"Punt" as in a stab at getting them; not the other sense of the word.

25m doesn't seem beyond what you'd pay for a european prospect tbh and these lads are EPL-'baptised' and HG. (for ref: Gil cost us that much.... Pepe cost 70m.)

Rightfully; these lads (and Bowen) opted for game-time > glamour for their first EPL move. More power to them. (We were suggested to have shown interest in both Eze & Bowen,)
It's possible, but I remember us being strongly linked in advance of their moves, but hearing nothing about us actually trying for them and being beaten out.

It's just as much speculation to say they chose against coming to us in order to play football, as it is to say we dropped the ball by not trying. Ultimately we likely will never know whether we tried but were turned down or not, but I find it difficult to believe that 3/3 would have turned us down had we actually gone for it, and I find it annoying that we aren't more active in getting these players in these days, as successfully bringing in the best young talent from the lower leagues is what started our upturn in fortunes over the last decade or so.

Granted, as we're at a higher level now we can't just rely on that approach, but I feel like we have been too quick to abandon it and chase flashier signings, like Emerson. Signing Spence could have been the beginnings of a return to it, but the way that's working out at present doesn't bode well.

No idea, and don’t care. How many CL sides have a midfield that includes a Scandinavian Binman, one good centre back and an array of shite right backs?

Highest ticket prices in the PL so I don’t see what we have in common with most other clubs.

Answer is every single other club in the top 6. Most of them repeatedly.

Last I checked we were in the top 6?

Yeh, that's not what I intended to imply, but be it us, or other top 6 clubs, it's safe to say that CP wasn't the biggest club to show an interest.... I just think they made a sensible choice..... Poignantly, given the club involved; they learned from Zaha'a United mistake.

Seriously... Fuck off.

When pushed to accept rational analysis; you conceded that PEH is a decent enough option so FFS drop the over-zealous cuntery.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't recall much jealousy over Zhaka, Fred and the like.

against Woolwich we did: 17 total shots (them 14), 7 shots on target (them 5), 13 shots inside the box (them 8), 4 GK saves (them 7)

you're welcome

Yes, we had more shots than a team who were 2-0 up within 37 minutes. Well done us. Up until that point we'd had far less shots, less possession, and far less remotely dangerous opportunities. We'd been completely outplayed.

At 2-0 up we chased the game a bit, but still managed less xG overall in the game. Woolwich were relatively comfortable playing on the backfoot as they knew they had the cushion so didn't have to commit, thus didn't have many shots.

You're welcome.

it's false. son had the chance to score 3 minutes after their first goal

The assurances you are looking for do not exist in football.

And certainly not in the price range we are looking at.
They don’t exist in any price range. And that’s part of the point - looking for short term salvation in the transfer market is not rational. I get the emotional aspect - it allows you to dream.

You increase the chances of success by taking a longer term view to recruitment. Fofana has been a failure over 6 months for Chelsea. But in a year or two it could look like shrewd business. Same for Cucurella.

Uh .. yes. Our only chance of the first half. One of the only times we even went forward.

Woolwich had scored twice, hit the bar & forced Hugo in to numerous saves (with lots of other good situations) before we finally decided to turn up.

Playing when 2-0 down and having shots isn't being the better team, its just deciding to play when the game is already decided.

How much was Paqueta? Close to 60m

This comparison game (in this case) is shit but it can be played both ways…

How many clubs have spent 70m on a player?

City
Liverpool
Chelsea
Woolwich
UTD
Newcastle (now)

Which clubs have won and/or would most people agree Look closest to winning major honours?

But it’s a shit way of evaluating things if you care about context.

Why aren’t Spurs successful when it comes to winning major honours? Who should be held accountable?
