It’s true that Brighton have played better than the league table position suggests, but I’d still prefer it if he proved himself at a mid-team club first (ie took Villa to top 7) before stepping up to Spurs.

Potter does fit the criteria I think we should be looking for in a new manager, and I think he's being held back at Brighton as much by the quality of players he has as anything else. Plus, the idea of him convincing Dele to to dinner theatre is too good to be passed up.
