Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Dier made a mess vs Watford, Southampton, twice vs Westham, fell asleep vs Brentford, terrible vs Vitesse, fat slug vs Newcastle, really really shit vs Woolwich, league game vs chavs, almost gave away 2 goals in 2 minutes vs wolves,. probably more that i cant think of.
We beat Watford twice and beat most of the other teams you mentioned.
The results were going nicely this season until Eric got injured v CP and we lost 3-0.

Whenever theres a cross thats near dier, its very likely he wont reach it because of being so slow , its a scary moment and when he thinks he is messi and tries taking players on while being the deepest player. Thankfully sanchez has the speed to run back and get in the way when dier fucks up.

Having said that, 3 at the back does help our shite centrebacks a bit. Ideally they all need to be replaced, hopefully in the summer.
I think I just don’t see our defence as the main issue. Haven’t we topped the defensive charts since Conte joined? There or thereabouts.

I think Sanchez and Dier might actually help each other. Sanchez with his speed, Dier for his experience in possession.

I’m simply far more annoyed with our attack. And I disagree with the general attitude that defenders cost us games, whereas Kane and Son fucking up chance after chance don’t.

The defence is absolutely the big issue. Romano says a new CB is top of AC's list.
With either Romero or Eric fit we are OK. Both of them out and there is a problem.

Allowing for confirmation bias; the truth is innevitably somewhat less damning.

As much as our defensive personnel can be improved upon, I don't go into matches particularly concerned about them like I did under Jose & Nuno (where every week we'd see a different back 4/5).... My concerns are typically:

- Will we be over-run in midfield?
- Will we have any form of creative edge?
- Are our finishers gonna be sharp today?

You're either in the army or you're not in the army.
Thats nothing to do with anything.

We didnt lose so Dier played well is a stupid thing to say. We can still not lose while Dier makes mistakes because the other team still has to capitalize and they can fail if our other defenders or goalkeeper saves his arse.

If Sanchez scores a goal and we win 1-0 that doesnt mean our attackers missing chances and not creating goals hasnt happend.

Tottenham are hesitant to sign Brighton starlet Tariq Lamptey because of his price tag as they continue their reported pursuit of Wolves winger Adama Traore. Antonio Conte has entered his first transfer window as Spurs boss and is expected to make a couple of additions to his squad.

Traore ‘wants to play under Conte’ in huge Tottenham transfer boost
The Italian has enjoyed success in his short spell at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Conte is unbeaten in his first eight Premier League matches and has seen Spurs into the semi-final of the EFL Cup – although suffered a 2-0 first-leg defeat versus Chelsea.

It is a major turnaround from the poor form under his predecessor Nuno Espirito Santo.

Spurs are now sixth and are just two points off fourth-placed Woolwich as they seek a late Champions League surge.

However, that has not stopped Conte earmarking potential signings. The 52-year-old has made clear that he wants to complete business this month.

Wing-backs, centre-backs and forwards have been widely linked with Spurs, with Brighton’s Lamptey one of the names Express Sport understands to be of interest.

We understand £50million-rated Lamptey is of interest to both Spurs and north London rivals Woolwich.

But Spurs consider the 21-year-old to be too pricey, according to journalist Dean Jones. Managing director of football Fabio Paratici will instead crack on with his pursuit of Wolves ace Traore.

Conte is widely understood to feel that he can turn Traore into a wing-back in the same way he modified Victor Moses’ game when he was head coach at Chelsea

It is the Express though. They’ve never got a transfer right in their history.

That makes sense. Not scoring big chances is as bad as messing up at the back.

Attackers just get away with it more because their fuckups dont change the scoreline while a defenders mistakes costs a goal and changes the score.

True.

But I think so much of that is down to Conte seeing the defence as key to how we attack. They have to know exactly when to push up, where to play the ball, plus we’ll likely see a deep laying playmaker join us.

In that regard, *both* Sanchez and Dier are unsuitable, but especially the former as he’s uncomfortable in possession.

For the time being however, they’re both doing their best.

As per your comments below:

Honest question.... Do you genuinely think it's feasible that our defense is made up solely of 50m components?

Romero is at that mark... Peeps are wanting/expecting another top CB signed in now or in the summer (who'll likely cost similar).... Plus Lamptey..... That would be City level spending (without the City-level expendable wealth).

We already spent near 30m each on Emerson, Sess & Reg in recent seasons..... + like it or not 40m on Dav.

That's hardly a bargain bucket.

Lets be honest Lamptey would probably be more like 30m too if he wasn't HG.

Also another bit of perspective; some peeps were chill with spending as much as 40m for Aarons for the last 2 summers..... Now look; he's no longer flavour of the month despite the fact that he's still young (22), still HG, we're still sniffing about for RBs and to my reckoning would be cheaper now as his deal has run down even more. Why does no-one want the last un-missable cab off the rank that would allegedly see us set for a decade (as per the well worn cliche's).

I won't deny Lamptey is fun to watch, but spending big on him makes me nervous given his apparent injury struggles..... We already have Sess, Gio & Berg (aka just shy of 100m) taking up all the beds most weeks.
If we can get good quality for cheaper then so be it, great. That is what the DOF and scouting is for. But if not, then we have to pay up if we're looking to challenge the other 3 clubs, Traore does not fit the bill of good quality for a cheaper fee imo.

Re: the highlighted last line of the article:

This seems to be what a lot of peeps here are hankering for and shouldn't having Conte on board with the idea be a clincher if the "what Conte wants" narrative amongst the fans is heartfelt?

The article doesn't actually discuss how keen on Lamptey Conte is so it'd be premature to conclude that Conte would merely be 'making do' with a Traore.

Traore fans may also point you to this: Chelsea boss Antonio Conte resumes interest in £20m Boro wing-back Adama Traore

Personally (for what little difference that makes); I'd be hoping there's a 3rd option out there that's an actual WB out there that already knows the fundamentals of the position and can promise a degree of end product (Hello Traore!) and is seemingly a little more robust (Hey Lamptey!***).

Maybe then we can talk about 40-50m+ fees.....

(Note: Lamptey's injuries are a concern even amongst those that despise Levy, so lets avoid the sillyness if this is gonna roll into a discussion.)

The interest was years ago, this month Traore is 26, he can't cross, he can't shoot, he's only been at mediocre clubs. Lamptey still very young, young enough to get some money back on him if it didn't work out but I'm confident that Conte would improve him. Injuries are always a concern but we're still showing interest, I don't think that is stopping us. If Brighton said tomorrow they would sell him to us for 20 million, I'm sure we would want to buy him despite his past injuries, so his fee is the main thing.
