Transfers January 2022 - Transfer Window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If this window sees us linked but not able to get anything of note over the line I think we know how this ends.

Conte is asking the questions openly.

Ply him with what he wants and for me he stays until 2024/5. If not I am taking bets on Contexit this year.

Kane for all his fcukwittery in the summer is behind this guy, so it's do or don't say you weren't warned.

I know this list is outdated etc., but to say there is nobody "available" from this list is just bullshit as is it that none of them would fit into our first 25 man squad

Contracts expiring

How to finance them? Well, tell all of Ndombele, Doherty, GLC that they will-not-play-again-for-Spurs. It's a World Cup year. They'd agree moves in a flash, if they knew they'd spend 5 months doing shuttleruns behind the janitors shed.

Not that we need finance, obvs. With the new stadium, which in no way affects our finances, we have more cash to spend than ever. Right?

We can't force clubs to sell. And we can't force players to sign for us.
You're just going to have to understand that.

In order to sign a player, you have to convince their club to sell them AND you have to convince the player to sign for you.
You're looking at clubs that are in desperate financial trouble with good squads to pillage. Who is that this month? There's clubs in desperate trouble, but their squads are gash.
There's clubs with good players, but they're not desperate for money.

If you're jealous that Newcastle signed Woods, you need to stop watching football. He's a £10m or less player who will score 3-5 goals.
Villa got Coutinho through the buddy club. He wasn't on the table. Deal with it.
We didn't need a LB, we don't have £25m to blow on a position we're not trying to strengthen.

You're just being silly and you're acting like a spoilt child in a toy shop who's parents won't buy him something.

No more players from bad Ligue 1 teams. 2 goals in 19 appearances this season. 0 in 21 last season. He’s perfect for us.
I haven't seen him play (not even on youtube), so I am not saying Spurs should sign him up but he's only 18 years old and yet he's started 15 out of 19 games for Angers this season - scoring 2. And he's spent 5 seasons at Everton's academy, so he'd be a homegrown player who knows life in England.
Drogba had played for Le Mans and Guingamp before joining Chelski at 26.
Kante had played for Boulogne and Caen before he joined Leicester at 24.
Mahrez had played for Le Havre before he joined Leicester at 23.
Ok, those players were exceptions but it's "exceptional" players Spurs are looking for - and very hard to find. And yes I do remember Clinton and Nkoudou very well 😁

Sure,

but then we're buying above average players who are available now as opposed to "good" players who are available in the summer, and we're stuck with those "above average" players on high wages on our books because we had to pay them a lot to come to us in Jan in the first place.

we'll want to upgrade again in the summer and we're stuck with more players we want out.

it's a vicious cycle.

See Liverpool with VVD, don't by the back up wait for (or overpay) for the one you want - assuming they want to come!

THIS!!!

We're in this mess because we over paid for shite like TND and GLC and yet fans want us to go and do the same shit again. Get mid level talent and over pay for it to push it through.

Interesting.

So we can't force a selling club with a players looking to leave for nowt to consider an offer?

Because, I do swear, I can remember a string of top players leaving Spurs under the exact same circumstances. Could you enlighten all us "children" as to why market mechanisms don't apply to Spurs are buying club, as, seemingly the only football club in the univers? Please do.

I literally just gave you a list. And I'm not obliged to, since I am not a highly paid professional football scout. That was just the OSINT options.

I didn't mention him. You just made that up while ragetyping.

Villa got Coutinho through the buddy club. He wasn't on the table. Deal with it.

I didn't mention that either, so there, another straw man.
You're just being silly and you're acting like a spoilt child in a toy shop who's parents won't buy him something.

And you are acting like a petulant adolescent, whose illusion of the world, as you see it, is under severe challenge.

Decent list there.

If you look at our 25 man squad, we'd be improved by players who are WELL from the f*cking top.

No offence.
In the build up to this window, there was very little, if any, chat on here about no players being available or the January window being too difficult.

