Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If Conte can get us into the top 4 next season, that'll be one of the finest achievements by any manager in the history of football.

We're utterly shit, while there are 4 world class teams in the PL who are spending hundreds of millions to improve every year.

In his post match interview he actually mentions about pushing for the fourth place or those above. He's here to get in the Champions League this season. Let's hope the players can pull their fingers out and help him get there.

One of Conte’s fitness coaches, Gian Piero Ventrone, is notorious in Italian football circles and was nicknamed ‘the Marine’ by Juve’s squad, which included Conte, in the ‘90s.

Ventrone’s approach was summed up by three ominous mottos – ‘Work today to run tomorrow’; ‘Die but finish’; and ‘Victory belongs to the strong’ – and among his techniques was “the bell of shame”, a bell the players had to ring when they could no longer keep going.

Ventrone described the bell as “a stimulus to overcome one’s limits” and he also believed in playing music during drills, including Wagner’s iconic ‘Ride of the Valkyries’ when the exercises became particularly intense. Gianluca Vialli became so enraged with Ventrone, he once locked him in a cupboard and called the police.
My dude.

Liverpool (apparently) have averaged £30m net spend per year since Klopp arrived.....

There's no reason we shouldn't be aiming to compete with them once more..... Especially as they have some major change on the horizon over the next few years.

Also...... Ole is a clown; long may he reign.

Yet West Ham have proved that togetherness, hard work and an structure where everyone knows their job means that it can be done, we're not that far away - it just seems like we are because we are playing well below our standard.

Ole will be gone soon I think, and as long as Liverpool have Salah on form, they will be at another level to us. Trent is also more creative than any of our midfielders, he is a prodigious talent.

I don't get what you are critising.

You say that Conte needs time but here you are complaining 2nd game in (and after only 2 training sessions in).

You complain about motivation but then say that all the players tried.

The words used over and over and over again to describe Conte's football are "patterns", that his teams are meticulously drilled so that they all know what to do in certain situations (other managers that are described as doing this are Poch, Klopp, Pep to name just 3 well known to us). These patterns were in an embryonic phase vs Everton, they were basic but they were there in abundance with WB's pushed up high with Davies (or Skipp) given instruction to underlap on the left, attempting to draw Everton towards their right flank (our left), which leaves our right flank (Emerson) open and with space. This also opens up crossing chances for Reggie or switch play to Emerson or playback or around the corner to the underlapped Skipp or Davies for them to play that switch out to Emerson.

Another pattern was for Kane to drop into half-space (left) to feed Emerson, Son, Lucas, or PEH with Verticle transitions from Midfield.

All of this was attempted yesterday, the final pass didn't work because they've not had time to get the timing of this right e.g Reggie crosses too early or he might have crossed just as Conte wanted but it was Kane, Son, Lucas, Emerson not starting their runs early enough. the result is the cross doesn't find a Spurs shirt.

Another way to look at this is De Bruyne for City will hit numerous crosses into the back post every single game, he doesn't even look up because the pattern is drilled for player 'x' to make that run to the back post as soon as he receives the ball, they know it's coming. It looks like a shit ball in if nobody makes that run to the back post though.

In time these moves should be automatic as everyone in sync with each other.

But as you state. This takes time. Until then there really isn't much to say, other than recognising that these patterns are being attempted.

Just following on from this above.............

I disagree with this guys description of "this is very, very good. No, it wasn't but the green shoots were all there on show. The movements were all made by the players, some will say the executions was poor, that might be the case but I'd probably argue that's largely down to the timing of the pass and the run (which is the hard bit to get right, at the moment the players would be consciously thinking as opposed to them unconsciously thinking, it's not 2nd nature. Like when you learn how to drive, there's a thought process going on for every element, changing gear, braking, acceleration turning whatever, every thought makes the end process look forced and clunky).

Fair point, I trust Paratici.
He is slightly hamstrung by our HG issue now though, we have to sell any foreign player before we buy.

Dier, Sanchez, (debatably) Gio & Ndombele, Berg, Lucas, Giollini + Rodon, Davies, Doherty are all expendable/easily upgraded..... He might even decide he doesn't fancy Reggie or PEH.

Hard to see him not putting a few of them on the out-list between now & the summer.... A couple of young HGs to supplement the exit of Dele & Winks and we're good to look forward.

Seems crazy to see things as so hopeless.... We just picked up a WC manager... So long as we recruit well, we should make big strides.
