this is the rebuild that happens when players age and managers change.
I don’t have a solution, but I know it’s not scapegoating one person: whole team were awful, as was - in hindsight- Jose’s team choice.
Let's use Dier as an example.

Beginning of the season, everything is rosy. He's getting picked every game. Playing well. New contract.

Then he has some iffy games and rightly gets dropped. He should be playing out of his skin to push his way back in.

Instead, last night he was by far our worst player. Fouling constantly. Panicking. When that first goal went in he went to shit. He was awful. Couldn't control a simple pass.

That is not a player who should be here. Hugo talked about saying the right things to camera and then not backing yourself up. He's a perfect example. Is great in interviews but then plays like that.

Agreed, but there is some rot within this group of players too, that was explicitly clear. He specifically called out players not getting regular time, and have the wrong attitude or lack of work ethic for the club. We could all speculate who he is specifically talking about.

Jose has to go, but this makes me much more worried that the rot goes much deeper than Jose. Poch warned us that a rebuild was needed, he isolated certain players from the team and maybe that was very valid, and now we are seeing a complete crumbling of performances and attitudes.

It is Jose's responsibility to address this and fix it, but to your point he has lost the dressing room.

This is a very good post!

They picked the wrong manager for a rebuild

We needed the Mourinho who first came to England.

The version we have today would have been told to get the fcuk out by the younger Mourinho.

I don't mean that in a disrespectful way but it's the difference between the desire, confidence and ability to deliver.

And the players all know that he is a 3 year turnaround manager so for sone of them it's who cares.

I think he needs to be relinquished of his role but I would be happy to see 3/4 Of the younger players on Sunday and to the end of the season.. Maybe they will show they care.

The biggest change is that the old (young) Mourinho put super human confidence in players, this Mourinho drains confidence like some sort of football vampire.

It’s almost as if they are told they are shit and the opposition are gods and you must bow at their mercy.

Jose wasn't brought in for a 'rebuild' though. He was bought in for short term success with a good group of players which Jose admitted when he took over. He also said they were better players than what he had at Manchester United. The short term plan has clearly not worked.

it’s sad, I knew he wasn’t the right fit but I thought well at least we will get 1-2 trophies before the inevitable collapse. Looks like we won’t get even that
Exactly what i thought. I did think he'd get us top 4 and a league cup but it would end as we're seeing now. I'm pretty shocked at how bad he is. Again given the resources he's the worst Tottenham manager in my lifetime. I thought the argument would be around modest success vs crap boring football. Horrendous appointment.

This can have an update

“Before the season would you be happy with?”

Worst team head to head in the top 10 averaging less than 1PPG.
Worse run in the league than the one that got the last nanager the sack. 12 games 11 points.
26 points behind 1st place (with two games in hand)
(In a season where Jose himself said we could compete for the title. Not compete with West Ham for 5th place).

Going out of the Europa League in the last 16 3-0 after winning the first leg 2-0. When the reality was this was our main chance for CL and the much needed revenue that brings.

I wonder how happy Mr Daniel Levy is this morning???

That is an incorrect assessment. Mourinho bestrode all others and took with him thise who were able to cope.

The Mourinho we have no longer has that capacity for the reasons I stated above.

But all this says as much about his diminishing power as it does about our mentality as a club. No winners here in every sense.

He is repeating what Jose said about life basics etc- who exactly is loris calling out then? 100% aurier but anyone else ? The effort was there just not the quality

The effort was there?! It absolutely wasn’t. There was a point towards the end of normal time where the stats flashed up and the shot count was Zagreb 16 - 4 Tottenham. There was no effort from most of the players, especially from the 7 who were rotated in after Sunday. If we had played with effort we would have scored a goal.

Mourinho should not have made it out of the stadium last night still Spurs manager. The man is useless as he has been for a few years since he lost his assistant manager.

The fact is Levy inflicted Mourinho on the Spurs Fans and he need to fire Mourinho and the retire as chairman. The fact is no matter what is going on behind the scenes Mourinho from day one has done nothing at Spurs.

Levy is the most deluded man in football we had a top manager and he did everything he could to stop that man from succeeding. He took away the support of the head of scouting that he wanted and was happy to work with and replaced him with his man. Then he did not properly back Poch in the transfer window.

Spurs scouting is so bad if we signed Lo Celso and NDombele a season earlier they would of cost a combined 30 or 40 Million. We let Jack Grielesh go over 5 million. Levy also leaves all business until the end of the window over the smallest savings so we end up panicking.

Levy brought the curse which is Mourinho to Spurs so he should follow him out the door.

I think the biggest problem with Mourinho is that he has favorites. He doesn't have the ability to over time create a group that works for each other, the confrontational leadership, the hanging out people after games creates this kind of shit. And this interview with Lloris shows that something is rotten in the changing room. The sooner we get rid of that Neanderthal leader the sooner we can repair what's wrong. Probably we have to ditch some players also.

We saw this in the documentary with Danny Rose he said he was busting a gut in training and was never getting picked then their were other players coasting and still getting picked. Danny Rose was then ostracised by Mourinho for this. Then their is Mourinho himself when in poor form he goes through the players mistakes and tells them they are stupid.

Mourinho ha shot our squad playing within itself.

Danny Rose was playing like shit though. Effort in training is the minimum but it still needs to translate to quality on the pitch. Rose got chances at the start and he was shite.
