If you don't think it's been a good window so far, then I don't know what to say.
It's not been bad. Forster for Gollini free for free for no real benefit other than HG quota. We had that before Gollini.... Peresic is a great player who will do us well for a year or 2. Again, on a free. No bargaining. No negotiating. There's plenty of examples over the years where free transfers or players with buyout clauses get done quickly. Bissouma is the highlight so far but even that isn't mega. £25m+ add ons is not a statement signing financially. It was too good an opportunity not to get done early. And that's where we are. We still have potentially half a dozen players to move on. We still need 2 or 3 more incomings for when they go. A ball hasn't been kicked so we have no idea if any of this has actually proved good.
A lot of people were saying it was a good window in the summer of 2020 when......we go an English backup keeper. A CM. A RWB. A LWB.
We even got a striker in the door. And Bale came back! And most of it wasn't last minute.com either. People were really satisfied with that window at the time. What happened?
The mistake Woolwich made is throwing backing behind Arteta. The investment has been good, a lot of the players they've signed are also pretty smart signings, lots of young, talented, energetic footballers who fit the right mould. Nobody special but the right kind.
But they've shown hilarious support for a BTEC version of Pep, so are managing to piss it all up the wall.
Same mistake United have made. Keeping Ole at the wheel and giving him hundreds of millions to spend on players.
Umm no. This is someone who now finally has money to spend and a manager he trusts will spend it wisely. He's not spending because he's terrified of Conte. He's spending because he knows Conte delivers.
You make it sound like Levy can be bullied. He didn't get Spurs to this point by allowing himself to be bullied.
We've had substantially more champions league football than Woolwich and Leicester and yet they don't seem to act like they have no money?
When Klopp took over Liverpool they were generally behind us but they gave him whatever he wanted.
Pochettino had taken us from 5th/6th to 3rd, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and still barely gave him what he wanted.
He blatently saw Poch work wonders with what he had and figured he could carry it on. (and no, I don't rate Poch as a scout either before you say it)
Levy this time last summer had just made the worst managerial appointment of his 20 year reign and everyone knew it. Everyone where they tried to kid themselves or not, knew it was bad for the club.
He now
knows that if Conte walks he has nowhere to go. He cannot pull any of his shit. We will never get an elite coach again if this goes belly up. They'll all laugh if Levy calls.
