Thing is we aren't paying what they want, so what are the "talks" about? Telling them how good a player he is?

We went for Kounde but he wants CL football. I guess Varane would expect the same, plus massive 300k a week wages.
I agree about at least having other targets of comparable quality, as I said earlier its a shame Lacroix and Schuurs are unavailable this summer. So who else is there comparable to Romero and willing to join a non CL club? Should we go for Boateng as a short term fix until Jan or next summer when we can again attempt to sign a Lacroix or Schuurs? I can't think of anyone else tbh
They should, but some people look at them as if you're trying to pay with Monopoly money.Wait, are you serious? They won't take Royal Bank of Scotland notes?
Can you give one example of the Spanish government "helping" Real Madrid, Barcelona or any other team for that matter?I am no Spanish politics expert so maybe they have finally changed, but going off their past actions I will wait to see them actually back it up before believing it.
Do they not get it if this happens with this transfer and we walk who’s to say it won’t happen with the next one & the next one? Just do it nail it and get on with preparing for the season.

In fairness the other Scottish currency is shortbread.
The old, well we tried our best....it stinks of the same old thing with Levy, we spend time on a target who is probably not attainable due to price, and will end up with a shit option (Vestergaard) two weeks after the season as started by which time we have 2 losses and a draw, with Sanchez and Dier at CB...
Ok, so what is proper value for Romero, wise guy? Transfermarkt has his value at €35 million. Not saying that's the correct value, but how do you know it's €60 million and not, say €45 million?Who says that?
You are making stuff up to argue against.
Paying proper value for Romero is not paying whatever ridiculous amount we are quoted.
Like we doubled our money with Sanchez, right? He’s 23 and if as they say an outstanding prospect then even at 60,65 million Tottenham will double their money in 5years
we got hard done there, shouldve got de ligt
No disagreement there. The point is, how do we know we're not getting another Sanchez? No player outside of a select few are a sure thing, especially at that young age. And especially when coming from a weaker league to a stronger one. So we need to be prudent.
Hmmm... pretty sure that's not accurate.I actually just discovered a remarkable bit of trivia.
Bank notes in the UK are not legal tender. They're promissory notes.
Therefore technically anyone in the UK can refuse payment in bank notes, Scottish or otherwise.
winning top serie a defender is decent, could be a one season wonder sure, but id rather get him then the alternatives as i think he has a good futureNo disagreement there. Maybe not, but this is what it says on Wikipedia:
Agree - Davinson and Dier deserve a clean slate I guess. Who knows, after 5/6 years they might finally develop into Baresi and CostacurtaThink Levy has opted for the quantity over quality option; get many mediocre players and hope that some of them click.
Who is prudent? Ben White is £50m, Vestergaard is 29 and terrible, Milenkovic was apparently dreadful last season, Wolfsberg aren't selling Lacroux, Kounde would cost even more and is going to Chelsea. Every signing is a risk but just going for 3rd or 4th choice cheap punts is a sure way of ending up with this seasons Fazio or Stambouli. No disagreement there. Not disputing their status as 'promissory notes', but that doesn't disqualify them from being legal tender.Maybe not, but this is what it says on Wikipedia:
"Scottish banknotes are unusual, first because they are issued by retail banks, not government central banks, and second, because they are technically not legal tender anywhere in the United Kingdom – not even in Scotland,[2][3] where in law no banknotes – even those issued by the Bank of England – are defined as legal tender.[4] Formally, they are classified as promissory notes, and the law requires that the issuing banks hold a sum of Bank of England banknotes or gold equivalent to the total value of notes issued.[5]
The fact that the notes are not defined as legal tender means that they are not withdrawn from circulation in the same way as the Bank of England notes, which cease to be legal tender on a given date. Instead the Scottish banks withdraw old notes from circulation as they are banked. Any notes still in circulation continue to be honoured by banks,[6] but retailers may refuse to accept older notes.[7]"
Bank of England notes are legal tender in England and Wales and are issued in the denominations of £5, £10, £20 and £50. They can always be redeemed at the Bank of England even if discontinued.
There is no obligation on the creditor to accept the tendered payment, but the act of tendering the payment in legal tender discharges the debt.
