Transfers January 2022 - Transfer Window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Did it ever occur to you - and some others on here - that Adama Traore actually wanted to return to Barca - which he called his home - where he's already spent 10 years and that he knew of Barca's interest and simply waited a deal to be done and that Spurs were his 2nd choice?
Did it occur to you that if we had given a decent deal to wolves and to traore in the first week of the window, then it wouldnt reach a stage where someone else comes in 3weeks later? The bald fool wants to rip everyone off at every opportunity (he does it even wtih the fans with the ridiculously priced tickets) that it doesnt work anymore.

I can live with not strengthen as many positions as we need to IF we get someone like Dias in, because he still addresses a need and brings that top class potential that could elevate is the way someone like Bruno did at Manure. For half a season at least that can get you over the line.

Spurs-Diaz talks continuing

Tottenham are continuing talks over a deal for Porto winger Luis Diaz as they look to strengthen their squad before the transfer deadline.
Spurs are not expected to attempt an intervention in Adama Traore’s ongoing move to Barcelona and they have other targets – high among them being Diaz.
Spurs had wanted Traore to be willing to play at right wing-back for the rest of this season before looking again at the position in the summer market.
They remain interested in a deal for Middlesbrough’s Djed Spence this month for example, but he cannot arrive until the summer because he has already played for two clubs this term, currently being on loan at Nottingham Forest.
Spurs are hoping to bring in at least one new signing this month regardless of whether they offload Dele Alli, Tanguy Ndombele and/ or Giovani Lo Celso, although doing so could allow them to do more work to the squad.

Let's be honest we aren't getting anyone in. This is going to be another painful window and even worse, Conte will (rightly) claim Levy reneged on the promise made on signing of funds being available to buy new players and improve the squad.

How have we not moved out of any of Lo Celso, Ndombele, Dele Alli, Rodon, Doherty et al? Are you seriously telling me offers haven't been on the table for these?

It's rare that i'm actually shocked by the incompetence of our recruitment these days but you have to say the last 12 months have been an utter shit show.

The managerial circus for a start. What an utter shambles that was. We looked an absolute laughing stock the way we were going through options. Ended up with the 5/6th choice, who suprise, suprise was a complete disaster. Onto the player recruitment and Paratici...

No plan, nothing. Don't even think one of the players we've been linked with in this window have been sensible options, to say nothing of the fact we couldn't even get the highly dubious signing of Traore over the line, which we've been apparently trying to do for TWO transfer windows now.

Still no centre midfielder, still no back up striker, still no RWB. As I say, not even been linked with anybody that I would say is going to improve us - and it wouldn't be fucking hard lets face it!

I think we should hold off judgement until the fat lady sings. 3 outs and 3 ins would be acceptable given the state of things and the state of last summers window. But if it’s just that guy from Florentina in and Ndombele as the out we will have fucked up and given our chance for 4th we will have let Conte down big time which makes me fear summer.

But that's very clearly not what happened here.

What happened here for anyone paying attention is Wolves had an asset whose head had been turned and no longer wanted to play for them and was on a ticking clock contract situation.
They had to bench him when he's been a regular there, many Wolves fans referred to him as their best player.
We can get into debates about whether their best player is Neves or whatever, the point is Traore was a very important player for them.

So anyway, Levy aware that Traore wants out does what Levy always does, he tries to play brinksmanship until the very last second to slash a couple of million off.

He's done this so many times now and its cost us getting players like Tomiyasu.

Then before Levy gets a chance to see if Wolves will cave into this particular game of chicken Barca recognise there is a bit of talent they can try on a loan with no obligation to buy and they step in.

At which point obviously any lingering deal with us is toast for two reasons, they are a bigger draw and at this point Levy looks a cunt if he goes back in with a better offer.

The club then puts out a bit of spin through the likes of Gold that Traore never wanted to play RWB, when in the past two months he's been "very receptive to joining us"

It's obvious what's happened, whether you wanted Traore or not (he seems to be marmite on here) let's not let Levy off the hook for fucking up another deal.

So we were after him since the summer and couldnt do a deal like this?

(Side-stepping the factor of the player's preferred club for a moment....)

If reports are (were) true that's exactly the kind of deal we tried to do in the summer, but they were hanging on for £30-£40m.

If they'd have accepted a loan + option of £25m back in Sep he'd probably be here already and the cash would maybe already be in their coffers.

Again, if you believe the hype; Wolves would rather loan him than accept £20m from us now..... They'd rather Barca MAYBE pay £27m for him in the summer; but if they don't execute that option then they'll have a player in the last 12 months of his deal back on the payroll and potentially leaving for nothing a year later.

Economically dumb (twice!) by Wolves.

I think that's the truth - we are back to our old position. Spurs will show interest and then agents will hawk players about to others knowing they can use us as a fallback.
See Hazard/Willian etc etc.

The only thing less shocking than our failure to sign anyone is our failure to sell anyone.

Why would another club spend millions on players that we have proven are shit? When was the last time Lo Celso had a good game for Tottenham. February 2020? Who would want him?

Gives us the ability to rest either Son or Kane as well given both Kane and at a push Son can play the front role. Ideally 3 in, Dias, that guy from Florentina and a RWB.

The only upshot. is United, Woolwich, West Ham and even Chelsea will be no stronger either. All the teams around us in the league won't pull away.

All the excuses will come out now for why we couldn't get Adama, but it's yet another failed transfer saga after we were bombarded with 'the club are very confident it will get done' for months on end. They are an utterly incompetent, penny pinching bunch who drag shit out to try and get the 'best deal' and inevitably 90% of the time this blows up in their greedy fucking faces.

I don't think it's impossible for us to still get top 4 in that scenario but we would have blown a massive opportunity to start the rebuild.

None of that changes until Lewis is gone, he invests nothing and so we rely on self generated wealth even though the asset value is sky rocketing. This is the only way we will operate until we get a new owner, an 80 year old isn’t changing his spots.

Mendes had an idea that Barca wanted him as Barca's interest did not just happen overnight. And they were liked to him before as well but due to their financial mess were unable to finalize a deal. Now they managed.
And it is not unusual for a club and a player to wait for better offers.
Besides, if the reports are true (neither your nor I can claim to know that right now) that Traore did not want to play RWB, well, that in itself shows he was not ready to join Spurs.

Already back in June 2021, Traore said this when he was questioned about Barca's interest: "Barcelona is my home."

The whole wait till summer also worries me. Let say we sign no-one, that means we have to shift 6-7 players and buy 6-7 in the summer, we would be setting up to fail. At least if we do 3 in and out now the summer is more realistic.