Even the €NIC fanatics were pretty much adamant Conte would be backed and they would finaly call Levy out if that backing failed to materialise.

24 days in, 1 week left, not a single signing made and the backtracking is already in full flow.:roflmao:

They just can't bring themselves to criticise their man.

It's really interesting to watch the squirming unfold.

Nuno would have had little to no power over transfers, he was there because we couldn't get anyone else at the time. Emerson is just a shit modern fullback, whether at RWB or RB he would never be good enough going forward. Look at the players the other top clubs have in those roles. Jury out on Romero yes, but Gil is about to be loaned about for being so ineffective, and Sarr seems to be struggling to get in a lower down the table Ligue 1 side.

We brought him in to elevate our transfer business, and he hasn't done that.
Where do you have the info that Nuno had no say in who Spurs bought? I don't believe that Nuno had no say regarding transfers.
Sarr is not struggling to get into the Metz team. He's started 13 out of 18 games and came on as a sub in the other 5. 1 goal and 1 assist and playing for Senegal in the ANC. And he's 19 years old.
I am not saying that Gil will become a hit but he's not the first player to struggle in his first season in the EPL And he's only 20. Theirry Henry was also one of those.

Don't even know who signed since.

But that lazy argument about "ooooh so hard to sign" and "ooooh no quality players available", well that is all utter bullshit. Muttered by people scared to discuss the actual material football stuff.

Let's be honest. Who left us recently by the added power of expiring contracts? Well, hell, Eriksen did. Harry almost did. Before them Modric, Carrick IIRC, Carr and god knows how many other of our top-players-at-the-particular-time.

It's astonishing the lenghts people will go to, only to *not* say "yeah OK, perhaps ENIC have lost touch, we are regressing here".

Why would I need the info? It's fucking obvious! We have a DoF. Nuno was a last minute choice as a stopgap. There's zero chance we were giving him much power over transfer strategy, Emerson was an opportunistic signing due to Barca struggling.

Ok, but this all still = no successful, impactful signings thus far for Spurs. When 1-2 of those would have us comfortably in the top four. Thus far he has failed to deliver, and he left Juventus in a state too so I have little faith of that turning around.

Exactly what I've said all along - this window isn't make or break. It's the summer window.
Conte has managed multiple January windows. The best player he's probably ever signed was Eriksen and he barely played the 2nd half of that season under him.
The only players easy to get at this time of year are shit ones.

This window isn't make or break, especially in regards to Conte leaving I think he is here until the summer at a minimum.

But there are two factors that I think making at minimum two moves are necessary if not more.

1. 4th place- The race for 4th is wide open. The money it brings and the ability to attract players with the CL carrot is massive. Adding 2 players likely makes us the favorites so there is no reason not make moves now to maximize our chances.

Missing out on CL would really hurt us going forward and there is no reason for us not to get 4th place this year.

2. The amount of work needed on this squad is massive. We likely need at a minimum 5 new starters- 2 CBs', RWB, 2 MFers and better depth. That is looking at 6-10 players we need in. let alone all the crap we need to move out. As we hear all the time "you can't do that in one window" so if we leave it all to the all-important summer we are fucked and will just continue the cycle of not doing enough to improve the team and constantly trying to catch up.

Ndombele, LoCelso, Sessegnon, Clarke......fucking fantastic summer window:contefacepalm:

Poch owes us a favour big time by taking Ndombele back to Ligue 1 where he belongs.
Yeh shit but they are all still here. That's not Poch's fault.

Other clubs ship out failing players we just let them hang around for year after year. While making excuses for them needing time to settle and develop etc. We're still doing it with Sess and Clarke there are still people who think give them another year and they'll come good....

Yes there was, there was plenty of noise because the same thing is said every frigging year, you don't have to be Pro or anti ENIC or whatever nonsense criteria you wish to shove people in, look at the history of transfers this month for evert club, not just ours and then look at the behaviour as to when club's try and do business which is always in the last week.

Unless you believe the media's claims of Tottenham giving Conte £150m to spend this January then that's on you, set your expectations.
