Transfers January 2022 - Transfer Window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

There is a lot of emphasis being put on a 3 minute stretch of play to ignore 45+ games of mediocre (being kind) play from Bergwijn outside of that.

If the plan was to move him before the Leicester game I would hope we still stick with that plan. I am not that upset if we keep him as he has talent but expecting him to produce goals seems very hopeful. He hasn't shown anything to indicate he can be relied on to score at the PL level.
I wouldn't be happy letting him go at this stage of the window as it doesn't look like we're going to bring in anyone better.

If we had brought in Luis Diaz, it would have been a different story

I guess since I am hoping for us to move to a 3-5-2 I don't see a fit for him with us anyways so bringing someone in better or not doesn't really matter because he doesn't fit.

If we are sticking with the stupid 3-4-3 then I guess we can use him as we moved out Gil so would be a little light on reserve wingers.

Again I must have watched the wrong matches. I keep hearing Bergwjin hasn't performed despite his opportunities.

I haven't seen him play 5 games in a row. I haven't seen him get continuos game time. Conté said he has potential and could fill a Strikers role. I believe he proves his potential against Leicester. I'm not saying he is Brilliant yet. In my opinion, he has done better than Ali, Ndombele and Lo Celso. Why sell him?

That should raise alarm bells.

But I'm not happy with a 3-5-2 with our current mids, best option with our current squad is 3-4-3.

There is no ideal formation for our current MF because it is terrible.

The 3-4-3 is a bad formation for us because it doesn't suit Kane and Son as well as the front 2, we have no quality at RW to play with them and we have no good options for the midfield duo (although not good group for the MF 3 in the 3-5-2 either).

I find in the 3-4-3 our midfield is so weak that it gets dominated easily, at least with the extra body in there for 3-5-2 we are able to clog things up a bit more. Probably doesn't matter against weak sides but as we saw with teams that can dominate the ball and/or press us in 3-4-3 we get killed when either happens.

You make a fair point re midfield 3 giving us more control over a game.

But what I fear is that with a 3-5-2 where you don't have any creative or attacking midfielders, and wing backs aren't huge threats; the pressure on Kane & Son to score is way too much.
I know you'll respond with Bergwijn's poor scoring stats, but at least he makes good off the ball runs which then frees up space for Kane and Son.
