Transfers January 2022 - Transfer Window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I think you might be disappointed too if you're expecting:

3 out
3 starters in
+ 3 squad players in

It's January.... We need to focus primarily on essential incoming players; even if that means delaying certain sales until the summer.

Yeah I'm not 'expecting' that, but for me that would be the ceiling of what could be possible in the January window - although optimistic.

What I'm expecting is 1-2 players that are good enough for our first team but probably not nailed on starter quality.

I have been reading the Traore chatter wondering if people genuinely think this would be a 'Conte signing' rather than a club signing.
Wouldn't say "Levy" signing because that's pushing a personal agenda rather than the truth.

I am not sure how pointing out the truth about Levy is a personal agenda and not the truth. Ultimately whether it is a "club" signing and not a Levy signing doesn't matter much to me if it is not a Conte signing.

When Nuno was in charge I was convinced it's a manager wanting to bring in one of his former players, but at this point it feels to me like our clubs 'transfer team' invested a lot into the behind the scenes stuff required prior to signing a player, and are now probably pushing all of that data and research on Conte for him to sign off on the work they have already done.

Should we sign him and he succeeds, it will be regarded a Conte signing - but should he turn up playing like a classless bully, it will be a "Levy signing".

Conte is no ones mug, but he might give a Traore deal the green light because he could see him offering cover for Lucas or RWB more than no incoming player would - but I would rather we let Conte pick the players he feels are right for his system, and approach them rather than approaching Conte with a list of Bergwijn style names for him to pick from.

That is my concern, that Conte has decided to take a different approach and build with us because we need more work than the previous clubs he has been with and is willing to take someone he believes he can work with versus a guy he truly wants. Thinking that if he does this he will get what he needs when we are closer to competing.

That's just me though, and I'm not a huge fan of the director of football role because although it's focus is centred around the club progressing regardless of managers coming or going - what we have right now with Conte is a very rare situation for us having one of world footballs current top managers, and personally would prefer we do throw caution to the wind and just give the man what he wants.

For all the love and respect I have for Poch, in my opinion he was a firm level below what we have with Conte and should it go tits up, we may not see another manager of this level agree to join us for decades.

I am fine with a DOF, especially for a club like us that can't just bring in a constant stream of elite managers/players, unfortunately for us we have a crap DOF so it doesn't help us at all.

With a proper DOF like say Luis Campos or Rangnick, you have someone who can ensure that the club is building with a purpose and if the manager needs to be swapped out the club doesn't need a complete rebuild/remake.

I don’t know, Traore in 19/20 with 4 goals and 9 assists on the Premier League is more goal involvements than Young ever had in a season since 2010/2011 at Villa. He’s never had more than 8 in a season since.

Moses has never had more than 7 goal involvements in a season and only one season over 3 goals.

Traore would definitely have to improve and adapt to his new position, but his career numbers are really quite similar to Young and Moses, except they’ve played a lot longer. I’m sure Conte backs himself to get a lot more out of Traore than others have.
Then why doesn't he just get more out of Royale or convert Bergwijn and save us the money?

As I just said to Igula, it's not just his strength and pace that sets his dribbling apart, it's also his footwork.
Of course he can't do what Salah does, he's nowhere near that level in the box.

......But that's what he would have faced against Watford; not half a dozen veritable traffic cones on the wing.

We're back to square-one in this debate... It wasn't Emerson's ability to get up the pitch that was brought into question; it was his end product. i.e Not how he gets to the box, but what he does with the ball when he gets there.

It's a wonder Liverpool are interested if he's so fucking shit.
They never buy cheap squad fillers...

As though Fiorentina will say to themselves "Well Ali Gold said Spurs had no money so better sell them Vlahovic for only 30m now."

We have seen in the past the reports are that we don't have money to spend and then we don't spend but maybe this is the time that the reports say that and we are actually tricking the world to get everyone for half price!
It’s one of the daftest arguments constantly peddled on here

Emerson is still clearly in the plans and is a work in progress, Doherty will go and we'll get another RWB based on the reports.

