(Side-stepping the factor of the player's preferred club for a moment....)

If reports are (were) true that's exactly the kind of deal we tried to do in the summer, but they were hanging on for £30-£40m.

If they'd have accepted a loan + option of £25m back in Sep he'd probably be here already and the cash would maybe already be in their coffers.

Again, if you believe the hype; ..etc
But they got some games out of him while his price dropped (he did help them win some points).

At least the good thing from missing out on him is that levy should be so embarassed from this failure that he will end up forcing himself to buy something. Hopefully that something isnt a panic buy like Sissoko.

The only thing less shocking than our failure to sign anyone is our failure to sell anyone.

Why would another club spend millions on players that we have proven are shit? When was the last time Lo Celso had a good game for Tottenham. February 2020? Who would want him?
However underwhelming GLC has been for us, I think his fitness is a bigger issue than his form. No one will give us money for a player who has been perpetually injured until it's time for and Argentina game.

With Ndombele I'd imagine no-one will give us any money for someone with his reported attitude, all we can do is loan the pair of them out and hope that in new surroundings both of these issues simply dissipate, at least for long enough for the buying clubs to decide they're worth parting with cash money for.

Mendes had an idea that Barca wanted him as Barca's interest did not just happen overnight. And they were liked to him before as well but due to their financial mess were unable to finalize a deal. Now they managed.
And it is not unusual for a club and a player to wait for better offers.
Besides, if the reports are true (neither your nor I can claim to know that right now) that Traore did not want to play RWB, well, that in itself shows he was not ready to join Spurs.

Already back in June 2021, Traore said this when he was questioned about Barca's interest: "Barcelona is my home."
One thing I'll say is there is no way we have only just found out about him not wanting RWB, he was just biding his time for a better offer

How have we not moved out of any of Lo Celso, Ndombele, Dele Alli, Rodon, Doherty et al? Are you seriously telling me offers haven't been on the table for these?

It's rare that i'm actually shocked......

.......No plan, nothing.

You're "shocked" that there's no buyers for a bunch of players who's form is in the complete dirt? ....Even though the first 3 are all seemingly also being made available for loan?

.......What sort of "plan" do you suggest changes that situation and creates buyers for those players?

I don't think it's impossible for us to still get top 4 in that scenario but we would have blown a massive opportunity to start the rebuild.
Top four will get harder to achieve in the next couple of years with clubs like villa and more notably Newcastle who are ambitious to day the least.
I think utd will get top four this season but certainly 2/3 players in would have helped us but did we expect any different.

Did it occur to you that if we had given a decent deal to wolves and to traore in the first week of the window, then it wouldnt reach a stage where someone else comes in 3weeks later? The bald fool wants to rip everyone off at every opportunity (he does it even wtih the fans with the ridiculously priced tickets) that it doesnt work anymore.

Barca were mentioned by Twitter cunts weeks ago.... It's not a sudden shock.

The path we are on Villa will be above us inside 6-12 months.

West Ham have already closed the gap, though I still think we just about have enough to fend them off.

Newcastle is a question of when not if with the money they have access too now.

Again, if you believe the hype; Wolves would rather loan him than accept £20m from us now..... They'd rather Barca MAYBE pay £27m for him in the summer; but if they don't execute that option then they'll have a player in the last 12 months of his deal back on the payroll and potentially leaving for nothing a year later.

Economically dumb (twice!) by Wolves.
Thank goodness Levy was so clever as to not do the deal. He has outsmarted Wolves last summer has outsmarted them this January and I think he might be outsmarting them next summer on Traore is the spin

Or conversely we never got him last summer, we are not getting him in January and we might not get him next summer.

Meanwhile Wolves have had Mouthino ( yes that Mouthino) for a few years and sold us Doherty.

Danny boy is really showing them who is the boss

PS They even extracted value for a few years out of Nuno 😂
