We swapped Rodon for Lenglet.

Maybe I am wrong but I thought Lenglet was a LCB cultured passer rather than a powerful CCB type player and our alternative to Bastoni to compete with Davies.

Rodon was more a Dier alternative.

So currently

Emerson, Spence and Doherty for 1 position

Perisic and Sessegnon for 1 position

Romero, Dier, Davies, Sanchez, Lenglet, Tanganga for 3 positions

Hojbjerg, Bissouma, Bentancur, Skipp, Sarr for 2 positions

Kane, Richarlison, Son, Kulusevski, Lucas, Gil for 3 positions

25 man squad (including 3 gk's)

Very balanced i'd say. Think we could probably afford to ship out Doherty without replacement (and at a absolute push maybe Tanganga as well) but the rest is dependent on a replacement coming in so i totally understand Conte's stance of replacing Gil should he leave.

I would not say that we could afford to ship out Doherty.

The cogs on this table are movable.

So if we look at that distribution I could say that -
- Perisic is extra cover for LW if needed-> that would leave LWB light (only Sess) -> and Doherty could cover that one
- Romero and Tanganga both are injury prone, and Dier cannot play 100% of the games, so it might happen that Sanchez has to play CCB -> that might mean shifting Royal to RCB -> then having Doherty as extra option in RWB becomes useful
- If it turns out that Gil is too lightweight, we cannot use Kulu nor Moura, I can actually see Spence being option on RW position, which mean having Doherty leaves us still 2 options to choose for RWB position ; or alternatively we could use Doherty himself as RW due to good crossing ability and passing; so that would leave Royal and Spence as two options on RWB.

So to sum it up - as some players theoretically might be used in other positions as well (LW, RCB, RW) having 5 players for 2 wingback roles is not excessive depth at all!

Because he’s shit?

I hope you don’t think he’s a player who would get in our starting XI because he wouldn’t.

Why you always envious of every signing other clubs make? It’s fucking weird
So, if Scum buy Neto, who I've loved for years and wanted/want here, it would be "weird" that I get pissed off about it (esp. because I think he improves them)??

Football fan gets pissed off another club nabs a player he desires.

So fucking WeIrD, man!

The Romero video was made three weeks ago and they release it today. I feel we are done. This transfer window at the moment is a 5/10 that could turn into 7/10 if Spence and Lenglet have an impact on the season. The fact is we have not addressed our major weakness at Center back and are still going to be relying on Dier and Davies way too much especially since neither has brilliant distribution.

The fact is if I was Conte I would be very unhappy with the club because we have done the bare minimum to back him. We were promised more at the start of the summer with the 150m investment, we did not get what we were promised.

Not buying a CB will come back to haunt us.
Fair enough our preferred targets at LCB weren’t available and we managed to get a relatively decent stop gap in Lenglet, but not making a concentrated effort to upgrade in Diers CCB is an absolutely massive mistake IMO.

I don’t care how solid he’s looked at times under Conte. There is still always a mistake or a lapse in the guy that will cost us goals and points throughout the season.

we'd have to be signing a really good wide attacker to entertain lucas leaving. Lot of prem experience, capable of scoring at least 10 league goals and gets on very well with others in the squad. Don't see it, not for the middling attackers we've been linked with recently

Wow, now you are really moving goalposts A LONG WAY.
Capable of scoring AT LEAST 10 league goals ?!? to cover Moura's position in squad?

Moura have not scored 10 goals not even with THREE SEASONS GOAL TALLY COMBINED.
He is on 9 EPL goals across 3 full seasons for us.

In terms of output you are massively overestimating his contribution.

What considers getting along well, and being an influence in the dressing room + being full professional willing to play out of position - in that sense I agree with you. But this does not have to come in combination with such output as you were saying.

I just meant in terms of numbers - Rodon out and Lenglet in is an upgrade for me.

If Dier is injured I suspect Sanchez will be first choice cover but I'm sure Romero and Lenglet could play there if needed.

+Injury, fatigue, proper rotation, proper competition.

How tf do you sit there and watch spam get their greasy, pikey hands on Paqueta?

Umm... like this?

The fact he was signed for Wet Spam is conclusive proof that no better team wanted him.
Just another pimped up midfielder from Ligue 1. We have had already two flops recently. No thanks for 3rd.

Bullet dodged.

* all that does not mean he could not have like 2-3 months of great output. smth along lines with Payet. but it ain't gonna last.

For me it’s just more cogs that fit, yes they could do it but the balance might be slightly out. In the biggest games ideally you would want to avoid that. It might be that any remaining elite CB’s are just way to expensive, I mean look at Chelsea paying £75m for Fofana.

At some point we are going to have to get an elite CCB to compete/cover Dier. As for Lenglet he looked good in the pre-season so I think he will do well for us at LCB.
