He didn't. He did a decent job of scoring goals (exceeded his xG) and that's it.

I'd say so for Portugal at numerous points. He's never played for a club side weak enough to need to, but he was definitely capable of it in his final 2 seasons at United & whilst at Madrid. He was also pretty incredible for Juventus for at least one season.

Rashford and Martial were piss poor and their games suffered, Cavani who was their best striker couldn't get a look in and his goals suffered

He also only scored 9 goals until March and hit hat tricks against us and Norwich, it's not as if he was consistent.

And then you can get into the fact that they had a non existent press and teams were playing out of the back against them too easily, wonder why...

They spent a lot of money but useless coaches.

Yeh, that was very much my point.

Portugal was more about mentality and off pitch influence (see Euros final), but it's a fair shout.

There's no escaping the fact that teams are required to supplement him and play his way these days.

You argue as if you were Cristiano Ronaldo himself: you're quick to give him credit if his team is doing well but if his team does badly you'll clear him of any blame.
Buffon said that "Juve lost that DNA of being a team” when Cristiano Ronaldo arrived and there was a "reason" for why Real M. wanted him out and hasn't really missed him.

Nah, there's blame this season, he's just not the reason why they're shit. He's just one of the small parts making up the bigger picture of their failed transfer strategy. He wasn't what they needed but he essentially did the job he could've been expected to do at this point in his career.

Buffon was chatting shit and excusing his Italian teammates who post Ronaldo have been god awful. They lost their 'team DNA' because the signings became increasingly more mediocre and the stalwarts of the team declined.

Madrid got worse initially when Ronaldo left. So did Juventus. We gonna act like Madrid winning one CL years after Ronaldo left the club means they haven't really missed him? They were practically winning it every season when he was at the club.
