Ex-Spurs Player Harry Kane

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It's not because he's English. He's got the numbers to back it up but people don't watch his game close enough nor look into context in the way he scores. He's the ultimate flat track bully, which isn't necessarily a bad thing over a course of a season because you end up playing a lot of bad teams. So he will get his goals.

But if you're going up against the top players and teams, Kane is going to struggle because being clever and being at the right place at the right time can only take you so far. Every top player is clever and has quality on and off the ball. You need decent physicality, mobility and pace to truly be a truly world class/elite striker. Unfortunately for us, Kane's injuries have caught up to him.
I think you just proved my point that he is overrated.....

As you can see , he's down there towards the bottom of players who have played a certain amount of games. I'd be interested to see Kane's once he's played enough to be included, I don't think it will look pretty.
Interesting. Thanks for this. But it still looks like Son would be among the highest of Spurs attackers, on a per minute or app basis. Just from the eye test alone, he moves around more than most of our attackers. Still, good stat and interesting to know.

He's a better big game player than Kane, 100%.

I think I've addressed this before (more than once knowing this thread!) but the skillset of certain players is just more suited to high pressure games vs better sides. A guy who is good at getting in behind a high line, which most top sides play, can expose that.

But Kane has disappointed regardless in the big occasions. No doubt about it.

100%.

And that's why any label of being World Class has always fallen short for me.

The best players turn up when it matters most.

Lucas Moura is very high up on there, and I'd imagine Bergwijn would be too. Whatever his other failings he is a trier.

The fact is that certain players will get leeway in this respect, the best goalscorers will conserve their energy for attacking runs. But in certain games (especially big ones) you want everyone to work as a unit and too often in these matches I still see Kane ambling around.

It's also an issue with Lukaku for Chelsea. In the big games last season, even though Werner was crap in front of goal, as a unit they were extremely hard to beat, with no passengers. They were superb at closing the space and pressing from the front. This season in these matches, Lukaku is too often a passenger. Highly mobile, aggressive, fluid attacks provide more of a tactical dilemma for the top sides than a team with a focal point.

Still had one of his dreadful baron spells last season so I'm not sure what your contradiction is.
He still had 7 goal contributions in those 15 PL apps. And he still looked physically alright despite the quality not being there.

Kane has done nothing in 6 apps and what's more concerning is that he looks as if he's lost it, physically. He was already slow and immobile to begin with but now he looks like a 45 year old out there.

In the past, every time Kane would go through a rough patch, there would usually be a penalty or tap in to bail him out to make it seem like he's doing something but unfortunately we haven't drawn a penalty for prince Kane.

So what?

He still scored 17 goals and added 10 assist in the league. Who else was better on the left wing last year?

Plus, he had to adjust with Kane being injured, he himself went though some injuries too

He overachieved.
Wingers are notoriously patchy. I'd be interested to see what would happen if Kane and Son switched positions. I'd imagine Sonny would score 25 goals if he took penalties too while Kane wouldn't crack 10 goals out on the left wing. Kane's career might be over by the end of the season if he tried playing LW.

me when i see Kane starting on Sunday

He's not been playing well but the way people have turned on him is embarrassing.
Considering your perspective, I agree with you on this. You think folks are 'turning on' Harry because he wanted to leave (and we feel betrayed) and now he's not playing well. If that was my understanding of the situation then I'd feel the same way. But that's not my understanding

The problem that you are not seeing is that some folks have been seeing this for a significant period of time and it has nothing to do with him wanting to leave or not playing well NOW. In fact many of us WANTED him to leave and understand that we would be shit irrespective of his transfer situation. As such we knew this shit squad wouldn't be producing chances and thus the dependent striker Harry Kane wouldn't be scoring goals...or as most see it, not playing well.

But no one is 'turning on' Harry. For the most vocal in here perhaps they are just fed up with his presence that they have realized for some time may be detrimental to their club in the long run. This 'turning on' defense/attack is often rolled out to dismiss criticism and also attack a person's loyalty/Spurs purity. I'd like to think of those questioning Harry as the loyal opposition...not turncoats.

The same thing happened with Dele. Some folks knew many (many, many, many, many) years ago that his presence was in fact hurting the team's ambitions. We had to suffer the same questions about our loyalty. But I ask you this, who in fact is more detrimental to the club we support, those that blindly support a player that is in fact hurting our teams play or those that question the player's efforts because they happened to recognize a player was shit too early for the masses/conventional wisdom to catch on?

We are now in an "Eriksen-type situation" with Harry and no one on either side of this debate is winning...because Spurs are losing. But no one is turning on Harry. Some just felt it was in our best interests to move him along and wanted to avoid this ordeal...because we saw this coming much before this summer and it's frustrating that others are still in denial, or worse, incapable of seeing it.

I hope the same energy is kept when Son has his yearly patch of terrible form where he can barely trap a ball and has no influence on games.

Son is very inconsistent as a winger, but he has been very consistent as a striker. His goal ratio as a CF proves how consistent he is as a striker.

Whenever Son has to play Kane's role, he was very consistent.
It's no fluke that Son's purple patch usually shows up whenever Son has to replace kane as a striker.
even last season, Son had best run when Kane played deeper role with Son leading the line.

Amazing that no one batters an eyelid when the latter is pointed out against Son though during poor games.

Difference is that Son still tries though
Up until recently, every player has been allowed to be criticized except Kane. I have harshly criticized Son and other players in the past and I don't remember much backlash from the likes of the usual suspects like Airfixx Airfixx and Beech Beech etc. Most of them actually piled on with the criticism. But when it comes to Kane, they're super defensive as if I've offended their family member. It's quite an amusing phenomena.

100%

But I'll take one step further and say that Kane appears more consistent because of penalties. It plays a huge part in his perceived consistency as a goal scorer.

If Son had taken penalties over Kane last season, Son would have had 21 PL goals vs 19 for Kane.

And he would have had more goals than Kane as a player that was essentially a wingback for half the season under Jose.

Yeah I don’t get it at all, I’ve had people defend Kane in the past and in the same post they’re telling me to get behind the team and support Kane, they’re calling Sissoko or Dier a shit cunt

It seems that support is solely based on talent, or perceived potential for some, so mocking a player for playing to his best ability even though their level isn’t the very highest (Davies, Trippier etc) is ok.

But watching someone plod around the pitch after handing in a transfer request via Skysports and not turning up for training and playing shit deserves our utmost patience, backing and sympathy because he scored against LASK and Brighton last season.

It’s like shooting a race horse, not one of these people will be mollycoddling Kane if he’s still this crap by December.

And instead of finding this interesting it will be met with;
So Vardy has never scored a penalty
