The biggest issue for Stevie and I am sure many of us mentioned it at the time.. was his best position was thought to be as a LW. And people on here just assumed that he would either have to play as a RW... or that we would force Son to play in that position.

And I think that has actually been the biggest issue, as our managers during that time never really wanted to play Son out of his favoured position (which is fair enough). But of course they were also reluctant to play Stevie there (as he seems to be ineffective there). So in effect he has just been used when Son has needed a rest.

So all in all, I think he is a very good player but he was the wrong signing at the time. We should have gone for a RW during that window. But that turned out fine in the end after a couple of more windows and the Kulu signing.

So I think this time we need a player who is versatile and can deputise for any of the forward players.. and that will get them more minutes.. especially coupled with the fact that we have CL football this year.

Anyone can confabulate about positions, systems, formations and woulda, coulda shoulda scenarios on our players but one thing about this Spurs side is absolutely, one hundred percent nailed on:

Conte is not going to fuck about moving around the pitch Kane, Son or Kulu in order to accommodate a five foot nothing, whining Dutchman.

Ever.

Spurs transfer news: Paulo Dybala will leave Juventus this summer amid interest from Tottenham, though the north Londoners seem to have been put off by the wage demands

Tottenham are set to make a huge decision in their pursuit of Paulo Dybala ahead of the upcoming transfer window. The 28-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to White Hart Lane this summer, though the prospect of a deal looks unlikely as football.londonfirst reported.

Last month, the Argentina international confirmed that he will leave the Old Lady at the end of the season, with his contract expiring in the coming weeks. Before Christmas, Dybala had reportedly agreed a five-year extension with the Italian giants worth around £6.8million-per-year, according to 90Min.

But, Massimiliano Allegri's side then reportedly moved the goalposts and offered the forward a revised contract months later which the forward rebuffed. Dybala, who is leaving Turin after seven years at the club, has since been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, but a deal could prove expensive.

Spurs will turn down the chance to sign the Argentine, according to the MailOnline. It's believed that Dybala is asking for £280,000-a-week — the equivalent of £14.6million per year.

The report adds that Inter Milan have made an offer to Dybala which is believed to be £6million a year including bonuses but he is holding out for more. However, while the sum may seem steep, the forward reminded suitors of his prowess in front of goal as he scored within minutes of his stoppage-time entrance in the 2022 Finalissima against Italy.

Conte compares Spurs' top-four finish to trophy joy
Tottenham beat Norwich 5-1 to secure a Premier League top-four finish for the first time in three years.

Argentina waltzed past Roberto Mancini's side 3-0 at Wembley Stadium, and Dybala hinted that he could get used to playing on English soil. After an impressive Finalissima cameo, he told ESPN: "I am quite calm. The people who I work with are taking care [of it]. In Italy, I am very comfortable, [but] I would still like to know other leagues like the Premier League [and] La Liga. But I'm happy in Italy."

Despite his injury record, the forward has been one of the most coveted players in Europe. Dybala's impressive displays have attracted the attention of several top-flight sides, making him hot property on the free agent market ahead of the summer.

Since arriving in Turin, Dybala's been central to much of the Old Lady's success lately and, more recently, relished a vice-captaincy role at the club. In February, Chelsea, Woolwich, Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City were all offered the chance to sign Dybala on a pre-contract agreement, according to 90Min.

The report claimed that Paris Saint-Germain and Inter were also interested. However, the English sides were reportedly not convinced that Dybala would leave the Bianconeri this summer after Spurs were close to clinching his signature in 2019 before talks broke down over the player's image rights.

"I was close to leaving. That was in the club's thinking, I knew. Until the last minute, we were waiting," Dybala told the Guardian later that season before stating that his coach Maurizio Sarri had not been the one wanting him to leave Juventus.

football.london reported last month that Dybala was not being considered as a target this summer, although another forward that is on Spurs' radar is 23-year-old Napoli's Victor Osimhen, who has netted 18 goals in 31 matches for Napoli this season. Tottenham considered the Nigerian back when he was in Ligue 1 in Lille and he would now come with a big fee after impressing in Italy.

