Transfers January 2023 Transfer Thread. The Big One

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

In a normal season yes, but something seems to be wrong behind the scenes. Conte not committing and also Kane running down his contract is causing some instability. Throw in the deterioration in Son's form, rubbish wing backs, lethargic first half performances, a team that is reactive and not proactive in the way it plays, I think the season might be a write off. It's not a happy ship that's for sure.
Yeah this is more realistic. Something looks broken, players not happy/fit i dont know. Last season we caught up but we were inconsistant after Conte came, not constantly dreadful, we were strong at the back and Son was scoring loads.

Its not impossible with a 6pt gap but if it gets any bigger than that we can forget it....next up Fulham (a) and City.

Levy cannot handle any form of financial risk. Unfortunately, football transfers are just that.

This entire shtick of loans where the obligation to buy kicks in with CL qualification is an attempt to remove any form of risk.

No team is going to agree to that, unless they are desperate to get rid of the player. In this instance, I expect it’s us knowing we won’t qualify, so simply
disguising a loan move as an effort to back the manager.

We are fucking tedious.

Conte does seem mentally affected by the death of his 2 friends. Tragic and completely understandable.

Kane is playing well- and I have faith with Kulu Rich back fit now we’ll have firepower in attack. Even Son could improve when he finally gets some rest.

Replacements for Lloris and Dier who bring stability to the team will be key.

I get what you're shooting at... As I posted in another thread:

???
Spence / Rom / ??? / Udogie
Biss / Sarr / Bent
Kulu / Rich / Gil

......All the right side of 25. All have room to grow. All bought by Fab.

The right manager could kick off something nice with that.
I'd take that lineup all day. The disregard for Richy is bizarre. And people act as if Gil is not good enough, with no future ahead of him.

Surprised people think we won't bring in anybody because we haven't done so yet.. it's not the right way to do things, but it's the way we do things. I expect we'll make a deal or two in the next few weeks.

I'd be shocked if we didn't make at least two signings.

We can only hope they can make the same impact Bentancur and Kulusevski did last season. We need that.

I can't exactly put my finger on it, but this window does feel a lot more gloomy than previous January ones.
It's not just the lack of rumors regarding incoming players, but of the ones that we are linked with only Porro would directly have an impact, and even he comes with questions regarding his defensive work. No links to a CB, or GK for the current window, even when those two positions have cost us greatly over the last few games.

Thats not to say anything about the complete silence regarding outgoings.

The fact that we seemingly did our business early in the summer and are currently in a bit of a crisis but moving through molasses doesn't make it any better.

Amazing this can feel worse than Saha and Nelsen but I agree . Knowing Kane is off in the Summer , Conte as well if not before and Son has aged 10 years in six months is adding to the gloom

Yes, because it was. Unless you actually think Wanyama, Sissoko, Dier etc were the best CM/DM's we could possibly attract at any point and we never had the financial power or pull to possibly find a player in all of world football who could possibly upgrade on those phenomenons.

Southampton signed VVD in 15/16 .. upgrade. Leicester signed Kante in 15/16 .. upgrade. West Ham signed Payet in 15/16, borderline upgrade/absolutely a signing who would've pushed the XI. Go forward a bit and Liverpool signed Mane & Wijnaldum in 16/17 .. upgrades.

You're taking the piss... Surely?

First XI upgrades at the time in question?

- You'd have happily advocated for replacing peak Toby or Jan with the Celtic version of VVD???
- Dembele with some unknown geezer from a team relegated from the French 1st division????
- Payet to replace who? .......Eriksen maybe?
- Newcastle version of Wijnaldum to replace beat-mode Vic?

Even Mane (who had yet to explode!) would have represented a depth signing at the time.

.......And then you decide to water it down further by bringing Dier & Sissoko into the equation (players who weren't even in the nominated best XI above)?

I dunno what I expected, but I at least expected you to be genuine and answer the question at hand.

This is so unbelievably tedious, even for you. I dunno what you actually want, me to name star players just so you can go 'we couldn't afford them/they wouldn't have moved to us!' ... completely pointless exercise.

We could have upgraded the XI. So many players out there were around. Some cheaper ones, some expensive ones. The idea we couldn't afford to do so is shite. I'm not gonna go back to 16/17-20/21 or w/e and cite every player who meets your little criteria.

Is it that worse than last season?

I am pretty sure by this time we were linked with a player who barely got games at Fiorentina. At least, with Porro we are linked with someone relatively decent.

In 11/12 we were playing well and there was a good feel around the club, we were playing amazing football. Fans were angry at Saha and Nelson because it was an opportunity missed (sounds familar).

Now we have a team falling apart Lloris, Son, Dier are all fit for the knackers yard. We have Kane for only 4 more months and 12 or so rubbish players to sell on top, our manager will be gone soon, our DoF is banned and our football has been shite for 4 years now. Somehow we're 5th but it honestly has a feel like we're 15th. I think its our lowest point since Ramos 2 pts from 8 games and bottom of the table 15 years ago but it has more in common with the years 1996 to 2004 where everything just felt broken.
