That's normal isn't it? There will have to at least be a significant downpayment, first installment or whatever you want to call it, on whoever we sign so that 100 mill won't go far on 3 or 4 signings.

Most payments are done between 3-5 years. Hypothetically a 50m player might be:

Yr 1 = 20m
Yr 2 = 10m
Yr 3 = 10m
Yr 4 = 10m

....But it's usually thrashed out differently for each deal.

Very few deals are a 1 payment affair (caveat being; in some countries - eg Spain - release clauses insist upon it).

Looking at the Lenglet rumours I'd be happy with him. Ben Davies had a superb second half of the season for us and played well for Wales too which would mean Lenglet could come in and add some competition. He's a good player that but unfortunately it's never really worked at Barca. I'd rather we go for him than like mentioned above spunk £80m approx on a 20 year old with no experience. History always tells us too that record signings never ever do well for us. Loan to buy for Lenglet seems okay to me.
I wouldn't be happy with Lenglet but if we can't get the quality we want, keeping the powder dry for next summer makes sense.

Though tbh, I don't see why we couldn't nab Ndicka for £20m (final year of contract) instead. If he doesn't meet requirements, we can sell him and/or Sanchez next season and go again for Gvardiol.

I still think it would be underwhelming. I thought we were hoping for that overdue Vertonghen replacement. Yes Lenglet may come good but that could be said of anyone. Just seems a bit of a punt but there are circumstances (big money going elsewhere, Bremer coming as well) where i could see the logic of the move.

Maybe situation is as Gold described it - there are 2 top CB who Conte would like, then a 2nd tier some way below (including Bremer).

So 2 choices :
1. Buy on a 3 - 5 year deal a 2nd tier CB, good enough to be a rotation option but not an outright first choice or
2 Decide our current CB's (Davies, Dier, Romero with Sanchez, Rodon and Tanganga as back ups are not too bad, but would like an upgrade on one backup CB by loaning in Lenglet and review during season. Maybe get top choice next TW.

If we signed Gordon I could only see it as a wing back option. He doesn't provide enough goals from out wide and he's shit at linking play.

Very hard worker, very tenacious, quick, can dribble past players and can cross .. so RWB alternative to Spence, perhaps..?

He’s always been a standout player in our games with Everton
Not just against us either, I've seen a fair few Everton games cos of the relegation race, and he's never put in less than 100% workrate. More importantly, he had a real influence on the game, unlike Moura most games.

I’m not so sure. A clause that was a 10% of the total fee but only activated at 40m would have some obvious flaws.

Everton could sell at 39m and pocket 39m.
Everton could sell at 41m and pocket 37m.

That’s just silly and I have a hard time believing educated people would write up a clause like that.

...Also; why would you agree to paying a 10% of anything below the 40m mark, when that's literally the amount they paid Watford to begin with? ...But coincidentaly don't you think?

Yes. It should also penalize for ending a sentence with question mark and an exclamation point. View attachment 113542 In all seriousness, thanks for your posts. Please know that your posts along with the other ITKs are all nuggets of gold as we on the outside try to understand what's going on behind the curtain.

Funny thing is, I work in education but don't have the time to spend 4 hours looking over every single post.

Not that I need to justify, but my posts on the whole are pretty spot on.

Anyway, to keep it on track, we do have an interest in Gordon and have explored the option of bringing him in. I know nothing more than that on the situation.

....However, the most telling function of the 150m is that it means we don't have to sell to buy.

Lucas is a much better attacking option than Gordon, if he was at Everton he would double his output at least.

If we did get Gordon it would be for the HG + potential to be moulded in to a wing back factor. I just don't see it with him as a wide player, he offers threat running at players but little else. Conte wanted Adama for RWB and I'd see this as a similar deal.

When speaking in an exclusive interview with the ECHO back in January, Gordon – reflecting on past links with a transfer to Bayern Munich – spelled out his own thoughts on his Blues future in crystal clear terms, saying: “I’ve never wanted to leave Everton. It’s my home, I’m a Scouser and a home bird as well.

“The thought of leaving home scares me. It probably wasn’t for me and I never really considered it
.”
