If true surely Sarr would eventually count as HG.


William Saliba is another interesting example. The France international, born in Paris, counts as a homegrown player because he has been on Woolwich’s books and listed in their Premier League squad for three seasons before his 21st birthday.

Neither have any chance whatsoever of becoming HG under UEFA rules for european competitions.

And no serious club wanting to compete in european competitions builds a squad which does not fit UEFA rules as its not feasible to run 2 squads.

There may be the odd player who qualifies under PL rules (ie cannot play in europe but qualifies to play PL ) but those players generally are not great therefore rarely play - previous examples include John Bostock and Juan Foyth.
