Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Big Sam is available on a free, but in all seriousness nobody is wanting Conte sacked.
The club has had so many set backs this would put us back even further.
I think the issue is that some are concerned that he might not stick around because of his nature.
I think now seeing how the team are struggling the scale of the job has shown there is quite a way to go.
Changing manager would just set the process back, which we can't afford to allow.
We have a lot of decent but not crap or really good players. Lots of 7/10 players. Then just Kane as world class. So any manager would do well to get us top 4 like conte did last season. Even that took Woolwich blowing it.
I was hoping we would buy more top players this summer rather than more 7/10 type players. But it does give us more squad depth at the very least.

Even that took Woolwich blowing it.
Oooo, don't say this, scott. Some folks round these parts are pretty temperamental. The prefer to focus only on the fact we had a good run and not the fact that Aresenal absolutely choked. But I'm fairly sure that were we not the direct beneficiaries of that choke that's all most on this board would have been crowing about like "Woolwich are a bunch of bottlers blah blah blah".

I’m a huge Conte fan, he has my full support and I still feel very confident of my pre-season prediction that we’ll come 2nd.

Football hasn’t been great this season but nearly every team has ups and downs during the year. At the end of last season I was absolutely fine with how we were playing and obviously the results that were following. It just hasn’t clicked this season yet but it’ll come, I have no doubt.

There are a few things I would like to see though:-

- The persistence with Emerson is baffling. He’s one of the most limited full-backs in an attacking sense I’ve ever seen, and that limitation is compounded as a wing-back.

We don’t see training, so it’s fair to say we don’t know how Doherty and Spence are performing, but both are infinitely better in an attacking sense than Royal, and suit our style much more. Looking forward to seeing how this impacts our team over the next few games whilst he’s suspended.

- A little confused by the alienation of Bissouma. Neither PEH or Bentancur have been bad this season, but I’ve seen enough of Bissouma over the last 2 seasons to know he’s superior to both. It’s not just that he hasn’t been able to muscle his way into the team, it oddly feels like Conte doesn’t fancy him at all.

- We need to keep Son as far away from our build up play as possible. His touch, ability to protect the ball and passing have all been utterly useless. I’d like to see his ball retention rate this season, I’d guess it’s one of the worst in the league.

Whilst it’s never been this bad, Son has always thrived playing high up the pitch on the shoulder. His off-ball running has always been his best attribute. We need him playing higher and to get Kane linking the play more.

- I have absolutely no issue with 3 at the back, I don’t think it means you play shit footy or have to be negative. We don’t have a CB pair good enough for a 2 IMO.

That being said, he needs to consider 352 particularly in tough away games. It again gets Son playing high and should add a little more control and resilience in CM.

Our wing-backs also have to be wing-backs. Too often they’ve felt like conventional full-backs in a 5 this season.

- Heavily related to the Son comment, Kane appears to be playing noticeably higher this season and less involved in our build up play. I wonder if he’s requested that?

This brings it own issue; both Son and Richarlison aren’t “creative types” or particularly effective in attacking build up play from wide positions. Kulu out and Kane trying to play on the shoulder is compounding our ball playing ability.

All that being said I meant my comment at the start, I see us getting circa 85 points this season and that being good enough for 2nd.

This is far from the perfect side and I think Conte is going to get the most out of them. 👍
Love your optimism but I’d take 4th now.

Ha. They definitely blew it & we took advantage of it. But really we shouldn’t have had the opportunity.
I think the pleasure we all got from us pipping Woolwich covered up a lot of that seasons flaws. I said Whoever gets 4th it will b by default last season, as it was a really poor race for 4th. We all took turns blowing it!

I answered your question before you asked it. I already said Richie and Kulu should have started when Son was out of form.
Kulu is playing on the right side, Son on the left. Richarlison is the only player who can replace either, but he hasn’t shown he is a better option than them.
Why would Conte change his system? Because our attack is shit. We have no creativity from midfield and only one wingback can create chance.
Oh, so it’s a slight chance you reckon it’s a personnel problem then...
A top manager changes to fit his players best style. He doesn’t try making every player play his style when they clearly can’t.
No, they don’t. Tell me how Guardiola or Klop have changed to fit his players’ best style. I’ll wait.

And this was exactly the narrative of most on this board until the day we actually did it. Then it became how awesome we were to overtake them...reality cast aside for self-serving narrative.

Tell me a time Klopp or Pep have had to change? I’ll wait.

Definitely agree with this, the players purchased are ok but nothing special just functional.
As for fourth the gunners should of nailed it last season, instead we benefited from it but they will get it this time around for sure.

GOALS - 3rd
SHOTS ON TARGET - 4th
SHOT CONVERSION RATE - 1st
ACCURATE CROSSES - 3rd
BIG CHANCES CREATED - 3rd
BIG CHANCES MISSED - 2nd

So, we are scoring goals. We are crossing well, and we are creating chances - but we are missing a lot of these.

ACCURATE LONG BALLS - 17th
POSSESION WON IN FINAL 3rd - 17th

We are crap at long balls - which goes against our idea that we can score on the break; and we don't win the ball further up the field.

Its plain to see why Conte hasn't changed it. We are doing everything right except our finishing. If we keep playing the system we are playing; AND our front 3 start converting more of the big chances; we will be scoring the most goals in the league.

So, do you back Kane and Son to improve on their current form?

This is not working, "Antonio Conte says Tottenham Hotspur need “more transfer markets” if they are to compete at the highest level in the Premier League and Champions League."

