Ex-Spurs Player Harry Kane

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He's not won Golden Boots yet. Granted he's only 21. But Kane has shown he can do it season after season after season. As of yet, Vlahovic obviously hasn't.

And Serie A is no comparison these days to the Premier League. It's an average league. Give him the rest of the season to adapt and Tammy Abraham will soon be scoring 20+ goals a season for Roma.
“Purely from a physical/technical perspective”

He’s never played in the PL so you can’t knock him for that. Can only speak to his physical and technical attributes. He does everything very well and physically/athletically much better than Kane

Maybe the reason Conte walked away from us in the summer was because Levy refused to sell Kane.
IDK. I've heard it said that Harry is quite the "value player" and that any manager would be happy to have him. As my friend Igula Igula says "those tapins ain't gonna score themselves...eh". So maybe they're right.

Bale and Son would have done the heavy lifting and Lucas would have had a more prominent role.

Son and Bale were significantly more clinical than Kane and I'd rather have had them taking the shots than Mr 13% goal conversion rate.

Bale and Son both had +5 goals above xG and 29% and 25% goal conversion rates respectively. Compare this with Kane who had 0 goals above xG and a 13% goal conversion rate. It's pathetic compared to Bale and Son.
But bale only scored against teams outside top 6 so doesnt count

And seeing as you always like to bring up Harry's goals, who they are against, I wonder what you make of Vlahovic's last two hat-tricks being against the mighty Benevento and Spezia? Basically two teams that wouldn't get out of the English Championship.

In other news, Dele is better than Messi because Messi scored against Osasuna.

And Kane is a better option than Haaland I suppose? Because apparently Brighton and West Brom are elite and would win Serie A and the Bundesliga

Why did Conte walk away in the summer? The transfer budget, right?

Conte: "This squad is terrible, Daniel. I need at least £200m to knock it into shape. What's in the pot?"

Levy: "Maybe £30m. Other than that, we have to sell to buy."

Conte: "Right. Let's sell Harry Kane. Then we can start to build a better team."

Levy: "No."

Conte: "So there's basically no transfer budget. Goodbye."

Six months later.

Levy: "Antonio, I've had some time to think."

You think maybe Conte wanted to accelerate the cycle last summer? Remember he has only come through the door and has already told us that the level of this squad is not good.

Constant adulation from Conte over Kane

Makes me laugh how generally clueless some of our 'fans' are who constantly knock him and think that Conte would be happy to sell him.

Why is it constant though?
If Kane wasn’t playing shit, he wouldn’t need to keep trying to convince everyone he’s got his back.

It’s a bit like Wengers “I didn’t zee it”……

Notice how he only mentions that Kane looks good in training. You actually take these sympathy quotes as proof that Conte won’t sign a striker?

Poor you

Wait?
You are shocked by Kane’s poor shot to goal ratio or impressed by Sons?

One thing a lot of our fans blissfully hop over is that for every time someone criticises Kane and compares him to Son, immediately people’s first reaction is to play down Son rather than laud him.

Why is that? Why aren’t you just impressed by Sons statistic, rather than shocked someone dared to make the comparison?

You'd hope it's a sales pitch, wouldn't you?

Good points you make but surely he would have known DL was not interested in selling Kane, no? Did our flirtation with Conte come before or after Harry's public declaration in May? And what about before or after any Spurs' statement regarding Harry's statement in May? Just trying to see how many legs this possible explanation has.

But if you look at strikers Conte has had recently in Lukaku and Costa perhaps there might be a tactical basis for your point. Those strikers have a little more physicality than does our Harry. I don't know who he had at Juve. Was it Llorente and Moratta? Or was that early Allegri?

Don't know. It's very hard to know exactly what happened last summer in relation to Kane.

We kept him, which meant there was basically no transfer budget. This is Conte we're talking about, right?

“You can’t go to a restaurant for 100 euros if you only have 10 euros in your pocket, can you?”

Kane's interview came out on May 21.

Talks with Conte broke down on June 4, it seems.

Conte, 51, had reservations about the club’s vision and strategy to rebuild the squad when set against the money that would be available to the two clubs from Manchester, Liverpool and Chelsea, the four of whom are in the Champions League next season.

He also felt the Tottenham players are inferior in technical ability to those sides and was worried about the strength of Harry Kane’s desire to leave. Conte’s position is that he always wants a chance of winning a trophy if he is to take charge of a club. He has won five titles since 2012 with Juventus, Chelsea and, this season, Inter Milan.

Talks did not break down in the summer over personal terms. The reservations were about how much money could be raised through sales, particularly in a market impacted by COVID-19. The future of Harry Kane was still uncertain then, even though Tottenham were determined not to sell him to Manchester City.

Lends credence to your take as a possible explanation. Is this around the same time as our Vlahovic links? Wish I'd seen some of him so I could compare him to Conte's previous strikers. I know he can run, so there that.

Were they that we didn't have any? That seems about right. Nice catch, Antonio.

Welp, I just think Antonio is starting off on the wrong foot here. We have players of exceptional technical ability. He needs to come on TFC and learn a thing or two from some of these folks who set us straight on how great some of these players are. Conte clearly neither recognizes nor appreciates the talent that lies in the boots of players like Dele and Bergwijn. In light of your theory, perhaps Conte has a similar misunderstanding with Kane and doesn't appreciate all that he brings.
was worried about the strength of Harry Kane’s desire to leave
This could go either way but to be consistent with your take it would mean Conte wanted to see if Kane was playing the leverage game to, 1) get more money or 2) get DL to spend...or really leave. I can see a manager not wanting the uncertainty. Kane coming back seemed to affect performances somewhat.

Mou wanted that too. Welcome to Spurs, Antonio.

Any reports of Conte EVER talking to Harry personally? If he didn't or hadn't then I'd have to wonder exactly how close anything really was. I can't imagine being in that position and not gauging the star player's temperature.
