Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Not sure of your point? The football at Inter was still shit. granted, not as shit as what we serve up but there was a greater delta for his Inter players relative to the rest of Serie A than for us relative to the rest of the PL.
Shit? No.

It’s not my ideal style of play but to call it shit is wrong. It can be very effective with the right players and players with quality in the right positions.

What your initial post was insinuating was that it doesn’t matter if you have Emerson Dier and Davies or Hakimi Skriniar and Bastoni, the results would stay the same with Conte in charge.
Which of course is utter horse shit.

Spence Romero Lenglet davies
Bissouma hojbjerg bentancur
Kulusevski Kane perisic

That team just looks so much more balanced.
The reality of that team is it has one good defender. Davies is finished as a left back. Spence is a rookie who Conte doesn't rate. Lenglet is average and would be even worse in a back 4.

The problem is our defenders are mostly shit and they have hung around for years. Replace them and see what Conte can do. If he fails, the defenders needed replacing either way.

Honestly it's nearly 2023 and we are talking about a possible starting XI with Ben fucking Davies at left back.

We don’t exactly have great full backs either though. Emerson and Davies would be our best bet’s and they’re just a milifraction better full backs than wing backs which doesn’t say much…

And we don’t have the midfielders for a 4/3/3. We’ve no out and out number 6/DM and no no.8s that are comfortable/good enough on the ball. Bissouma is the only midfielder we have that would fit a 4/3/3 and his true quality is very much up for debate after the first half of the season he’s had.

The squad is just simply shit. It really is.
I think we have a midfield 3. As you say, Bissouma to sit deep and the PEH and Betancur to progress/defend as needed. In fact, add in Skipp as cover and I think it's the one area where we do have reasonably good players to call on.

I'm not accepting that Bissouma is shit. Not having it. We watched him play at Brighton. He's good. Needs confidence and time.

For the money he is getting I expected we would get someone with a few strings to his bow as he knew the squad we had and the standard we would most likely buy .What are we doing on the training ground as there appears to no improvement with most of our guys the same individual mistakes game in game out costing us points .

Conte has a clear style of play like Pep. It’s his system, his way and his system is built on ball playing CB’s and aggressive wing backs. We have an average RWB in Doherty and a mess at CB. We don’t have the players to play Conte’s system, Conte has not been at a place where he needs to adapt much before. So this is entirely new territory for him.

Either we give him the players or we find another manager better suited to more average players.

For effective counter attacking, you need a few things:

1) Really good defence
2) WBs that are drilled to pass and immediately move on to receive the ball again
3) Midfielders that actively *want* to receive the ball under pressure as it means they have drawn the opposition in and created space
4) Clinical finishers

Not sure how many of the above we have.

We seem to get endlessly surprised that we start playing well in the second half, but that's because we're losing and the opposition drop deep. Our players cannot handle any sort of press, and haven't been able to do so for years.

But I'm not disagreeing with your overall point. I find a manager that only has one system of play quite frustrating. Especially when it doesn't play to our strengths.

True what you say just that Conte and Pep went to clubs where they had a budget to get the best players where we were not likely to give Conte that standard so kind of hoped he would work around that a bit more .

We disagree.

Well, not really. I'm entitled to my opinion and in that opinion reactive, paint-by-numbers football is shit. In fact, we can utilize the standard set out by our chairman in his DNA message as well. And using that I will say anything below that threshold is shit.
It can be very effective with the right players and players with quality in the right positions.
And I can win formula 1 with the best car while everyone else is driving minis. Doesn't really speak to my intrinsic value as a driver even if it's effective.

To be clear, Skriniar and Bastoni are donkeys and that has nothing to do with Conte. Hakimi can't defend and much of his advantage in other leagues will be lessened with the pace and parity of the PL and his defensive deficiencies exploited therein.

That said, my post had no insinuations with regards "Emerson Dier and Davies".

Conte is a fraud and his football is shit. No better or different than Jose. The sooner he fucks off the better.

What about 3331, would this work.
Romero-Dier (for now)-Lenglet
Porro/Spence - Bentancour-Perisic
Kulusevski-Kane-Gil/Son/New?
Richarlison

Or would we just lose midfield and be more vulnerable?

The problem is he's got a contract that expires at the end of the season. I don't think it makes sense to commit 200m to a defensive style coach to then have him walk and have an attacking minded coach come in that wants to play a back 4. Unless conte and levy commit to each other it I can't see us making the required signings needed in January for a conte system.

Again we have an opinion to extend another year if WE want

Nail on head. Therin lies the problem. Somehow they both have to compromise, so we need players with a bit of experience but who arent too old and are adaptable to different systems. Porro for example doesnt look a full back at all so under a 433 manager its a wasted signing. I just dont see how at this stage we can sign a purely 'Conte' player because in 5 months time we might be trying to shift them under someone else.

Hard to compare situations though.

Ole was a rookie manager totally out of his depth but he was given signings he wanted and there was serious investment in his team.

Conte is a world class manager who’s won everywhere he’s been but is being let down by the same turd players that have left countless previous managers down.

But we seem to buy more

Ndombelly
Lo Celso etc

And this is presumably the exact reason why there is hesitation with certain members of the board.

But it’s why some of us get so irritated with ENIC. It’s not really the funding - rather the total incoherence when it comes to the football we want to play and the manager to make that happen.

And say Conte goes. Who will we get? Poch again? Which players are going to provide the demon press his style requires? Kane moving at a gentle canter? Son? Which marauding midfielders do we have?
