Ex-Spurs Player Eric Dier

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I dont believe in silly ratings either but thats unnecessarily mean.

Unless of course this person is saying 'my rating system says this so i am right'. In that case fuck him!
That's kind of why I said it. I used to reply to that thread, but then he started acting all "ooh, I've got a rating system on TFC, it says what people really feel about players".

Keeps using it to argue that Romero is not much better than Dier, among other things. Him and Airfixx Airfixx have been at it for weeks lol

You were just claiming to be promoting debate? .......Now you consider it "destructive" unless it centers around an intent to distill it down to just an arbitrary averaged number?

Imagine you rate something 8 and I rate it to be a 6.... What you gonna do? Discuss and debate it with actual words or break out a calculator?

.......Maybe you think the truth us to be found by concluding that correct answer is 7?

Not for me.

That's your chance to discuss why it's a 6 rating, not a 7 or 8 and the reasons why.
Debate is good, shutting down debate or devaluation of it is destructive.
It might seem about numbers but that's just the measure. It's why it's the number that's important.

My ratings system is what I need to arrive at a rating. Its not necessarily better than anything else. I thought some people might like to know how I construct the rating. One guy in the USA wanted to participate but didn't because he wasn't confident his ratings were accurate or representative. So I told him how I did it to try and help.

Dier rated just above Romero last season. Via multiple sources .

How those numbers are arrived at is still arbitrary considering people would bring their own numbering system to the table, as well as bias (conscious or otherwise) and even without those things one is STILL left debating moments, culpability, the technicalities of game-play and differing ethos's.

Unless one is using a universal rating system and a uniform mindset about how the game should be assessed and broken down then an average of opinion is arbitrary.

Football will never be science..........

People have been bantering and bickering about these things in pubs for decades and that will continue (even if in this case it is on a forum instead)...... Regardless of whether you and your 'spreadsheety' 'wisdom' deem that process "destructive" or inferior or not.

Yeah, football is one of the sports least amenable to statistical analysis. A computer brute forces Chess in the 90s or something, it's very unlikely football will reach that point in our lifetime... assuming we imagine a muli-agent type system of 11 AI "players".

Man's out here trying to act like he's a statistician.

Just giving a broad representation rather than a gut instinct or a perception.

Football will never be science. ? I think you'll find many are making a science of it way beyond compiling ratings.
