Took me a few seconds to realise you didn’t mean Levy had the baseball bats out.

"Beat reporter" is a curious phrase, but essentially means a reporter whose "beat" or area is to cover a particular club, and who gets fed info directly by the club.

"Beat reporters" often have integrity but are in a tricky spot, because if they put a negative gloss on too many stories or ask too many awkward questions, the club will stop feeding them info.

And then the journalist won't have a "beat" to cover.

Or a job.

If (big if) doing this leads to a statement signing like Hakimi or Martinez then thats great.

Can't see that being a conscious strategy tbh.

If it leads to Bremer coming in as well as Lenglet then all good. If its solely Lenglet instead of our supposed top 3 targets then yes i think its underwhelming. Mind you its in Sport which is possibly lower than the Sun so could well be total bollocks.

Pretty sure the club will be trying to get whoever is highest up Conte's list...... That's all we can ask really.

If one is keen to be underwhelmed, then yes..... Afterall the chronology of reported interest is:

- Torres (last summer: "no CL/no thanks")

< Enter Conte >

- Bastoni (doesn't want to leave)
- Torres (Lo Celso inspired?) / Ndicka / Bremer
- Lenglet (Fans "Meh")
- Gvardiol (Fans: Jizz)

Lenglet would most likely mean one of two things:

We get 2 CBs or we can't get the guy we want and Conte is backing Davies & Lenglet to tide us over until we can; rather than piss away 40m+ on someone he doesn't really want.
Sir Archibald Crooks Sir Archibald Crooks

I'd suggest the attraction of Lenglet is that if we cannot get one of our top candidates we take Lenglet on loan with option to buy and see how he does, if one of our top candidates is available next window we go for top candidate. Meanwhile if Lenglet gets back to form that made Barcelona buy him from Seville ..... we win !

This Gordon talk is annoying. Stinks of time wasting.

They want winks, we want Richarlison…

They pay 10% to Watford at 40M plus so 39.9M + winks. It all seems so straight forward… (I know it’s not but adding in Gordon seems ridiculous)
It's 10% on any profit above 40 mill iirc. So it makes sense for Everton to get as much as they can, even 50 mill will mean an extra 9 mill for them and just 1 mill to Watford.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that Rich's "book value" is 14m.......

3 questions remain:

- How much profit do they need to beat FFP?
- How much would they target for Rich vs how much they'd want for Gordon....?

Nobody know precise number Everton need to beat FFP as the accounts in public view are 11 months old,

But £50m seems a good number to start at.

So if Richarlison sild for £50m (adjust for sell on value due to Watford) with a book value of £14m that's £36m towards that £50m ...... and a smaller sale or two and FFP might be dealt with.

Then buy Winks after 1 July so its in next FFP window ....
