In short, Lenglet's contract seems to for c£200k per wk, and the "renewal" (over which Barca are considering legal action against their former board & the agents involved), runs for another 3-4 years.

I haven't seen details of Cuti Romero's new contract, but I bet it's not £200k per week. So we can't really do business with Lenglet permanently until his contract situation is resolved.

Pretty sure this is all very much up in the air. Not following the story too closely, but following the release of this news there was extreme confidence that Barca had gained an upper hand in trying to force De Jong out the door, but their faith in this contract legality tactic diminished somewhat over the following days and weeks. There's talk that Lenglet's wage is a nice bit above the reported 196kpw.. no confirmation though. And he's contracted until 2026. He'd want to put in an incredible season for it to be worth us taking on that contract.

if barca give him to us for nothing that softens the blow. if he has a good season of which is capable of hes potentially a 30-50m defender.

Lenglet doesn't put his body on the line like good old Benjamin Davies does. For games like City, Liverpool, NLD etc. Davies is better. Otherwise, when we need to control the play, Lenglet is the clear choice.
he got stuck in today. see how he does against the tougher sides, you cant really hide from a physical clash when in a 3, you'll stick out like a sore thumb.

From my seat I was able to watch him closely today, second half in particular. His positional sense off the ball was superb and his vision for a forward pass was very good. Have to say, would have even better if Sessignon had been more alive to some of his passes and attempts to put him through. As mentioned elsewhere , will be interesting to see him in a much more physical game, but as a debut, it was very good.

OK..... So we'd want to see consistency and some defensive 'chops' from him; but on the basis that we do.....

Contract from Jan 2023 > Jun 2026 = 3.5 years
@ 200kpw = £35.4m

So long as we got him for free or cheap; surely we'd be quids in if we took over his contract on those wages considering the price of proven quality CBs these days......?

Have you read through this. On what basis are they arguing the contracts should be declared illegal?

I can't see how Barca have a leg to stand on tbh......

Former employees strike shit deal...... Ummm.... Tough shit; it's still the same 'company/business'.

Quick search Found this:

Does seem like bollocks.

Let’s not get too carried away by his performance against such a poor opponent. He played well but I doubt Conte will elevate him above Davies based on such an easy game. Lenglet always had loads of time on the ball and nothing to do defensively.

If he plays against Marseille or City we will get a better idea of his level.

That's incredibly disrespectful to Fulham. We absolutely walloped them and a 3/4 or even 5 goal score line on the balance of play wouldn't have been a shock. However, they ran us close in the end, ran Woolwich close and were the better side against Liverpool.

They'll cause many a team a problem.

Fulham’s performance on the day was awful and even their own manager has admitted that. They didn’t test us, only Romero’s sloppiness gave them a sniff towards the end. By far Fulham’s worst performance of the season.

It was a nice easy debut for Lenglet, much tougher tests to come.

He looked an absolute class act at Sevilla , went to Barca and had a dodgy spell ( well that happens to a lot of them) but you never lose that ability and playing in a back three is perfect for him . He’s going to be huge for us

Yep. I like Davies but I think Langlet can share that position with him and then play in certain games. I think it’s no surprise the midfield looked better when we had him and Romero in who can play a bit.

It was actually no different to how they played v Brighton in the week (I posted about it then as I went to that game). I said if we didn’t beat them convincingly we’d only have ourselves to blame (or something similar).

Why do players want to STILL sign for such joke employers? Baffles me...
