Transfers January 2022 - Transfer Window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If you ignore RWB or squad looks in decent shape off the back of this (I’m not necessarily saying that Lucas/ Hojbjerg / Winks are being relegated from the first xi, this is just some squad Tetris).

Ideally we also get in a good rwb and someone to lead the line in place of Kane (I’d say both of these are equally important). If we can get one of those it’s a good window, if both then very good. If neither then just passable.

We still approached Diaz way too late in the window, and that makes you wonder.

I'd like to think Kulu was 2nd choice, but somehow I doubt. Really feels to me he is Fabio's last-second get-out-of-jail card. And not a free one.

Same for Bentancur, had never been linked with him til Villa placed a bid. Think Fabio tried either nobody or he had totally unrealistic targets that didn't pan out...and like with Kulu, needed a 25th hour lifejacket...and thank god Juve was there
yeah yeah fabio out we understand that

There were reports early in the window that Conte wanted Kulusevski.

Bentancur, who knows? But Paratici has previous for setting up potential deals on a variety of players then pushing the button on the one(s) that are agreed on. Maybe our interest in him just flew under the radar?

Nah, I thiink we were after Kulu for a while but Diaz was an opportunity that presented itself.

End of the day you can only buy players who are available to be sold.

Why say "we still approached Diaz way too late in the window" when you can have no idea if that's true ... sure the media only got interested this week, but we might have been talking to his agent for six months, or indeed for just three days .... you simply don't know, yet have created your entire narrative around a series of such unfounded guesses. Are you a politician by any chance?

The reality is that all clubs and agents are in constant dialogue about literally dozens of players, it's what agents do.
Maybe we approached him earlier, you'd certainly hope we did.

Doesn't change the fact that we bid pretty late for him. That's not my opinion, that's just fact. And we know it's a Levy classic to try and keep the price down.

I hope for our top 4 ambitions that our two new signings show as much aggression on the pitch as you are showing on here...

If we got a RWB, I’d have to say we gave it a pretty good crack for a January window and competing in the run in.

Are Kulu and Bentancur good enough to push us over the top? I don’t know, but there’s some decently positive signs and pedigree with them.

Sucks to lose out on Diaz and Traore, but they’re going to Liverpool and Barcelona not United or Woolwich. You’d have to say we’ve strengthened more than our competitors for fourth unless they pull something unexpected off late.

Not really, only ever heard Berbatov himself mention Valencia and Bayern Munich, but I think he felt some loyalty to Leverkusen, wanted to play in the Premier League, Spurs were actively interested the longest and he liked BMJ.

If a Barca, Juve, United etc. would have been in for him at the time we would have never seen him.
Man Utd wanted him but he turned them down

Bulgaria striker Dimitar Berbatov says he turned down an offer from Manchester United to join Tottenham Hotspur after talking to manager Martin Jol.

The 25-year-old, who has agreed a four-year deal with the Premier League club subject to a work permit, is leaving Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of €16 million.

"I can reveal now that I had an offer from Manchester United and everyone knows what it means but after talking to Martin several times I decided to choose Spurs," he said.

"We (the player and his agent) went to see Tottenham's match against United last month and afterwards I met Martin. It was our first meeting but I realised that he's a very special man."

The striker, handed the number nine shirt at White Hart Lane, also told a news conference he is keen to show that he is worth the money Spurs are paying for him. "I'm looking forward to succeeding at Tottenham, which is a club everyone has spoken highly of," said Berbatov.

"The club made a great effort to sign me and I hope to return that effort playing for them."

Berbatov, who has been on top form for Leverkusen in recent seasons and was second-top scorer in the Bundesliga last term, has become the most expensive Bulgarian player.

His national team-mate Valeri Bojinov joined Fiorentina from Lecce last year for a reported €13 million.

Berbatov scored 69 goals in 154 matches in his five-year Bundesliga spell, having missed only two games in the last three seasons. He has also scored 31 goals in 50 full internationals. He will become the third Bulgarian in the English Premier League, joining Charlton defender Radostin Kishishev and Portsmouth striker Svetoslav Todorov.

People who are worried about Juve fans really happy about seeing the back of these guys should remember they were very happy to see Romero leave to Atalanta, next season he won Serie A defender of the year. Not saying these guys will become world beaters but if Conte wanted these guys than let’s just wait and see what role he has in mind for them.

Yeah that's entirely possible. So much is being said during a TW, it's hard to really know what's what.

Them two dudes are Spurs now and let's back them up, that's what matters 😊
