Match Sheff Utd vs Yid Army FA Cup Wed 1 March 2023

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I haven't checked the figures but my assumption is that Man Utd have't really outspent us in recent years, at least since Conte has been manager we've spent quite a lot.

They have.

When we were winning more trophies in the 80s/90s I suspect that Man Utd had more funds than us then, so it's not all about money.

AFAIK the new stadium is being paid off on the long term and the amounts aren't really effecting the team, we're making much more money than we were in the old stadium.

We weren't winning more than Man U in the 90s.... That's a ridiculous claim.... They won the league FIVE times (let alone a shit load of other cups)!!!

.....Even in the 80's in was only 2 v 3 pots in our favour.

I said when we were winning more trophies in the 80s/90s (meaning more than we've won in the past decade or so) not that we were winning more than Man Utd then.

So what's ridiculous about that claim?

You seem to be measuring us against Man U..... It read like that's what you meant.

If not, then I'm mistaken.

If you wanna understand the difference between the 80s/early 90's and now.... Look at who has hoovered up the vast majority of trophies over the last 30 years...... Man U, Chavs & City...... The gap between the richest and the rest have become vast.

Yes and no.

I'm measuring our trophy winning compared to Man Utd now, and back in the 80s/90s.

We did win trophies then agreed? And Man Utd were still a wealthier club then than we were.

So Man Utd winning the League cup last Sunday, and we got knocked out by Nottingham Forest beforehand isn't because they are more wealthy, because they were wealthy back in the 80's/90's but we still managed to win trophies despite their wealth.

See?

We got knocked out by Forest cos we dialed in a sloppy, lazy performance despite having a significantly more talented team on the pitch.

Like I already said.... The money gap is much bigger these days and trophies in England(+Wales) have been dominated by 3 teams over the last 30 years.

..............Do you have a broader point? You don't think think that is down to wealth and the accumulated stature/appeal/foothold that trickles down from that success?

There will need to be some rotation so I don't particularly agree. Don't be a Conte mark II! By some, I don't mean extensive, but some.

I see no harm in giving Porro / Danjuma / Richarlison some more game time when we can.

I'm not suggesting we play our 'YOOF' players
We buggered about with the line up in the league cup ( no idea why Perisic started up front ) & lost

One or two at most I reckon.

Do you think Man Utd have better players now than we do (taking into account all the pros and cons)?

Since Ten-hag and Conte have been the managers of the two clubs and they have risen to 3rd in the league with a game in hand over us in forth , how much more money have they spent in the last two transfer windows than we have?

We've finished above them many times in the league recently with having 'less wealth'.

I don't think they are spending more now compared to us, than they were relatively so in the 1980s/90s.

I'd argue the only reason Man Utd now are in a better position now than we are is because we fucked up against Nottingham Forrest (Spursy) and have made stupid individual mistakes.

I don't see their team in top form as better than our team in top form, and I would not be overly eager to purchase any of their players.

That league cup semi was one of my favourite away days. Pure limbs in the snow. Was rather tasty too if you know what i mean. Couldn't get the half day to go today unfortunately but very jealous of all who on their way up the m1.

YIDS

Biggest surprise on this line up is Kane starting (he was on bench v Preston), and Richarlison presumably on bench.

Also Tanganga as RCB to rest Romero, alongside Sanchez resting Dier.

Quite a lot of changes overall

We almost went bust in the early 90s.

And it got so bad our managers had to get the tube to work. Not even the funds for a Vauxhall Cavalier company car.
