Agreed - in 20 years taken us from a mid-table near bankrupt club to a top six side with facilities the envy of every other EPL side .... but

The question is can they now push us over that final step and actually win something?

Indeed.

The clear barrier we have, is how much we would need to spend to be consistently better than City, United and Chelsea.

We have to support the club through poor seasons during a rebuild and not demand instant results. The Lloris/Toby/Jan/Eriksen/Dele/Kane/Son team is gone, we need patience whilst we find the next golden boys.

Facilities but not trophies, everybody who finished below 7th can envy Leicester City for that, except Woolwich.

Average league position 1981 -2001 = 8.6 with 5 major trophies achieved when top clubs always fielded their first XI

Average league position 2001- 2021 = 6.5 with 1 poxy league cup 13 years ago.

At least before ENIC we used to try and win stuff mate . Failed mostly but we tried. And we used to at least get our fans excited by actively going after TOP players like Klinsmann, Lineker, Ginola, GAZZA.

To Dare is To Do.

Probably thd most abused motto in football under the property spivs now using our club to fatten their personal wealth.

Disgustingly referring to us as merely Anchor Tennants.

Openly admitting their only involved in football for financial gain.

Using a world wide pandemic as an excuse as though it uniquely affected our club above all others.

There used to be football club over there you know.

There have been events at WHL for decades. It's the best stadium in the country...of course it's going to be multipurpose.

Eubank almost killing Michael Watson in the early 90s is one...

I think he like watching his team from his mega yacht, wouldn't you?

What profit is this exactly?

You realise ENIC is a company. It's not a one man band. It'll exist long after he's gone and it's technically not Lewis himself that owns their shares in THFC, it's ENIC the company.

The whole point of ENIC is to make money. They invest in other businesses, grow that business and make that business make more money to make ENIC more money. That is what they do.

THFC were a cheap a purchase in 2000 for a club with the badge prestige of Spurs. We were dog shit, yes, but still regarded as a pretty bug club. Example is Les Ferdinand and Ginola leaving Newcastle citing Spurs as a bigger club. Newcastle were better than us by quite a way for the 5-6 years prior.
So ENIC come in, before the dawn of the wealthy owner.
From day 1 the ENIC plan is:

Build/improve the stadium. More bums on sears = more money.

Build up the academy. More youth players = less expenditure on players and sales generate money.

Improve the training ground. This helps whatever coach is there to improve the players. Not against this obviously but it's another sign of the plan.

At no point have ENIC ever had the intention of ploughing any liquid cash into the first team to inprove results and push on. That's a heavy gamble with money. It may work. It may not. It may lead to expectation to carry on doing it to maintain it.

It's far better for ENIC that we're doing ok every year getting a PL TV cheque, PL level sponsorship deals and a bit of European football. Don't start winning stuff as then you have to be seen to be ready to push on.
When have we ever been seen to push on?

We're also in a catch 22 now whereby we once bought talent on the cheap and sold it on but fan expectation has changed and it's not accepted as good business. Furthermore, the idea you can buy a Bale for £5m, sell for £80m profit and plough it is to the team again proved to be a bit of a disaster. It didn't move us on because we wasted most of it.

Last point - There is at least some belief certain people contributed to the occurrence of Black Wednesday. These market crashes don't happen by chance or accident. We'll never know if Lewis and his crooked mates were pulling strings at the time to make sure it happened, but the fact he knew it was coming and banked a lot on it suggests he did.

League position didn't matter as much then either. There wasn't 4 "champions league" places to fight for. Winning cups was the main goal.

They will do just enough this window to keep us in and around top 6 and if we punch and others underperform maybe top 4. If you want to judge us as a sustainably run club off the back of a pandemic there’s not much you can say. However if you want to judge ENIC/Tavistock ownership by the fact Lewis current investment in 2 Florida projects is £8bn + and counting. It’s quite clear if Lewis really wanted he could easily have us competing with City and Chelsea. People look at his stated wealth being £5bn that figure is a total nonsense. He’s worth way way more plus huge amounts he can raise in finance as seen by the stadium. The frustration is you’re not talking a billion on players. £200m spent wisely from here would have us right in the mix. But my guess our net this summer will be below £50m. We will never ever be serious consistent contenders under their tenure.

Finally John you've realised we've improved - took a log time before you admitted that

Remember in the 1981-2000 era it was all about wining domestic trophies as there was no top four CL money machine and we were banned from Europe for five years anyway.

Would you rather win the League Cup or finish top 4? Tough call, you can't win the CL if you're not in it.

However much it hurts you to admit it ENIC have taken us from mid-table to regular top six

81-90 average league position 7.4
91-00 average league position 11.0
01-10 average league position 8.0
11-20 average league position 4.5

The last decade with an average league position of 4.5 was the best in our entire history ...

BUT

We do now need to add trophies and titles to that improvement ... 4.5 is good yet it's still not where we want to be.
