You are never going to end racism, if you are going to get your panties in a twist every time some moron shits on his keyboard and hits send on an anonymous platform you are going to be permanently stressed, I also wager you are going to have a bleak view of this country which I don't feel is merited.
I don't think drawing so much attention to it does anyone any favours If I'm being honest. I just feel it paints a bleak view of this country and sows further division. I don't think this is a racist country, I mean we definitely were in the past there is no getting around that, and of course a small fringe still are. But that's the point I'm trying to make here, I think its a very small fringe.
The human race will eventually evolve out of such petty prejudices, but for the moment we are simply hard wired to fear change and to fear what may be construed to be different. Same way as eventually we will evolve out of tribalism - though what that will then mean for competitive sports I have no idea as lets be real picking teams is just forming a group identity along tribal lines.
I guess the point I'm trying to make in this ramble is that for the time being there will always be a handful of racist people but lets also please stop pretending this is an exclusively white thing, there are also plenty of racist people of all ethnicities. It's part of the human conditions.
As a half romany gypsy I may be white but I've been on the end of racial abuse myself, I've been called pikey, gypo etc, more times than I care to remember. It's not nice but I just accept some people are fucking morons, I'm not here to change the world and I'm not going to become a victim.
The reason for this ramble is I just find it infuriating when I go online to the BBC, Sky, my MSM feed all I've seen last few days is people focusing on the few idiots who abused the players and the few hooligans who beat up the Italian fans its just all negative all the time. And its wearing me down.
The enduring image I'm going to be left with, is people coming together of all walks of life and all ethnicities singing Sweet Caroline arms in arm like it should be.
This was a great tournament and a great advert for this country.
I'm not going to sweat a handful of knuckle draggers on twatter take that away.
It's just all the time though mate, and its losing its impact.I agree with your general sentiment, I really do but I also think there is nothing wrong with calling out racism and trying to make positive changes through meaningful discussion.
If it works or not is a different matter but I see no real harm in people showing they care, history has shown that the only way to create change is through dialogue.
We have come so far in terms of race relations, we really have, even if people think we haven't, as someone who has experienced it I know for a fact that we have.
However, there is still a long way to go and I don't believe that people speaking up is a negative.
I do agree that seeing everyone together singing of all backgrounds was beautiful to see.
This country is a lot less racist in part because people stood up and said this is not acceptable and educated or influenced a majority to join them, it's a process not binary and this is part of that. You are never going to end racism, if you are going to get your panties in a twist every time some moron shits on his keyboard and hits send on an anonymous platform you are going to be permanently stressed, I also wager you are going to have a bleak view of this country which I don't feel is merited.

Resurgence or uncover, don't think trump /Brexit or Boris has created many racists but emboldened them. It's is undoubtedly true that Brexit plus the rise of Trump has led to a resurgence of racism. That's not the same as saying all Leave voters and Trump supporters are racist, the majority certainly aren't, but there is definitely a link. Of course social media is part of the problem as well.
Plenty of white England players have missed penalties in the past, colour has nothing to do with it.
It's all rather sad.
But it’s not racism it’s disappointment at missing and losingMarcus Rashford mural defaced after missed Euro final penalty
"The word “F***” was scrawled over the huge artwork of the England footballer, painted on the side of a cafe in Copson Street in Withington, south Manchester.
The words “shit” and “bastard” were also graffitied beside the word “Saka”, the 19-year-old player whose final penalty miss gave Italy victory."
So much emotional hijacking going on in this country, its getting unreal.
Spot on mate!Totally agree.
What is confusing is the definition of racism. An unknown perpetrator writing fuck and shit on a Rashford poster was reported as racially aggravated vandalism. Speculative.
If Kane had missed he would have got absolute pelters from all and sundry. Nobody would have questioned whether if it was black England supporters racially abusing him.
A comedian making unfunny (but statements of fact) Tweets that the white players scored but black players missed their pens has led to him being cancelled.
By making every single thing have racial connotations has actually deflected from the real message.
So it doesn't concern you that the whole mural thing has no connection to racism yet thats how the mainstream media are presenting it, and profiting from clickbait? Heard of the boy who cried wolf? You have my answer to your question:
NO! I do not think there has been a massive overreaction.
If anything I want to see an even bigger reaction, I want to see these players murals at the end of every street in the country. I want to see people showing their support, love and solidarity for them.
Is that clear enough for you? Do I need to answer it a third time for you to understand it? Are you left in any doubt how I feel?
Yea but before the word bastard it said black. 'Bastard' is normal abuse, 'Black bastard' are words of a racist. (unless im reading it wrong and it says block bastard, but that doesnt make much sense, unless the graffitier is a serious minecrafter)Marcus Rashford mural defaced after missed Euro final penalty

But what would constitute a racist country? Also no one is arguing this is an exclusively white thing but racism is based on a system of power, and as I’m sure you’re aware the power rests with white people. Not only that but the level of racism is often mapped to the colour of someone’s skin (are you familiar with colourism?) and there is clearly a hierarchy with racism. Hoping that the human race will “evolve” doesn’t help those who are in need now.You are never going to end racism, if you are going to get your panties in a twist every time some moron shits on his keyboard and hits send on an anonymous platform you are going to be permanently stressed, I also wager you are going to have a bleak view of this country which I don't feel is merited.

The “mural thing” is just deflection. The 3 players all got a heap of racially motivated abuse online and deflection tactics aren’t going to change that.So it doesn't concern you that the whole mural thing has no connection to racism yet thats how the mainstream media are presenting it, and profiting from clickbait?
