Are players only as good as the numbers of their current season?
Yup. And all players are evaluated on goals scored...even GKs and that's why most are shit. Since goals win games I cannot, for the live of me, figure why you'd evaluate them on anything else. Goals are the most important thing and it's what they show on MOTD. Do they show throw-ins on MOTD?

They built up their brand and on-field success pre-FFP. Once FFP rolled around they were already cashing in and didn't need the owner infusions. Not to say there isn't some hanky panky going on, but not pre-2011 levels.
But again, we have the lowest wages to turnover ratio in the league, and anything related to infrastructure expenditure (ie the stadium) is specifically exempted from FFP.

FFP was not, is not, and will not be a limitation on our spending in anything but our wildest dreams.

Poch was offered Tielemans and Asensio and said no.
They were loan deals. In the case of Tielemans it was 6 months and by the time that waddling bastard got in shape (which he wouldn't have for our CM2) there woul dhave been a month left of the season...same for Coutinho. The kid was barely playing at Monaco...because he wasn't athletic enough.

And Asensio Poch spoke to and about personally since he was on loan at Espanol. He tried to get him more than once. but the final time that is so disingenuously spoken about was a loan with no option to buy. And beyond that Asensio said he was staying at RM (his first year back from loan).

These are the players Conte signed in 2017 at Chelsea

Morata 60 mill
Bakayoko 36 mill
Drinkwater 34 mill
Rudiger 31 mill
Zappacosta 22 mill
Emerson 18 mill
Giroud 15 mill
Barkley 15 mill

231 million, the summer after winning the league with CL on offer and that's the crap they ended up with. No wonder he was sacked 1 year later after finishing 5th.
Morata 60 mill - Kane
Bakayoko 36 mill - Ndombele
Drinkwater 34 mill - Hojberg
Rudiger 31 mill - Sanchez
Zappacosta 22 mill - Doherty
Emerson 18 mill - No similar player at Spurs
Giroud 15 mill - Vinicius but he's leaving
Barkley 15 mill - Lo Celso/Dele

All in all, he has the same type of players here that he would've wanted, which isn't the case either way since Bakayoko was purchased by the board because of his Monaco season more than by Conte. So, don't take everything out of context.

That last GIF has me pissing myself with laughter.

Can't wait for Conte to start pointing at Sissoko who points back at him from the pitch. 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂

He wasn't happy with these signings though, which is part of the reason he fell out with Roman.
For example, he wanted Lukaku over Morata.

I totally agree and mentioned the same in another post. The point I was making was that we have the resources to spend more. We don't need Lewis to chip in, something that could also run us afoul of FFP.

This isn’t limited to us, generally there are only 2/3 clubs a season that win anything. Every other club is trying to balance players, spending and managers. Few rarely get it right
I fully understand that. And in certain ways Levy has achieved alot. However, it should not entirely be at the expense of the football club. We are the 9th richest club in the world, yet for the last 2 seasons, it has been more exciting to watch Villa, Leicester, Wolves...... We have become a business that has football for entertainment and not a FC that has businesses.

We have not given one manager in the last 20 years carte blanche to manage the team. They always have some string attached. It shouldn't work like that. We should be having managers lining up to manage Spurs, Instead most dodge us.
