Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Said this back in May, but Conte is probably the only manager that nearly all Spurs fans can agree on.

People that think the squad needs to be gutted completely? Conte will have no qualms about that if it is needed. He's worked with Paratici before and those two are well positioned to do what is necessary. He's only going to work with players he thinks will be committed to winning at Spurs. Whatever decision he makes the supporters will 100% be on board with.

People that think the squad strength is good, just needs a few players and a tactical identify that suite the squad AND Spurs? Conte obviously has had a ton of success in his career and his methods work for a wide variety of players. Look at his Juventus, Chelsea and Milan squads. He's also not a Mourinho clone - his teams are well-drilled, but also prolific in attack. They have a plan regardless of where the ball is on the pitch.

People that think it's really Levy/ENIC that are the problem (which is pretty much everyone)? Well they are still here, but this has to be the weakest and most vulnerable they've been in two decades. Their asset is plummeting in value. Sponsors are not going to want to be associated with a clown car club. Conte should have all the leverage he needs. Spurs only spent about £30m less than Inter during Conte's time there, so there's really no excuse with the debt refinanced and the stadium at full capacity.

Wow a 20 month contract. Doesn't matter who the manager is, when the players realise he is on a short term contract they feel free to give up trying if they don't like his ways.

Probably got a 1 year extension or something. Not sure though with Conte they can just rest, he will have their balls in a vice if they tried that.

my guess is high wages and also levy doesnt want to make it 5 yrs like mourinho, theres option for one year makes sense

Just pure speculation on my part, but I wonder if the terms could be Conte's, i.e. I'll give you a short term to see if you hold up your end of the deal on transfers, etc, otherwise I'm out.
Same here.... WE haven't offered HIM an 18month contract ... He's offered US one!!!

That doesn't make economic sense from Conte's point of view.

Maybe he squeezed a bumper offer out of Levy and Co for the contract, even if it's short term, and he's more than happy to walk away if it doesn't pan out. He seems like the kind of bloke who does things his way.

In any case, it's just a guess on my part. I do wonder why he would accept a caretaker contract if that's really what it is.

Said this yesterday in another thread but seems relevant in here:

What would be the point of Conte?

Conte isn't a "project" coach who'll come in, cheer the place up, work harmoniously with a DOF, buying and developing some reasonably priced ,young, promising players, moulding them over 2/3 years into a proactive, progressive team with a positive identity that we can all suck each other off about.

He's a fuck off everybody, my way or the fucking highway, give me the fucking tools now, get the job done and fuck off quickly type of guy. And we aren't that club. He isn’t going to get the tools now.

Let's stop trying to pretend to be what we aren't. Go back to knowing what we are and recruit a manager that matches our resources and realistic ambitions.

If true, I think this is another miss step by Levy, like not cashing Kane in the summer. He’s trying to do “big club” things , when we need to do “smart club” things.
Well said BC.

And if I get your sentiment you are suggesting we should have gone with a more developmental coach. Someone that perhaps did time with a club's academy team before rising to take over a first team somewhere. Perhaps someone that shown the managerial chops to take his teams into Europe and take big scalps while playing some entertaining football. And bonus points if he's done this good work at more than 1 club. And since we can't get Potter right now that leaves only 1 person that I can think of...

He's got his team in the european places again...

Perhaps not top class, but players will sign for them. Remember Robinho was the first signing for city.
They weren't rooted to the bottom of the table without a win. Like I say, if this was a couple of months back at the start of the season perhaps. I just can't see Conte wanting a relegation on his CV. I don't doubt Newcastle will be back up and well ahead of us within 3 years, but not yet.

Has to be. We haven't got a leg to stand on, while he could wait out until PSG, United or Madrid job. I hope his contract has assurances he will be in control and not just another "head coach" who has to work with Levys shit squad.
