I get the notion that he doesn't want to train too hard, which was the problem he had with Poch too but not Jose. IDK what he thinks of the heat in Qatar but I guess it will slow everything down.

He must know his value and rating is sinking which will not be good for his wages in the future.

His Spurs deal alone is worth £60m in wages..... Even if he doesn't give a shit, he's already set for life.

Re: do we need a No 10?

Whether Nuno continues with the current 433 or switches to WBs & 3 CBs, neither formation easily accommodates a genuine 10.

Plus GLC was a 10 at Betis, and it seems we'll be using Bryan Gil as an AM primarily rather than a LW, so it's not like we don't have options.

So, if we stick with 433, with a 6 and two 8s, then GLC & Gil are competing with Dele (& it seems PEH) for the 8 role. If by some miracle (eg cash plus Rodon) we sign Bissouma, then presumably he would play as the 6, with Skipp as the other 6 when needed.

And then there's the hugely creative & massively frustrating enigma who wants out of Spurs & out of Nuno's tactical formations known as Tanguy Ndombele.....

With the 433 system, I'd suggest Nuno is currently playing it with Hojbjerg, Skipp and Dele - the latter as the most advanced CM and when in transition playing as an AM.

I assume Lo Celso (and the enigma Ndombele) would be playing as an 8, and if we bought in nobody more, the question is how long Nuno plays Hojbjerg and Skipp together - both of them more than a tradiional 6 but not as good as a top 8. But if we are nervous about our CB's then that pair really do give our defence first class protection.

Clearly we cannot play Hojbjerg and Skipp in every game (although Hojbjerg played vast majority last season) so I tthink it comes down to partly how attacking/creative we want our central midfield to be as to when Lo Celso and Ndombele replace one of PEH/Skipp as well as how well either play as PEH/Skipp have done very well so far when played together.

Not sure if we want Gil to play as a CME, time will tell

If it's HG issue what about 20m + him for Ward Prowse?

Midfield upgraded without worrying about the HG problem.

I'm not totally sold on Ward Prowse as being a top CM (great on set pieces though). so seems expensive

But I undersand Southampton refuse to sell which is a bit of a buggger.

And we do have several CM's coming through youth far better than Winks - just a question of timing (White, John, Devine)

Hojbjerg has clearly been playing as a #8 this season and is better off for it (also see the WCup).

Aurier should be wanted by a Newcastle/Leeds/Villa type.

he's got a bit to offer. he's not a complete write off. Can get up and down the wing, looks after himself, good shape good fitness, seems a fun guy.

Can't be that hard unless he himself is very fussy.

He is earning 10 mill a year at Spurs, if he sits out his 5 year contract that's 50 mill in the bag and he can walk away for free onto the next mugs. Money ain't no problem for Tongie.

I agree with all that.

I hope Nuno persists with Gil as an AM / 8. What stood out in his mid-week performance, where Sessegnon was providing the width on the left & Gil was clearly playing as an 8, was his ability to receive the ball on the half turn AND to spin in behind for a ball behind the opposition CBs.

Gil clearly has a football brain, quick feet and a burst of acceleration, all of which can be hugely valuable in unlocking packed defences. Once he builds an understanding with our strikers & the likes of GLC, I think he could be a real weapon.

I just don't see him wanting a smaller club in the UK..... Spain/France/Italy perhaps, but not a Newcastle/Palace team.... Just not his vibe.

To say that Romero is the only one that is even merely "decent" is extremely harsh.

Stretching the truth a fair bit there too, mate.....

Well I am sorry then. I suppose that 3 clean sheets have erased all the issues and concerns regarding their ability and they are all flawless CBs.
If only we would have discovered their awesomeness earlier. Maybe we wouldn't have seen seasons of 45 and 47 goals conceded in past two seasons.

Almost 20 goals (!!!) more than 2018/19.

What concerns our midfield then please do tell me
- has Alli-Skipp-Hjojberg trio managed to better defend or better to create and support the attacking side?
- have those players picked based on their ability to create or destroy?

Cause to me it seems clear that we use three players in one line. And those players are picked by their ability to close down and put pressure on opposite team players and to defend.
You can try to take a bold stance and say that all those 3 are being used as attacking midefielders, but considering how Hjojberg was used last year + Skipp in Norwich... then that seems far more streching than saying that we are constantly using 3 CDMs this season.

Aurier (for all his faults) has more goals and assists in the PL than Traore in fewer games. A lot of people seem to think that splashing £40 million on Traore is great business and getting rid of Aurier is a must.
Baffling.
