Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Nothing is ever contes fault. Hes bulletproof. Losing 2 nil at home to Aston villa wasnt contes fault. Buying richarlison wasnt contes fault. Not having a creative midfielder is contes fault. Neglecting the academy is not contes fault.
Check my post history, and you'll see that I literally said "Conte got out-coached by Rodgers".

- Richarlison is a good player.
- Conte doesn't play with a creative midfielder, and even without him, we're the 3rd best scoring team in the league.
- Our academy is utter shit. They get absolutely spanked by everyone. Hopefully Soonsup-Bell proves to be a good signing for them.

People want to make Conte culpable for everything in this forum, just like they did with Poch and Jose.

Same Cancer that worked a pure miracle to get us into the champions league less than a year ago?

Last season he did very good job and he deserves praise for that. He gave a gameplan to players and wih 1 game per week, he managed to deliver the goods.

But nothing of that is left in this season. No plan, no cohesion, no results.
There is no point of singling out this or that period. From his time here until today he has lost as many games as AVB with less games played.

Last season he was good but I'd like to think about present and future. While thinking of future there is no point to only watch to rear-view mirror.
Now he is not even useless, cause at this point he has became harmful for the club. Just like cancer. Cancer has to be removed.

Right now i'd probably just settle for any manager that doesn't play this nonsense 5 at the back system.

I despise any system that has an extra defender on the pitch. If Conte had the balls to play a proper 3 at the back, like the Cruyff model i'd like to see it but his bullshit bastardized version makes me ill.

before conte's arrival tottenham won many EPL, UCL, we were playing great and obtaining wonderful results.
then conte arrives and now we are struggling for a 4th place in EPL and a last 8th qualification in UCL.
sack him

This.

I think the intense style of management has had its day. Players respond much better now to a more arm around the shoulder approach. As you say why we ignore what has worked for us up to a point is baffling. Jol, Redknapp, Poch much more emphasis on good football and getting on with players, they just appear more patient and tolerant as well which obviously helps with Levy. Then you have George Graham, Santini, AVB, Mourinho, Nuno and Conte. Dull football, tetchy personalities, overly intense. So add all that together and i could see Thomas Frank working well here.
I think that in modern sports, a manager needs to be a people person first and foremost. Nagelsmann even said something along those lines, modern managing is 30% tactics, 70% social competence or something like that. You need to know how to speak to each individual player to get the most out of them. Some need a taskmaster, some need a buddy.

Phil Jackson built his legacy as one of the best basketball coaches ever on this. He could marshall ultra winners like Jordan, nutcases like Rodman and "soft guys" like Kerr with equal ease. And get them to work together.

And when a new manager comes in, gets a short term bounce and then we are back in this exact same position less than a year after coming in?

Will they also be a cancer?

Because the pattern is well established now and that is almost certainly what will happen.

At some point the club needs to stick it out with a manager and take responsibility. If you ask me which manager is more endearing and likely to get that patience from fans like yourself, I’d guess it would be a nice guy like Poch with a likeable face and manner.
Does that mean they are a better coach? The actual difference is probably negligible.

It's the players' era but we're still pretending that it's the managers' era.

I wouldn't want to play for a person like Conte either.

Eddie Howe gets it.

He earns 380 thousand euros a week.
For nothing.

FFS he doesn't even give enough shit to make substitutions.

That is stealing.
And how he has treated likes of Spence, Gil and Sarr for example is fucking abusive.
He is sucking lifeblood out of this squad and this team.
Again, I'm not a big fan of his approach, but come on, this is quite a ridiculous overreaction. It's not like he's run a title winning team into the ground is it.

His body language and demeanor is annoying as well. Looks as if he has weight of world on shoulders. Getting 15m salary as well. Let's see where we are in May. Top 4 minimum requirement or a trophy. Less than that OUT!

Early Poch was perfect in this regard.

He had an idea of what type of player that he wanted. And he tried to coach every player so that they would fit that as much as possible.

There was definitely a point were he started believing the hype around himself and started getting more picky regarding players and at least to me it looked like he stopped trying with players much quicker.

But the best example of a "player manager" in football surely has to be Ancelloti? He's done it all over Europe now to great success.

If he achieved either top 4 or FA cup he would still walk away but with his reputation intact. Perfect scenario for him in many ways. He isn't staying here either way. I think we're way beyond that from both sides.

No. He voluntarily walked away from Inter and Juve for different reasons. With Juve, he had a big fight (allegedly) with Agnelli, while at Inter he walked away because he didn't want the team that he built to get dismantled by sales (Lukaku, Hakimi were sold, while others were on the verge). He didn't get shit in either case. Not even his loyalty bonus. He got A LOT from Chelsea though...

If you read the article, you can see that it contradicts itself.

Marotta isn't stupid, and Conte left in okay-ish terms (they understood why he left). Conte didn't take a dime from Inter after his sacking.

"Antonio Conte has left Inter Milan by mutual consent........... Conte has agreed a deal with the club's owners which will see him paid €7m (£6m) for the final year of his contract."
