Transfers World cup 2022 scouting

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It's pure short-sightedness in desperation for trophies that's stopped us developing youngsters for the future.

As evident by hiring Mourinho and Conte. Two managers who have a track record of winning things with experienced footballers in their very own systems.

I wouldnt even be shocked if Udogie got no game time next season despite us splashing 20m on him. At least we done the right thing and sent him back out on loan though instead of ruining his development here.

See, this is the thing... There's more than one way to skin a cat.....

Would have happily seen Spence, Gil & Sarr all given 1 year loans again this season.

Clubs are strapped for cash and 'begging' for players atm; just commit to a development plan.

.........Spence not being at Forest right now is such a glaring fuck up. He'd be starting every week.

See, above people seemed to wanna run with a false idea that I think the club is beyond reproach. It isn't. I just dont't think the opportunity to give these lads sustained runs to 'learn' on the job is realistic when you've got fans and a board baying for progress in the EPL & CL.

I would offer him to forest in jan as a loan for the rest of the season If we have no intention of playing him. see how he can really perform

I hope the times have gone when Spurs buy players based on tournament performances...
No issue with it if it's confirming opinions already held on a player. If the club have been looking at somebody like Hincapie or Zeno Debast.. and continue to like the look of them during the world cup, then that's hardly an issue.

As long as they've done a thorough scouting of the concerned player from before I agree but that was not my point.
My point was more like the case, say, Khumalo (as recent as 2010). By then I thought they'd learned from the case of Mabizela, who impressed Tottenham in their friendly vs Orlando Pirates back in 2003...

No-one buys purely on WC when you have analytics, a scouting network around the world, etc. But it is useful in seeing mentality and players who can cope with pressure and step up to big occasions.
Yes, some clubs do that (particularly in the past).
There are plenty of players who "step up" during the Euros or a WC ...and then "step down" afterward. Some players are league players and others are tournament players; while there are some who are both. F.ex., Messi, Cristian Ronaldo and Henry generally failed to live up to their league performances at tournaments.

It’s more complicated than “league” and “tournament” players. Is it Messi’s fault that at various WCs he’s had Maradona managing one tournament, or no decent defenders in another, etc, etc? Players need to play in a well-balanced side, in their correct role to shine. Some are so good they can shine anywhere, but they are rare as hell.

This is Messi's 5th World Cup, and Maradona's only been his coach in one of them... Cristiano Ronaldo and Henry also failed to impress in the WC (and Euros) too...
Some player needs to have their team-mater catering to their every need for optimal function, which is harder to do in the national teams than in their clubs
