Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Came across this and it brought me a bit of a smile. He was 21 here, still playing at Lecce, but he already had a very hot head and strong sense of pride lol. Btw the unfortunate showboater was Vialli playing in the great Sampdoria team of 1990.

Spurs official facebook just posted a video of Conte talking tactics to Owen Hargreaves.
You can't watch it and keep talking about the mythical creative midfielder

You can't keep talking about it with a 2-men midfield, but with a 3-men midfield of course you can, even after watching this video. Not saying that I'm certain it would work better for you of course. If for example you bought an excellent creative midfielder, I think Conte would be tempted to switch to a midfield trio as he had with us at Juve. He only forces his trusted formations when he thinks they can work better and give more certainty to the team, but if he has truly class role-specific players he's willing to mold the team around them (e.g. with Pirlo and our 2011-2014 team.)

He clearly isn't going to change to a 3 man midfield any time soon.

Yep, as I said he would probably only switch to 3 if he somehow found himself working with an excellent creative midfielder, which I don't think is happening. In any case Conte always needs two hardworking, physically strong players in his midfield. But no way he changes things up unless someone really special comes in.

For me, that's too emphatic.

Conte changed systems mid-season at the chavs when his existing tactics were not working as well as he wanted.

If he changes systems, or develops a second system for certain match situations, I believe the most likely is the 3-5-2 he used most recently at Inter. This would not require major defensive changes (still 3 CBs and 2 WBs) but would enable him to play 2 of Kane, Richarlison & Son as central strikers, as per the way he played with Lukaku & Lautaro.

My biggest takeaway from Conte's tactical talk with Hargreaves is that he always adapts his tactics to the strengths of the players in the squad.

Richarlison in particular provides him with an option that did not exist last season, as we did not have a Diego Costa style CF who could physically mix it up with opposing CBs.

The only way he goes 352 is if we lose 2 or 3 forwards and gain at least one excellent creative midfielder.
Otherwise it's predominantly 343 with the forwards dropping in to make the extra man. I don't think the forwards have quite learned that yet.

If Conte wants to use Richarlison through the middle to unsettle opposing CBs, then he has to go with a central 2, even if Kane drops a little deeper into a 10 role.

As a CF, Richarlison has an aggressive physicality that Kane doesn't. Conte values that: Diego Costa, Lukaku etc.

As the season progresses, and players get tired, I could even see Conte occasionally using Richarlison and Son centrally, with Kane ready to join from the bench if we need him.
