Friend of mine who lives in Barcelona on Enrique:

' It's funny cos this morning I was at the gym thinking on how good he'd fit at Spurs.
He loved to play beautiful tiki taka football but he also introduced those frantic defense-attack transitions and counterattacks that were more rarely seen at the Camp Nou.

Loved his time at Barça, also he relies a lot on youngsters, some big players mention him as the best manager they had.'

Off the top of my head I remember Enrique beating Costa Rica 7-0, Germany 6-0, Croatia 6-0 over his reign as Spain coach... very dull!
They were fucking dull.

Scores don't mean shit. We have scored loads of goals this season and under Conte in general.

watch the games in the later stages of the tournament, if you can bring yourself to finish them.

That sounds great so maybe Spain would be harsh to judge him on.

He didn't pick Porro and chose ancient cloggers at RB but he could bring Olmo with him.

Sooooo, I see a fair few people in this thread saying along the lines of, we're not winning shit anyway so let's have some entertaining football with someone in charge who we love...

:ossie::ossie::ossie::ossie::ossie::ossie:

In fact, we might even win The Championship title 2024-25 this way. A trophy is a trophy, you know.

At this stage would it not be better to allow people to vote for say their top 3? (I don't know even if this is possible) I've no problem with Poch coming back and reflecting this in the vote but I also would love to see Nagglesman or De Zerbi.

No worries if not.

Dunno.... I find it more compelling to know outright who people want rather than a broad wishy-washy reflection on who they'd be OK with.

Gonna close the poll if we hire anyone before the end of the season too.

.......Want a snapshot of before-the-fact opinion; rather than any hindsight-isms.

I may have mentioned this before but there is no such person as "Enrique"

Iglesias?

See this is the frustrating thing. You’ve got Jack Pitt-Brooke from The Athletic saying that Paratici has drawn up a shortlist of managers, and then Ali G saying this…

I think both statements can exist.

The club would have as good a handle as any regarding Paratici's legal situation in Italy, if there is the slightest doubt that he's banned outside of the UK then they will know this and should be planning accordingly.

But as it stands he's not banned, he's working and therefore this is his job to draw up a shortlist and I would imagine advancing to making tentative approaches with those on the list. The interviews are conducted by him and members of the board.

But, it's highly likely his ban would have reduced/undermind the authority/power he had (unless we hired him with the knowledge that he was likely to get a ban in Italy).

This one from Gold feels more accurate. I'd be amazed if he trusts Paratici with his record on managers which isnt any better than Levy's and the fact his hearing is in the next 3 weeks and he could be gone soon after.

Just seems like a waste of time tasking him with something if he’s gone before we decide on a new manager. Especially if we bring in a new Sporting Director who will have their own ideas

I mean to be fair tournament football is different. Can't really play open football in 1 game knockout stages. But yes he has an eye for youth. He called up Gavi to Spain at 17, Nico Williams, Bryan Gil as well..

Also if we really are considering Enrique, De Zerbi is very, very similar. He should be in the list too, if not ahead. Obviously he just joined Brighton though

This doesn't sound very tiki taka

One of the most renowned and successful managers of his generation, Luis Enrique's incisive and direct football featuring quick transitions from defense to attack, though reliant on the front three of Messi, Suárez and Neymar, was in sharp contrast to the possession-heavy approach of Barcelona managers immediately prior to him. Statistically, Luis Enrique's Barcelona, in his first two years at the club, were better than Guardiola's: Comparatively his team had scored more goals and conceded fewer, had a higher win percentage and won competitions at a similar rate. Guardiola hailed them as the best counter-attacking team in the world.

It would be nice to have a team that wanted to have possession of the ball and press aggressively off it. the idea that you'd be happy to let your opponents have the ball seems insane to me! It would also be nice for our players to feel comfortable on the ball and to trust them, Hojbjerg is just one that makes me sweat on the ball, like he'll lose it any minute, so many of our players' second touch is a tackle.
His Barca side could definitely play a possession based style. He was just more tactically flexible than Pep was at the time. He played tiki taka style possession ball when he had a healthy Xavi and Iniesta to faciltiate it. And rotated to a more direct style when needed.

I think that's the biggest appeal to appointing Luis Enrique Martínez García ( look Bill Madrid Bill Madrid I am learning). He's not 100% wedded to one system or style. He will adapt to what he has to work with.
