vdv for sure

Think Ndombele came on and scored on his debut.
innocent whistle GIF
Ha! He did indeed, as did Bergwijn, but he still looked overweight and lazy. The performance didnt scream this is a quality player. Be nice to sign a Berbatov/VDV again.

He knows our lack of success will always keep the punters coming back hoping and expecting more. It's a no lose situation for him.

Zero trophies is the norm for most fans up and down the pyramid, yet they keep coming back each season.....

That aspect of what your saying is real enough, but depicting it as some form of Spurs-exclusive phenomena or part of some cynical fan-manipulation model is ridiculous.

Here's your facts, liar - 200m net spend in 10 fucking years - 20m per year

We have been outspent by

- Chelsea
- City
- Woolwich
- Man Utd
- Liverpool
- Aston Villa
- Everton
- West Ham
- Newcastle

On par with Brighton, Wolves and Crystal Palace

Now please own it!

The link shows only 5 clubs have spent more than the £229.75m we spent over the past 10 years. They are, in order:

Man Utd - £532.27m
Man City - £465.01m
Woolwich - £369.7m
Everton - £275.12m
Chelsea - £267.03m

All the others spent less.

EDIT: My mistake... looking at the 5 years stats... doh!

Put him on ignore a while ago. the ranting and raving and endless conspiracy theory comments got too much.

I do feel as though potentially, big net spends are being reigned in these days. Teams like Barcelona, who spent the best part of $300,000,000 on Dembele and Countinho and are now crippled, show it's not sustainable nor a guarantee of quality and success.
It’s wages that strangle clubs finances, not fees. Our wage to turnover % is lowest in the league IIRC

Funny error, but also quite telling - even in the last 5 years where we've built the new stadium, there are only 5 teams with a bigger player net spend in that period... I can see both sides of the 'spend' argument - over 5 years it looks very good, over 10 years much less so. I guess you just choose which narrative you prefer to focus on and then pick the timeframe that supports it. :roflmao:

Well he can either be a number 10, which Conte doesn’t use, or he can be a right-footed wing attacker, which is duplicative of Traore.

Lots of flip-flopping going on regarding Traore.... I thought the interest (both most fans baying for him and the rumoured club interest) revolved around him being a RWB and providing better end product than Emerson.

Yeh, Lingard has been known to play the odd game on the wing, but typically he is a #10 or one of a 3 x CM MF.

But fair enough... A least I know what you meant now.

I definitely don’t think of him as a proper midfielder in the necessary Conte sense.

Btw if we want some cheapo United dross, Anthony Martial on loan til the end of the season would be a viable backup striker solution. And we know Hitchen loves him.

According to a report by 90min, Tottenham Hotspur have approached AS Roma over a swap deal involving Tanguy Ndombele.

Ndombele’s future at Spurs looks in doubt after the midfielder was booed off the pitch by fans in Tottenham’s FA Cup third-round win over Morecambe on Sunday.

Fabrizio Romano has since revealed that Tottenham are looking to shift Ndombele this month and are willing to discuss potential swap deals including the Frenchman.

If 90min’s latest update is to be believed, the North London club have now approached Roma over swapping Ndombele for Nicolo Zaniolo or Lorenzo Pellegrini.

However, the report claims that a deal is ‘unlikely’ to materialise this month.

Spurs are also thought to hold an interest in Roma starlet Ebrima Darboe but it is explained that Jose Mourinho is a fan of the youngster.

90min also suggest that Tottenham are exploring the option of swapping Ndombele for Inter Milan midfielder Stefano Sensi, who Antonio Conte is said to be keen on reuniting with.

That link also shows the last 5 years we've net spent 50m more than Liverpool, doubled our annual net spend to 44m, and only been outspent (net) by Arse, Chelsea, City, ManU, Everton.

The last three years - since stadium was completed - only four teams have higher net - Arse (-307m), Villa (227), ManU (321.22), ManC (217) than us (215.4).

Last three years we've almost matched City's net, higher net spent than Liverpool (43m) and Chelsea (75m).

As others have said. Our biggest problem is not how much we spend. Our financial model is pretty normal for the overwhelming majority of clubs in Europe.

It's been how we spend.

We used to be much better at it, the last 5 years we've been pretty bad at it - or to be more accurate, lots of other clubs wised up and got better at it, whilst we simultaneously got worse.

Well said but if anything understating the problem.

For Poch's first game in charge, players included Lloris, Vorm, Walker, Rose, Vertonghen, Davies, Dembele, Mason and Bentaleb (Poch first choice CMs in 1st season). Eriksen, Lamela, Kane.

And these are the players who were core to Poch's teams.

Transfers in to Spurs after that point in time :

15/16

Son £27m - (Huge success)
Alderweirels £14m (Very good for several years linking up with Vertonghen)
N'Jie £12m
Wimmer £5m
Trippier £4m (Very good option for a couple of years)

But after that its not so good :

16/17:
Wanyama £11m (one season wonder)
Janssen £ 17m
Nkoudou £ 11m
Sissoko £ 30m (2 seasons awful, 2 seasons ok, 1 season awful)

17/18:

Gazzaniga £ 4m
Sanchez £ 38m (one decent season, but not lived up to expectation. Overall average ?)
Foyth £ 8m
Aurier £ 23m (always an accident waiting to happen, had to be paid off),
Llorente 12m (End of career type signing but under used)
Moura £ 25m (Only a surprise hattrick v Ajax seemed to be his legacy, but playing his best under Conte)

18/19:
Nobody - Poch too picky to have 2nd options after De Jong picked Barcelona and new Villa owners refused to sell Grealish

19/20:
Ndombele £60m ( Appears too lazy for PL)
Lo celso £ 42m (Seems a nothing player except for Argentina even when fit)
Sessegnon £ 30m (Too injury prone to assess other than decent loan season at Hoffenheim)
Clarke £ 10m
Bergwijn £ 27m (Hasn't worked out - my pragmatic alternative of Bowen from Hull in line for 20 goals/assists this season)

20/21:

Hojbjerg £15m (key midfielder last season, been run into ground)
Doherty £15m (Poor despite a PL pedigree)
Reguilon £ 27m (Really expecting more - hope he responds to Conte coaching)
Rodon £12m (don''t know why he has not played more - impossible to assess)

So since 2016/17 window ....... its between Hojbjerg and Moura as to who is our best signing.

A truely awful result from so many Transfer Windows and so much money spent
