Him and Kvaradona both cost a combined £25m for Napoli and we turned down both.

We don't know they would have worked out as quickly or even as well in the prem as they did in Serie A.

Salah and De Bruyne were both flops in their first prem stints.

Timing is what it is and leagues like Serie A actually need to be discovery leagues for players.

Kvara is now set for Real, City, PSG level spenders (and he could easily flop still at that level btw)

Kim Min Jae Spurs probably still have a chance to sign. Would be some singing as well.

Might mean the other CB needs to be homegrown though.

Gil Needs some strength and conditioning work.

Look at his legs here compared to Lamela.

That's got to be some odd trick of the light/angle or something, Lamela's left leg does not look healthy there! Also looks much bigger than his right, unsure if perhaps it is his wanking leg???

Come on, guys... have you never watched how various muscles move in the leg during running?

Lamela has all of his bodyweight in his quadriceps. In fact he is slowing down so the weight is even more strongly in the front side of the thigh AND running sequence is in the ending phase when the part of the muscle closest to the knee is active. So from his perspective this photo is taken in a moment when his leg looks "biggest".

Meanwhile Gil running in the background is barely touching ground. His bodyweight is not on either leg - one has pushed it upwards and relaxing, other leg is preparing to receive the body mass. But both of the legs are more or less in resting phase. Specially quadriceps part, if any work / tention at this moment, then it is in hamstrings.

I can assure you - if you'd see them in same pose / phase of movement, the difference would not be as stark. It would be still there, of course. Lamela has more muscle mass, but it is not like chickenlegs vs bodybuilder like this photo suggests.

Of course, there is no guarantee that success in Seri A for Napoli would translate into success for Spurs or any other EPL club. But both are - in their very first season in a top league - major reasons for why Napoli (for now) is running away with the Seri A title, playing good & entertaining football, and also doing well (so far) in the CL.
Both of them together could have been had for the cost of Djed Spence. And, as has been repeated, Son had first hand knowledge of Kim and for sure have told Spurs about him...

What did Son tell Spurs about him?

Maybe said he's shit?

Or maybe he's told us to sign everyone in the Korean squad at some point. Dont know why we bpught Rodon instead, mind, not even young or homegrown.

Rodon was 23 when we bought him. Homegrown in the EPL (if not Europe). Already an international and already had league experience that was closer to the EPL-level than China is. Beijing were also trying to squeeze us for more than we paid for Joe.

Wrong call, but the logic is there to see.

What are our scouts paid for if they couldn't clearly see the gap in ability and suggest one was much more worth pursuing than the other?

Unless Levy ignores said scouts, which wouldn't surprise me at all.

Yeah, it makes sense if you use simple heuristics to buy players instead of proper scouting. TBH, if you look at transfers since around the time we got Sanchez that seems to be what we're doing.

You're thinking back to the good ol' Hitchin days.

Paratici has hired, fired and revamped since then........

In fairness it's probably difficult accurately gauge ability when it's on display in China, like trying to assess the size of an ant from a close up picture and coming away thinking "shit, that ant is fucking massive, we're all doomed..."

Once he'd gone to Turkey though and was still available for relatively little outlay they should have been able to better judge how capable he was of stepping up.

Tottenham among the Premier League clubs keeping tabs on talented Watford youngster Adrian Blake... with the Hornets keen to keep breakthrough teenager who bases his game on Eden Hazard

  • Adrian Blake made his senior debut for London team at 17 years and 39 days old
  • Talented winger has been with the club for thirteen years since joining aged 9
  • Spurs are tracking Blake as Hornets continue to try and set up new contract deal

Biggest myth ever the huge muscle mass equates to better fitness. Gill will never ever look like that nor should he want to. His frame is utterly wrong for that vanity. Giggs Modric Silva B. Silva Crouch Waddel it's not nessasary.
to be fair modric has some thunder thighs on him. hes all legs.

the way gil dribbles he could defo put some strength into his legs and it would benefit him. he comes off as a different sort of dribbler to bernado, but then is that because bernado actually gets his fouls given as freekicks so they dont steam into him as much? or is he that much more elusive than gil?

Oh yeh, it's played out terribly in that respect and yeh if it's B (above) then that's dumb........ I suspect it's C though; that Conte wasn't keen enough on Gil to reassure him about game-time and thus he requested the loan.

......I don't mind such young players as Spence (*) & Gil on loan if there's a long term plan for them; it's just the dicking about with them that I'm at odds with.

(*I've said it over and over; we should have loaned Spence straight back to Forest when we bought him.... They subsequently went out and bought TWO RBs ffs! ....He could have had a full year as #1 in the EPL under his belt by now!)

But the word at the time was that Spence didn’t want to go out on loan as soon as he signed

Is he overrated though? He's a decent shotstopper, and as you said on pens he's the best in the World.

Raya is obviously better for the future, but people are discrediting Martinez too much.

I like Martinez he’s got that dominant arrogance that I think helps make a top keeper.
Not a popular opinion on here I guess but Pickford would be my top choice with Martinez probably next