How many transfer windows?
We are making slow progress being generous while our rivals are making strides. We need to catch them at least to be able to compete, WTF, it will never happen with this setup and hierarchy. Hopeless.

He is not saying how long will it take because he doesn't know and am sure he will give up sooner or later.

Let's be honest, we need at least 5 players to compete in the PL today. That's £250m or so of decent players. We are better of buying 2 £50m player every window rather than cheap and cheerful addition to warm the bench and hoping to come good one day.
We bought richo for £60M who looks pretty underwhelming i
IMO in terms of vfm. We could have got Jesus for far less. He works and presses just as good if not better and has been coached by pep for 5 years so has a winning mentality. It’s not just splashing the cash. We need to make sure the players we buy are actually worth the money and are good.

I agree. Earlier this season we played a back three of the much maligned Sanchez Dier Davies. Imagine that under Nuno, Mourinho, Poch. We’d have been scared shitless of conceding every time we were attacked yet Conte has made it work. With better players like Romero in the side it is elevated quite a lot.

I said this in the summer. I wouldn’t be surprised if we are holding some cash back for January because we don’t know what we will look like the other side of the World Cup. I hope I am right as we saw what brining in the Juve lads did for us. A couple of similar signings in the winter window could well do the same.

Apparently Jesus didnt want to play second fiddle here, would've loved to have him. Certain people on here made fun of them for getting Jesus, don't think they're laughing now.

Inflation, basically driven by the doped oil clubs and high-revenue spenders like United, over the last decade is ridiculous.
I see your point BUT City have never bought a £50m or £60m player except Grealish who has been ineffective so don't count him, it's their manager who picks who to buy.

The club is buying wrong players, trying to be clever in buying young, cheap and loaning but it's not working.
The only way out is for Levy to give a blank cheque for £100m a window and let Conte pick the players. Otherwise, as for the last 10 years, the next 10 years will be the same fighting for 4th place... And no trophy.

The income of PL has gone up so much, takes care of the inflation.

Fourth season since CL final...fourth season of short termism...fourth season of absolute shit football...fourth season of chasing Harry Kane's personal goals at the expense of longer term club stability and thus fourth season of Harry Kane being bigger than the club (in fact, you even reference it by saying Kane and Sonny are getting old = shorttermism). What are your objectives? You wanna win something or just get top 4/5? And when/if Conte and Dad's Army ages out then what? Oh right, that's too much thinking having to think ahead, right? Just stay focused on Harry Kane and everything will be ok.

Winning. A. Trophy. Is. Chasing. Harry. Kane. Personal. Goal ?!?!?
I have heard A LOT of stupid things, but have not heard something so stupid for long time.

Winning trophies is WHAT ALL OF IT is about.

What the fuck "ages out" is supposed to mean - look at the actual situation we have. Skippy freshly 22; Sess 22; Kulusevski 22, Romero 24, Bentancur, Richalidson 25, Bissouma and Sanchez 26. All of them are expected to get significant playing time already now. Plus there are prospects like Sarr (freshly 20), Gil (21), Spence (22) and our loanees Udogie (19), Scarlett (18), Parrott (20).

You sound like an utter coward. Like it would not be possible to go after titles and think about the future at the same time. Yet all big clubs have to deal with it. But you seem happy enough to jog about and talk about some mystical "future project". When will this future be then? You can always chicken out and say that "oh, no, we don't go after titles, we go after FUTURE", but what the fuck does that mean?

Jesus is a massive cunt with a permanent crybaby face. Richarlison works his ass off every time he’s on. Jesus also doesn’t want to be a bench option, so no, he was not going to go to the team with Kane and son.

If you like Jesus so much, there’s a club you can support not far away.

Thank you mate, you have collected almost all of the main issues that we as a squad are facing.

Son and Richie are not creators, but finishers - often try to pass ball on with 1st touch without controlling it, they play risky and lose possession too often (basically would be OK to play like this if success rate would be higher, but it is not). So one should play at the time, not both.
Not enough output from our fullbacks
- mainly issue is on the RWB ofc, Perisic has been more quiet in last games, but he has created many chances and his crossing is really top notch. Someone more capable attacking player has to take RWB place.
Now this one you did not brought out so clearly but - to top off our issues, we have to admit that our CM duo is also too slow and conservative on the ball I mean PEH and Bentancur are reliable workhorses in the middle. But they lack some dynamism and ability to change the pace. They do not turn with the ball or run/dribble past the opposition midfield. Their situation is hindered by often being outnumbered as well. So either we have to start with 3 CMs or get in a CM who can do those things bit better.

So if you put it all together - that wingers are not building attack, one fullback position cannot support the attack and CM duo is also too slow on the ball, then you get exactly what we have seen in the last 6 or so games - too predictable play that is easy to defend against, also as we lose the ball often, our defense is under pressure as well.

I have no issues with Conte's tactics when it works. But in order for it to work, there has to be a change. And there are 3 options for that; depending on the game and opponent we have to use all of them at some point -
A) Change of system - drop Son/Richie, and bring on Bissouma/Skipp. Go with 3-5-2
B) Change of personell - use Doherty/Spence as RWB and Kulusevski as one of the front 3.
C) Combination of both - use 3 man CM (Bissouma/Skipp as additional player OR Kulusevski as more attacking player in CM) together with more attacking minded RWB

Neither are massive changes, more of little adjustments. But very needed ones.
