So let's talk hypothetical situations that Levy and the new coach will have to sort for next season.

Situation 1. We get a Conte or a big coach with serious aspirations of winning the league. Kane and Son are onside. But the existing squad is nowhere near good enough. Levy has to cough up the cash to back his shiney new coach. He'll also need to cut his losses to get the shite out of the squad.
Can't see it.

Situation 2. We got a Potter/Parker/Farke type. Kane and Son leave. Lots of money now in the kitty to reinvest.
Can the above coaches find/scout/attract the requisite talent to put us back on course?
Can't see it.

To me, there is no win in this. The outcome both ways is failure.

And it will continue to be failure until ENIC are gone.
What a depressing scenario. Trouble is, you're probably right! :(

And he talks like he's in Lord of the Rings
"So Brendan. First game and its a Winks and Sissoko midfield. What the plan?"

We don’t know if we’ll be competitive. We were barely competitive with an apparent world class coach. Competitive would be financial backing by owner, maybe a DoF and a plan.
Kane seemed to like working with Borinho.
May have been a disaster to us fans but Kane seemed to respect him.
Maybe if some of the other pillocks did we might not be jn this mess

That said, Situation 1 is somewhat less shit than Situation 2

Hitchen will be Levy's fall guy when it all goes wrong.

The man needs a person to deflect blame.

I can see it now, Levy will say he took a step back and allowed a football person to draw up the list. I followed what Hitchen said. Ergo it's Hitchen's fault.
Hey, for those who wanted a Director of Football, eat your heart out. Hitchen's not quite there yet, but clearly amassing power towards that role.

Hart/Gazzaniga
Doherty/Aurier Sanchez Rodon/Foyth Reguilon/Sessegnon
Ndombele PEH
Bergwijn Lo Celso Clarke
Llorente/Moura

Over 300MM spent. What a team!

I think situation 2 is not that bleak. We can find a lot of very good young talent to replace players. They won't necessarily be top 4 contenders next year in that case, but will get you out of your seat. Most clubs in Europe are facing very bad financial situations and this summer will have a lot of forced sales to balance the books (especially in France).

Given that we need to overhaul the squad anyway, if we can take advantage of the situation to stock up on good players while focusing more on getting rid of bad players than getting good prices for them, we could give the new "project" manager a much more positive situation even if Kane or Son were to leave. The other plus side is if you buy kids who didn't go to the Euros, but instead had a proper summer break, you could have a fitness advantage next year over teams whose players did play in the Euros. Especially given the way the schedule gets ruined by the World Cup next year.

I don't know that we're smart enough to do this, but the potential is there to do it, and it would not be a disaster.
