This is good news. I said before that I didn’t think he was saying he wanted more to spend the other week. He meant money has been spent not always wisely and the results have not really justified the spending. He needs to build first a team/ squad with an identity and style of play then start buying players to fit it. Rather than just spend loads of mo et but players and then build a team. Build from the ground up so that we have some structure and foundations to then go and improve on that with better quality players. Bit like Leicester do they have style of play now which everyone knows their role. Players are purchased then to fit that style and ethos.

Big difference between Conte and Poch is that Conte understands squad maintenance and the value of squad players.

I think people misread Poch's "it's hard to upgrade" comment. And I agree with him when he made the comment. It would have been "hard" to upgrade the then Spurs squad, it would have just taken Levy to loosen the purse strings. That made everything much, much harder.

I don't think any one miss understood anything.
Poch was right when he said, with the money available, it would have been hard to upgrade the team, IE the 11. Our problem was and always was, that the backups were average. Some of those backups are now in the 11 more often than not too.
Even then, good scouting could probably have found some fairly priced first 11 contenders.

Conte won't be looking at our performance against Mura with the 2nd string and be thinking "I can make do with this lot" because they're shite.

Conte hasn't bitched about "under-investment"...... He pointed out that the strength of the squad doesn't match the amount we've forked out which is spot on

I don't recall Nuno doing so either tbh.

Significant as in number of players as opposed to significant total spend. Only Reg was a material fee, the others were pretty much cut price due to contracts expiring or loans
