Match Another pissing game we won’t turn up to, have to suffer Emerson again and hope Kane or Deki save us - AKA Leeds at home, 3pm, 12th November.

Because the bottom and mid table sides are clearly better than they were 5 years ago. The top sides are struggling with PL sides but still dominating Europe. The congested schedule is a factor, too.

I offered evidence and you offered “because you watched it

Nope. The top teams are simply worse than they have been bar City really who are the outlier.

The Prem is absolutely woeful as a league right now and has been on the downward trajectory for years now in terms of overall quality.

Every PL side but Liverpool topped their CL group, not a single English side didn’t qualify from their group, and it’s a similar story the last few years.

If the Prem is ‘absolutely woeful’ then it’s certainly not relative to the rest of club football.

First game I will not be watching in 3 years + as I will be on a plane after Ryanair switched my flight.
Notice I didn't say I will "miss" watching.
Harry hat trick.
4-2.

Both Portuguese sides topped their Champions League groups too. What's your point here? That the Portuguese league is now one of the top leagues?

Can you explain why the PL is more dominant in Europe than 5 years ago? The ones that play in Europe are the top teams.

So the PL got worse and every other league also got even worse?

Is it because the top teams have lower point totals? Because 1) they don’t. And 2) that would mean the rest of the teams are picking up points… aka they’ve improved.

This is actual supporting evidence. Not just an eye test.

No because that’s not part of a consistent recent theme of all qualifying Portuguese sides doing very well at numerous levels in Europe.

The Prem picks up more coefficient points than any other league recently. Comfortably. I think the standard of club football overall in Europe has dipped but wouldn’t call it Prem specific.

Amazing how quickly you can go from "I love how the games are coming thick and fast" to "fuck sake, we're playing again tomorrow".

I'll be pleasantly surprised to get 3 pts from this.

I just caught myself looking on the exchange thinking about buying tickets. Fortunately I have to take daughter #2 to her dance class between 12 and 1 so can't possibly make the game.

England teams have always done well in Europe over the last 15 years. But it's a cup competition. Maybe English clubs are fitter over the course of a season? Who knows.

The fact our side got to a final tells you all you need to know about the sort of luck you need to make it there.

But I certainly wouldn't use a cup competion as some sort of barometer as to what makes a domestic league quality. La Ligas league quality has mostly been woeful for years, yet they seemed to be in most European Cup finals every single year.

Awesome. English teams are good in Europe.

Domestic league is still wank to watch in terms of quality and has been for years.
Well quality is your opinion then. I think what you are saying is entertainment. Which is different than quality.

If you are saying the EPL is not as fun to watch then I agree. But the level of the teams is the highest it’s ever been.

But they haven’t. La Liga was destroying everyone 7-8 years ago. England was 3rd and very close to losing their 4th CL spot to Italy or Germany. This was because the EPL was not as strong as now.

Actually, it entertains me more than most leagues. Low quality doesn't have to mean less entertaining.

We all watch football. If the Prem is the best, then it says alot about the general standard of modern day football.

I think the general standard is more to the point. Feels like there is less top players. Far less entertainers. National teams feel like they’re a lot less stacked other than maybe one or two, and none of the club teams across Europe seem as strong as they were 10 years ago or so.

Maybe just nostalgia. Game is a lot more fitness/athleticism focused now and it’s left less scope for individual genius.
