Tottenham would pay 5 million euros for the transfer of Lenglet, which would include his salary. And with a purchase option that the gentlemen, who no longer negotiate those "options that are not fulfilled", want to make very clear.

They have/had Trent and Robertson. We don't. They essentially have a Beckham at right back, we currently have Emerson, Doherty & maybe Spence.

And even Liverpool have recently recognised a need for more guile in the centre.

I'd still argue Richarlison is more of a game changer for Spurs though - with the frequency of games next season (one month shorter than last season due to world cup) rather than Kane or Son playing say 80% of games as they did last season, I see both only playing say 70% with Richarlison playing the remaining 30% of Kane's and same for Son, so he plays 60% of the games.

Leaving Moura as a general purpose sub and covering perhaps 30% of RW position with Kulusevski playing 70%.

So I think Richarlison is a big upgrade for us - and preferably I'd like another forward in (creative type) as we are still very tight in forward positions

Tottenham Hotspur are continuing negotiations with Everton over Richarlison, but have found the Goodison Park club unwilling to conduct a fire sale despite their financial pressures.

Daniel Levy, the Tottenham chairman, met his counterpart, Bill Kenwright, for dinner on Monday evening, with Richarlison being one of the topics under discussion between the long-time friends who have also frequently been adversaries in the transfer market.

A number of different packages have so far been put forward for the 25-year-old, who wants to play Champions League football and has been identified by Antonio Conte, the Tottenham head coach, as someone who can increase competition for places in attack.

Two player-plus-cash deals, one involving Harry Winks and the other Steven Bergwijn, have not brokered a breakthrough in discussions, while Everton are not interested in selling Anthony Gordon along with Richarlison.


The valuation of Richarlison remains the stumbling block, with Everton seeking a significant uplift on the £43 million fee they paid Watford in 2018 for the forward, who has since established himself as Brazil’s No 9.

Levy’s offers have so far priced Richarlison at about £50 million in the hope that the financial landscape at Everton will cause the Merseyside club to buckle, given that they have been hoping to sell a player on or before June 30. That would allow the proceeds of the transfer to be factored into their annual accounts, which would then ease concerns about complying with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

The rules allow for losses of no more than £105 million over three years with a mean taken for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, which were affected by Covid-19.

Everton announced losses of £120.9 million in the last financial year, £139.9 million in 2020, £111.8 million in 2019 and £13.1 million in 2018, but have also submitted figures to the Premier League that estimate the overall cost of the pandemic to be between £170 million and £220 million.

No Premier League club has so far broken profit and sustainability rules and it is unknown what punishment would be meted out should a commission be set up to investigate any breach. The sanctions could range from a warning and/or fine through to a transfer embargo or a points deduction.

That Everton find themselves in a position where they are susceptible to offers for Richarlison highlights how poorly the owner, Farhad Moshiri, has run a club, which is now in takeover talks with a number of consortiums, including one fronted by the former Chelsea and Manchester United chief executive Peter Kenyon.

The uncertainty on a number of fronts is not helpful for Frank Lampard, the Everton manager, who has persuaded James Tarkowski to sign on a free transfer after his contract expired at Burnley, and would have greater scope to bring in further recruits if a player is sold in the next 48 hours. Tarkowski will become an Everton player on July 1 when Lampard’s squad will report for pre-season training.

In the meantime, Everton continue to hold out for far in excess of £50 million for Richarlison, meaning that Levy will have to up his offer considerably in order to land his man.
