Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I don't think some of this is fair. A club that is "ambitionless" wouldn't have appointed him in the first place, they knew they were putting themselves under a microscope by hiring him. He was given quite a lot of funds, he was given leeway to ship out a lot of players he didn't like, and he was able to hand pick certain signings.

He is one of the highest paid managers in the world and the football we have seen this year is dreadful. He was backed quite a bit and he failed at his job.

Of course it would. Appointing someone as a figurehead is easy. Pay someone at the top quite a bit of money but don't put in the groundwork to actually be successful, it's been our MO since Levy hired Jose.

We show our true ambition with the mediocre players we keep around & the type of players we still target. Yes Conte should be doing better & I'm not a fan of his coaching, but he's absolutely correct to say that he will be ANOTHER in a long line of managers who ultimately fail here. And that's not just bad luck or coincidence.

Sat here still starting Hojbjerg, Forster, Davies & Dier .. footballers who wouldn't look out of place at a team battling relegation .. we get what we deserve.

Reading the full quote, it doesn't sound like he was calling Levy out (in particular) at all unfortunately.

Looks as if he was asking why the managers and the board are always the ones who get the blame when the players basically get a free ride.

Ah, I see we are at Conte v Levy again. Here's an idea - both are at fault.
This. Wanted both out before it became fashionable. We're stale from top to bottom, 23 years is just too long to be involved in anything and ultimately the buck stops with them, the football we've played for 4 seasons is 15 years out of date and 50% of this squad are long past their sell by date. Total bloody purge is needed and the only way to do that is for ENIC to sell the club.

I guess I just disagree with a lot of this. We shifted out a LOT of players that we spent a LOT of money on, at Conte's request.

Ndombele, Lo Celso, Rodon, Winks, Reguilon, Gil, Spence, Doherty, etc. are all not here because Conte didn't want them here. You won't get me saying most or any of those are decent players, but it's just simply not possible to get rid of every single player in the club in 1-2 windows because the manager doesn't fancy them.

We brought in a lot of players specifically for him as well, some of which have been big mistakes.

You can talk about Hojbjerg, Dier, etc. but those seem to be players that Conte LIKES and WANTS to play. They are literally nailed on starters for him.

Again, you can quibble with me on some of the details, but to act like the club didn't do at least a decent job of trying to make it work for Conte is silly.

There's a lot of things not right at the club, the players and owners included. But Conte failed at HIS job, a job he is paid a ton of money to do.

This is a really poor characterization TT. It lacks so very much context. So the manager that has called for a painful rebuild for over 2 seasons is faulted when the shitty players he has can't play? You mean Winksoko wasn't your cup of tea?

Sad thing is that some people rated it as if it were a fair statement. Goldfish round here.
Nope.

Poch turned into a stubborn arsehole and refused to change things that weren't working.

And that's coming from his #1 fanboy, in the beginning.

For this alone. I am going to say. Well done Antonio. Well done. And I would much rather a manager with that passion than the shit house bastards on the board who don’t get what it’s like for the fans.

Finally he’s said it how it is with these players.

Post match and most weeks I feel so much frustration I say things like “he needs to go”. He is this, he is that. But ENIC set the culture.

They set it week one when they sacked George Graham a week or two before a massive semi final. And year on year it’s terrible terrible decisions after terrible decisions. And manager after manager gets blamed while Levy keeps getting rich by destroying what it means to be Spurs. He’s the bastard who is behind every single mistep and mishap for 22 years.

Rips the soul out of the club and keeps on keeping on with employees who are mediocre at best. ENIC Out. Conte. Will be gone. But thank you for speaking out ❤️

The old guard (Lloris, Kane, Son, Dier, Davies, Sanchez) are supposed to be the senior figures in the dressing room but they have never experienced success at club level and they are in the latter stages of their careers. They are simply used to failing.

I think that creates an uninspiring culture and over time the new energy with winning mentality (Romero, Bentancur, Kulu, Porro) slowly gets worn down and start coasting like the others.
Exactly the reason you need to rebuild instead of reloading...the culture gets passed down. All the more reason we should have cut off the head 2 seasons ago.

Conte is right. We have a culture problem at the club. It is one characterised by frailty. By weakness. It's why Kane has yet to show up in a big game. He is the embodiment of our club: lots of good attributes but weak when it matters.

"Why must the manager and the club take the blame?"

"They are used to it here. Don't play for something important."

- Conte, when asked why the players are like this.

AKA culture set at the club is the reason the players are like this. Coupled up with him directly saying "20 years these owners and no trophies" and it's pretty fucking clear he's criticising the ownership as WELL as the players.
