Transfers January 2023 Transfer Thread. The Big One

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

GK
RB
2 New CBs
New LB (probably 2)
CM
Left Wing

These are all the starting positions we need to buy for right now.

We won't sign a winger until summer. We won't sign a CM until summer either.

Only positions we can realistically go for now is a new CB and a new RB. They won't drop Lloris until the end of the season

The saddest thing about all of this is something can be done about all of this right now in the window but we will not do it. We're just doomed for this standoff with Levy and Conte until June

Interesting player but not sure if he is exactly what is needed.

Played two seasons at Bournemouth, scored 15 goals. Moved to Villareal in 2021 and scored 6 goals in their champions league campaign that year alone.

Plays as either a 9 or out on the left. 22 goals in 51 games for Villareal. 25 years old.
2 in his last 3 games but the new coach doesn't like him.

I’d rather us sign no one at this point.

Until there is a new manager and a long term plan in place for a post-son/Hugo/dier spurs, we will just more likely buy someone that won’t fit into that plan. And we’ll be stuck with someone that’s not a perfect fit and hamstringing the budget.

Some may say “it’s not my money” which is true, but we know by now this club runs on a budget.

Nothing really matters at this point until a decision is made on Enic and Conte.

The entire point of Paratici being here is that the team will be fluid no matter who the manager is.

Sarr
Gil
Undogie
Spence
Bossouma
These players weren’t bought specifically for Conte.

Lenglet loan
Perisic 2 year deal.

Those are the kind of deals for Conte.

2 Paratici buys for Wingbacks. Get used to the 3 at the back system. It’s here no matter who the manager is going forward.

3 at the back doesn’t mean we can’t play good football, or even can’t press.

Udogie, Spence and Perisic were most definitely signed with wing backs in mind though. Just like our links with Porro and Dumfries. Which highlights they were signed with Conte and his system in mind.

I think Bissouma could succeed in a Conte midfield but just hasn't been up to scratch as of yet.

Gil and Sarr were both signed before Conte come here.

That’s fair re: Porro but we need a CB amd Keep regardless of system / manager

This is exactly right. The club needs a clear plan and direction before any more signings are made. The way we've hoped from manager to manager, and the types of managers they are, indicates there is no plan at all and its a case of getting whoever is available, and the biggest name instead of who fits best.

There is a pattern with our signings now...... The impact of a DOH is obvious.

Yeah completely fair opinion.

I actually think that our transfers have improved since Paratici has come in. The only one that has been questionable is Emerson, I think the rest have been an improvement on recent years.

It is frustrating that it takes 2 or three windows to get to this point but that's the way it is under this ownership. It's not gonna change.

We do haggle over fees but in recent years the higher money we've played for players those players have never worked out so to a certain extent Levy gets proved right.

Our scouting system has been the issue over the years.
TBF, Emerson's transfer value now is likely ≥ the €25 Million we paid Barça.

Yep. Its pointless and names like Porro, Dumfries, Kessie, Trossard really aren't going to help much. I'd maybe go and buy 2 or 3 good youngsters and loan them straight back like Hincapie and Gusto to arrive in the summer but that would be it. The rot is so deep and there is so much uncertainty its futile adding a couple of mid 20's squad players.

I do agree there is progress. I was mainly talking about wingbacks or a center back that is fit for 3 on the back but not flexible enough for 4 in the back.

We absolutely have to take the next manager that is best in the long-term… we cannot just shoehorn in an average manager just because he plays 3 in the back… it will just be mediocrity then.

One managers WB is another manager's attacking FB.....

TBC - Subject to manager.

Is Porro playing WB atm?
Was Spence at NF/Boro?
Udogie?

Emerson was a bad scouting job (contrary to his track record in La Liga), but I don't expect us to be actively gunning for the likes of him or WanBisaka regardless of 3 or 4 at the back.

Absolutely.

I get this point because in theory it makes perfect sense, but we said a lot of the same things after Poch left, then again during Mourinho's time, then we weren't going to do anything significant with Mason's time and finding a replacement, and then after Nuno left.

Now? We're doing it AGAIN. It's been years now and this is ultimately where my frustration is coming from. When you have no real vision for what you want to be, it's an almost endless spinning of wheels. Structure should always follow strategy, but we do the opposite more often than not.

There are no 'world class' WBs available, b/c there aren't many 'world class' clubs utilizing a formation with WBs, besides Spurs and PSG (this season, under Galtier).

It's just not a position many players actually play.