A couple of talented 22-year-olds have also been catching Spurs' eye, as well as most clubs across Europe. Real Sociedad's Swedish striker Alexander Isak and Uruguay international Darwin Nunez, who has netted 34 goals in 41 matches for Benfica this campaign, are both players of interest, while Bayer Leverkusen's 26-year-old Czech Republic striker Patrick Schick has also been watched as he has plundered 24 goals in 31 matches this season.

Both Conte and Paratici are fans of Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez and Spurs attempted to sign the 24-year-old last summer. However, since then the Argentine has signed a new long-term deal and is expected to be extremely difficult to prise away from the Serie A side this year.
Forget dyabla seems a wrong un. Does he even start for argies? At 28 we are better off with ericksen who is proven in the PL and won’t need time to settle.
PS how many y players do Argentina have they easily be one of the faves for WC. Same as brazil however suspect their coaches still pick the same old players.

Bergiwijn plays best upfront where Son and Kane play, which is why multiple managers have played him out of position and seem to rate him for those performances.
Paratici trying to convince a good ambitious striker to join Spurs as a back up to Kane knowing that he has to wait on the bench for someone to get injured is going to be an impossible mission

Defoe was eighteen when he made his West Ham debut. Scarlett is the same age. Now i am not currently comparing the two, but do we really need to scour Europe for a backup to Kane or do we wait until Dane wants to fuck off through lack of first team opportunities?

Poch, Jose and now Conte recognized his talent, so why not promote him and put the money saved in trying to find and back up to Kane to better use?

Yet were looking to spend another 50m on our second CB from same league in as many summers......

Funny ol' game
Possibly out DOF is being lazy and widening the net? How do teams like soton and Brighton find players? They do t have an expensively paid DOF but seem to find players which then other teams pay big money for?
Of course some of the players patrici is looking at in Italy are quality. However it seems that we only seem to be targeting 2/3 clubs in Italy. Mainly All ex conte / patrici clubs.

I think that tells us everything we need to know. This is a £50-60m signing and I don't want that kind of money to go on a player who doesn't want to join us. I want a player with Romero's passion and commitment and we're not going to get that from a player who is saying "I want to stay with Inter but I'll accept the decision if Inter want to sell me to Spurs".

If the player joins it's because he wants to come here regardless of the fluff that gets posted on social.

Defoe had been on loan for a season at Bournemouth, the season before he broke into the West Ham team. Even then, that WH team finished 15th in the league, nowhere near our standard. I think Dane needs a good loan before he is ready to deputise for Kane regularly.

He was part of the senior squad this season.

7 senior appearances for a 17y/o ain't all bad.

He's under contract until 2026...... He needs game-time; not bench time.

To be fair the OP didn't say he wasn't a good player ... but would he have scored as many goals playing in the prem? We will never know, but my money would be on 'no'.

TBF, he did better in 19/20 than I remember......

......Perhaps Levy also saved 300m by not signing Mbappe too.

"football.london reported last month that Dybala was not being considered as a target this summer,"

Massive load of hot air, none of which utters the word "Levy" beyond the headline. If Conte/Fab didn't want him to begin with the entire thing's is a non-story.

....Still, that Levy eh?

LOL at Inter though....
Dybala: "I want 14.6m per year"
Inter: "OK...... How about 6m"
They too must be run by a "tight bald cunt", innit. :contethumb:
The old lady (vecchia signora) is Juventus. It’s they who messed dybala around.

I bet it’s £17m base followed by a load of easily achievable add ons. No way we let him go for just that.

What makes you say that....?

It's their alleged bid; not our pitch to them.

They make the knock-outs of the CL most seasons..... If they want him, pony up a proper fee.

Dutch international goal-scorer with EPL/European pedigree.

If we went out and bought a player of the exact same profile in today's market we'd be looking at £20-25m depending on age.
