Let's try this again.Upgrading Winks really means upgrading PEH to me. In my mind if we sell Winks, and by a new CM who can't relegate PEH to the bench that's a failed transfer, that's what I mean by we need not upgrade PEH not Winks.
With Sanchez I guess it makes more sense, as his replacement doesn't have to be better than Romero.
Upgrading Winks is upgrading Winks, who is a complete liability. An upgrade on Winks can compete with Hojbjerg and possibly replace him in the starting 11, or at least rotate and add depth.
Following your suggestion, what if we replace Hojbjerg but his replacement doesn't measure up, and we're stuck with a player competing with Winks for the starting 11. Now THAT is my definition of a failed transfer.
We need to clear out the dead wood. Hojbjerg isn't a superstar for us and his time with us has been up and down, but he's not dead wood either. If you're suggesting that we keep Winks ahead of Hobjerg, then either you're Winks himself or there's no hope for you.
