Transfers Summer 2022 Transfer Thread.

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I am looking forward to a transfer window for the first time in a long time, but we need to secure CL qualification first.

I would target Pau Torres to start at LCB, add a playmaker at CM, and get quality wingbacks to add depth and competition. I would only sell a few deadweights (Winks, maybe Sanchez) to keep a lot of depth. For example, I would keep Lucas. He is very good for depth in case of injury to our front three.

I think we can compete for multiple trophies and the title if we achieve the above.

We would have a world class front three, quality and depth in midfield, quality and depth wing backs, and absolutely elite and deep defenders.

The people wanting Milinkovic-Savic, where exactly do you see him playing for us?

Lazio play a 433 with SMS as an 8 (with a lot of license)
Conte seems fixed on a 343 with 2 CM's and no ACM's. There's no way SMS could play in the wide attacking remits. So he'd have to play in midfield. And unless we are dropping one of our three forwards (Son, Kane, Kulusevski) that means in a CM2. Even in Italy his dynamism and off ball work is pretty poor and he's mostly used as an 8 in a CM3. Accepted his attacking play from midfield as an 8 can be really good and he does produce. But if he's playing in Conte's CM2, he's going to have to spend far more time doing donkey work and water carrying than he does at Lazio.

I'd rather add a versatile forward who can play 9 and wide, our forwards have become super productive under Conte, and maybe just sell Winks and bring in an upgrade for PEH/Bentancur who can actually play in a CM2, do the aggression and dynamics but also play a bit more football and contribute a bit more to transition.

I just don't see where people like SMS, Eriksen, Maddison, Tielemans fit in. we don't play a format that fits them.

I would rate SMS ahead of the other 3 you listed there.

You are fundamentally right that they wouldn't start in a 3-4-3. But what a creative mid could offer (and why Conte said he wanted one last week) is more versatility... we could switch to 3-5-2 if needed.

I would tend to agree with you that if we have a limited pot of money to spend; I'd upgrade positions who have a role in a 3-4-3.
Angelino Singo Bastoni as 3 coming in would cost £110m. Would all be first XI.
Realistically we won't spend more than that. Ndombele and Lo Celso sales hopefully partly compensate for Bentancur and Kuluveski fees.

Mostly agree, but I think Tielemans of those you mentioned would be most likely to succeed in the role. I think SMS and Tielemans both could succeed in a Conte CM2, though as you say, SMS would need to accept doing a lot more donkey work and water carrying, which most of us seem to think he wouldn't really be into doing.

Eriksen and Maddison would be players who could cover the CM 2 or LW/RW roles, but wouldn't really ever be expected to start there against serious opposition. In that case, I'd rather take the Spurs own Eriksen on a free rather than pay for likely undercover rat Maddison.

Fuck all this noise though- there's got to be better Conte-CM-2s for us out there than these 4. I'm interested to hear more about under the radar picks from throughout Europe with a pricetag of 20-25m.

The is baseless hypothesis.....

GLC & Ndombele didn't bomb cos we panicked (we didn't!). We could have just as easily pissed 100m up the wall the summer before (130m if you count Sess).

Nor does buying B'cur & Kulu mean that we can or should be throwing 80m+ about on individual players.

You're just tossing around convenient, yet hollow rhetoric that sounds good purely cos it props up what you want.

You call for "risks"...

Sanchez 40m
Ndombele 60m
GLC 40m
Sess 30m
Romero 50m
Reg 30m

If we are to get the 3 - 5 top grade players most would conceed we need in the summer, then blowing 80m on 1 individual player lessens the chance of that happening.

We need to be smart.

We're not blowing 80m on SM-S and then laying out another 50m per pop on another 4 players; not is it reasonable to demand that we do so.

The 130M on GLC, Ndom and Sess should have been spent when we were in a strong position and the side was settled (2 years prior). You can bet their performances would have been far better coming into a good side vs a declining side

Yes it is if that’s what Conte and Paratici want. 130M is realistic net spend including 80M on SMS . Being smart doesn’t mean every signing needs to be good value…. Being smart is getting good players, one could be v expensive if the others are good value.

We didn't have it to spare before then. We were in the thick of a 1bn stadium project.

Bout time people final learned to deal with that inconvenient fact.

So blow the bulk of the kitty on one player and then go on a scavenger hunt for for the rest of the long list of players everyone's convinced themselves we need?

Torres... Lamptey or some other 50m flavour of the month RB.... Some flash LB... A CM... A striker...... A GK......Whoever else???

All from the bargain basement?

Consider the sale of TN & GLC enough to cover the price of Bcur & Kulu, you really think the rest of that can be done on 50m do you?

You're dreaming.

Evan Ndicka is making the rounds as a possible CB signing this summer.
22 years old, plays for Frankfurt in the Bundesliga since 2018, left footed. Ticks a lot of the boxes for us. Contract until 2023.

He's a really good player and a nice option on our list if we cannot get Gvardiol or Bastoni.

I feel like Moura is a real drag on us and plays every game. The 4th player plays a lot (at CB, in the front three, in midfield) so we need to improve those.

If Villareal are willing to pay 30m I reckon we can try to bait Sevilla into paying a little more. Maybe some Italian club like AC Milan or even Inter might add an extra 5m.
Let's not overcomplicate this. He wants to stay at Villareal, they want to buy, we want him off the books and Villareal offers us a fair price.

No need to instigate a bidding war and possibly tanking the entire deal.
If other clubs are genuinely interested they will reach out. There's no need for us to start fishing when we seem to have a good deal more or less ready.