I don't even know if he wants Traore, we're just spitballing here. He must not think Bergwijn is a fit for RWB, hasn't he said he thinks he's actually a fit at forward? I think that's the case.

Conte said something along the lines of viewing Bergwijn as cover for Kane - so a centre forward.

I don't think Conte rates Bergwijn as a player he can rely on though regardless or position.

Yeah we'll just have to wait and see.

I genuinely don't know what to make of Traore. His 2019/2020 was really good and he was good in the championship. Other players always praise him and seem to hate playing against him. Obviously he's had a tough two seasons in terms of final product, but Wolves have also been the worst non-relegation team going forward in the league the last two seasons. 13 goals in 18 this season 35 in 38 last year. Dreadful attacking team.

I get the sense that top managers think there's a lot of talent there that is being misused, but then again who knows, he's a unique player in all aspects. I can't really think of a comparison past or present.

I think Traore makes sense for a club like Wolves that doesn't have the ability to have a team full of qaulity players to have a balanced attack so having Traore that occasionally does things at a high level makes sense. It is worth it for them to have him potentially win them a game once every 10 games and then do basically nothing for the other 9.

For us we have the resources to get in players that are better than him and able to play at a level consistently to have us have a consistent attack. That is why if you look at the top teams in England and Europe nobody has a player like him that is a gimmick and offers very little overall.

He hasn't really been linked with the top teams, already been moved out from a top club. I think top managers see a guy that is limited and can't fit into the system that they want to play. He isn't good enough to have a team build their play around him.

He is a lot like Nuno, Wolves is his level if he came to us it would be the biggest team he would ever play for and a level above his ability.

He has good footwork too, if it was just athleticism, Sissoko would be a good dribbler.

But no one does this; he's always double marked and fouled constantly.

He doesn’t have the footwork to dribble through 9 men in a box.

It happens all the time. It’s why people who watch him talk about how ineffective he is because he constantly takes himself out of the play.

The 'argument' isn't "peddled" in the manner that Igula Igula suggests though.

The most people argue is that the club (understandably) prefer to keep their cards close to their chest and maybe float a red-herring or two; not that they expect to get players "half-priced" as Iggy categorically inferred.

It's commonly accepted that - in any negotiation - if a seller thinks you are minted or desperate they will try and squeeze you for more dosh... Why not try to avoid that?

(Some really poor business minds in our midst.)

And the fact that everybody is getting all angry because of an article from Gold is laughable. Gold isn’t much of a journalist as he is just a mouthpiece for Spurs and just says whatever Spurs press people tell him to say.

Of course Spurs are going to tell him to say we won’t spend much so that idiots don’t try and rinse us because everybody knows Winter transfer sales are hyper inflated because it’s the middle of the season.

It absolutely is peddled that way.

All the time we hear from apologists that if the club says that we are buying the needed players that we will have to pay a premium so that is why the talk is that there is no money to spend, then low and behold we see no actually there was no money to spend because Levy is a cheap cunt.

Good call.

If Fiorentina think we have no money to spend they will surely alter the amount they value Vlahovic.

That is how transfer works players are valued solely on what clubs publicly announce they are able to spend.

No it isn't....

Show me one post that says we'll get players for "half-price".

You can't; because that's simply a MASSIVE false representation on your part.

All the time we hear from apologists that if the club says that we are buying the needed players that we will have to pay a premium

Which is basically true (although more accurately portrayed by my post above)...... Most clubs play down their intentions..... Even Pep acts like a pauper when it comes to talk of the trf window.

so that is why the talk is that there is no money to spend, then low and behold we see no actually there was no money to spend because Levy is a cheap cunt.

There IS always money available though.....

We spent this summer.
We spent last summer.
We spent the summer before that.

(On last count; that amountes to about 16 players incoming!)

Even the summer where we bought no-one; there was money made available. We just frittered said window away hankering for players that weren't available to us.

Even whilst the stadium was being built we still spent money.
